Just thought we should start a September thread

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on UAN, hope it's good news and acceptance's all round

Thanks, do you know if they will do an assessment with short notice at AK, rather than waiting for the interview? Might get an idea from that. Even the latest KL date is too soon and they only do the shoot once a year.

I am going to relax (!) about it now - I am sure it will be fine

By the way, has anyone sent pic to Bruce and Brown and never heard a thing again? Been weeks now and have given up on them really x

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 14:18

Don't know, would be something you'd have to discuss with them, or if you really aren't happy with KL then you'd need to make that decision

Can anyone tell me what to expect at a Boden casting - anyone with any experience of one?
Mummyshoneys, Bruce and Brown take ages to respond. Apparently they reply to letters quicker than emails (so I have heard). I did not hear from them for about five weeks and by that time had found another agency!

mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 16:37

KL is great, just know DD1 would love the acting side.

lyndall - have no idea about Boden casting, but we will be there with DS - our first!!

mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 16:38

That first bit was for MelodyDaisy btw - sorry, I am new to this too!

dreadlocks · 05/09/2008 16:40

Grumpalina, yes speak to the school, you might be surprised. My ds has just gone into yr 9 (Sats year) and the school take a very harsh line on any absences. i had to ask for 5 weeks off for my ds for filming and expected to have to go to a meeting to justify it but the school ageed instantly and wished him well. (He will be tutored)
yummymummyno1 we are with Sw, plenty of work for my ds in the 3 years he has been with them. Very nice people.

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 16:47

I know KL are very, very good, one of the top, it will be difficult for you to decide what is best for you and your DD, not an easy decision to make

I can only give you my own personal experience and why I joined AK, my DC are very interested in the acting side of things. Good luck with whatever you decide

Couldn't agree with Dreadlocks more! I know some agencie's tell you to lie and say have illness or appt, but I do feel that if you show the school you are working with them, then they are far more likely to not get in the way of your children taking part.

Mummyshoneys, good luck to your DS on Weds. It is only our second casting . How long have you been with KL and how old is your DS?

mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 18:57

Hi Lyndall, DS is 5 and we have been with KL for about 2 minutes!!!!! So excited, and amazed, something has come up already. Who is your DC with? x

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 18:59

Good Luck mummyshoneys and Lyndall
Fingers crossed you get a result

hi ladies,

well john lewis went well with ds. Xmas brochure, with a pretend family and 2 8 wk old jack russells, that kept biting ds's ear!!,

He's laid on floor playing computer game with pretand dad, so not facing camera, but hey, i know it's him, lol

for you other ladies, apologies, i can't keep up with names,

Boden will be measuring and some casual shots, some of the kids there will have been plucked from the street so to speak, as they talent scout themselves, 3 of my 5 have done Boden.

My eldset ds, jhas been with kl for 6 yrs and has done 10 commercials, and some tv stuff such as idents etc.

Both my boys have just joined young un's, and they can still remain with kl, as it's a theatre school, so for anyone who wants to properly get into the tv, film stuff, that's an option.

Tough process though. Workshop, dancing, singing, talking about themselves etc.

hth.

Good luck for anyone waiting. I take it, no one on here got Dora.

Melody, any news on Walls?

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 19:19

Look's like you are a busy mum too
He was pencilled for Wall's but doesn't look like it's confirmed

The Disney shoot he did on Tuesday isn't for dvd like I thought, but will be aired during programme's on the Disney Channel in a few week's time, so excited, yet nervous at the same time!! lol

Would recommend like Liahgen said, a theatre school would be a good option and most agencie's will allow work through them so to speak

julie4travel · 05/09/2008 19:51

hi - whoever was asking about sw - we only ever had one straight job in a year which didnt justify the fees we paid out, so we left to a lower fee agent

good luck to all waiting on castings, first week in 2 months without a casting or job between the kids and enjoyed the break!

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 20:02

juli4travel-lol!! I am still hoping to get to next Tuesday/Wednesday so I can say the same, need pay day to arrive first

mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 20:06

thanks liahgen, that is useful info on Boden - really had no idea what to expect.

I didn't know that there was a chance of tv/commercial work with KL, so that is good news for DD1, how old is your eldest ds?.

The theatre school idea is good too, will take a look online later.

Melody Daisy - will you let us know when your ds will be on TV - did he enjoy it? Sounds really exciting!

x

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 20:12

There is a chance of that with all the agencie's, just some specialise more in it than others

As soon as I know I shall let you know DS1 had a GREAT time, he was so comfortable in front of the camera's and you'd never have known he'd never been in that situation before.
Just worked out that having been with AK 22 days, he'd had 7 castings and 2 jobs, hence why I am now nervous of anything coming forward his way before payday, has been quite expensive the past 3 weeks!!

lyndall · 06/09/2008 00:24

liahgen, thanks for answering the query re. Boden castings.
Mummyshoneys, we are with KL too! It's great you have not had to wait for them to call you - best of luck at the casting!

tinkerbellchelle · 06/09/2008 08:12

puffling - how did you LO get on at the UAN consultation yesterday?

christabel · 06/09/2008 09:48

Went to UAN consultation, just basically took DD upstairs did hair and makeup and then did about 15 photos. Must admit thought DD looked lovely and photographer said she is very photogenic but they are seeing hundresds so just have to wait and see. The office is going to be in Newcastle. Good luck to everyone going this weekend.

tinkerbellchelle · 06/09/2008 10:42

Christabel - we've got the horrible waiting game now LOL!

Good Luck to all going over the weekend

puffling · 06/09/2008 10:48

We enjoyed the UAN consultation but have absolutely no idea what they thought of dd. The photographer said her face was very 'expressive' that's all they gave away. They didn't chat to us just did the photos. I;, not sure what to do if UAN say no. We do have an interview with Boss lined up but not sure if it'd be worth following that up if UAN say no. What do people think?
Best of luck to all UAN waitees!!

thenewstead6 · 06/09/2008 15:51

hi all

I've been asked by a friend about agencies near Newcastle Upon Tyne. Sadly they got caught by the Models Direct scam a few years back and both child and mother are only just getting the confidence back to try again

So if anyone knows of a reputable agency that way, please can you let me have the details? Thanks!

Meanwhile here, both DS1 and DS4 have had their portfolio pictures done and I'm very pleased with them. Is there anyway I can share photos here?

3kids1cat · 06/09/2008 16:07

Is anyone else going to either the New Look or the DFS castings next week. I'm still not that confident about travelling in London so I'm feeling a bit nervous.

christabel · 06/09/2008 16:37

Puffling - If your DD doesn't get into UAN Boss are definately worth a shot, my DD been to loads of castings where Boss kids have been there and even did a job last year with someone from Boss.

thenewstead6 - UAN are going to be in Newcastle but not sure when books are open again as they were advertising July and Aug and consultations just been.

Anybody with UA in London if so what sort of jobs do you get

MelodyDaisy · 06/09/2008 16:39

3kids1cat-just make sure you have an A-Z, have a tube ,map at home and you'll soon start to feel more comfortable with it all, unless you're driving?
