Just thought we should start a September thread

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on UAN, hope it's good news and acceptance's all round

HF & D - It's all down to what look the client is looking for in a child at the end of the day and what your child is like and your child would get the work from any of those reputable London agencies really.

I think Kimberley is great, she's the one I have most banter with. She'll ring me up and i'll say "what now?" I have no problem with AK at all, works well for my three

ES, not very approachable woman at all if I am honest and don't know about other agency staff as only have experience of these two.

jojosmaman- I don't work, but may be going to work next year and yes it may be a problem if you get offered alot of castings as need to get them there, also depend's on what your boss is like I suppose!

HellFireandDamnation · 30/09/2008 15:21

HMMMMMMmmm there's another Helen on another forum and I debating the ES! She phoned just now and said didn't find them snotty (or snooty?!) but didn't come away saying that's for me either. Apparently advertising budgets first to go in current climate so work has slowed down which was pretty honest of her.

I think I will like Kimberely and I'm sure that will make a difference with my comfort zones! Just thought that ES would get more work offerred? Mothercare, Pampers John Lewis ELC - the biggies use ES not AK which is te ONLY thing putting me off now.

julie4travel · 30/09/2008 15:29

HellFireandDamnation - i went to a elc casting and the only kids i saw at that casting were ts, bb and eith kl or UA i cant remmeber as that was feb last year. saying that i know mot have done elc jobs before.

i dont think there is too much in between the agents, personally if it was me out of the two i would go with the lowest fee one!

jojoasmaman - i wouldnt be able to work full time with castings etc due to our distance to london etc. i did an office job in winter months which was flexible hours yet didnt enjoy it.

jojosmaman · 30/09/2008 15:33

Thanks for comments, I work part time, three days a week but could at a push swap days around to accomodate if need be but I suppose its not ideal. I guess it depends on how many castings/ jobs you get to say whether it is not workable, i'll have to see how it goes before I decide whether or not to give up work (I wish!!)

christabel · 30/09/2008 16:34

Anyone got UAN contract through yet - I'm still waiting

lemonlady · 30/09/2008 16:39

Most of the London agencies want ypu within 1 hour travel, so no use even applying there.
Havent read all thread so might get some good info of them.
thanks

dreadlocks · 30/09/2008 17:07

Hi,
working can be a problem especially if you get a a call at 5.00pm for a casting the next day. You do have to have a good relationship with your boss!
HFAD -we've been to so many castings with children from all most all agencies, sometimes the agencies have obviously been told to send a certain look - other times it's anyones guess what they are looking for. companies do tend to send out briefs to several agencies at once ie last Friday toys R us definetly call MD at Ak and me at SW.
go with your gut feeling, everyone has such different experiences .And good luck
H

christabel · 30/09/2008 17:19

I got a phone call with a job for tomorrow and its 5.20pm and still no details through. This is what this business is like and sometimes I think why bother.

Serenbach · 30/09/2008 19:00

Christabel I'm still waiting for the contract to come through from UAN.

With regards to castings - how long are you at a casting for generally (or is it like asking how long is a piece of string?)

marymay · 30/09/2008 19:09

Our shortest casting was about two minutes our longest has been about half a hour. But you might be waiting for ages before they are seen or might go straight in.
so yes its how long is a piece of string

HellFireandDamnation · 30/09/2008 19:22

do you get given a time or do you agree it - .. what if they are sleeping!
If there all day is there somewhere to feed babies and kids?

Julie - it's on the ELC website which agencies they use. Don't know how up to date it is!

Everything is better for AK than ES except that ES appea to have more work with the big orgs than AK

MelodyDaisy · 30/09/2008 19:46

Know agent can guarantee you work anyway mad even if you went with ES it doesn't necessarily mean you will get more work

I am sure you will make the right decision soon and then you can sit and relax and wait for a first casting . A casting may not just appear instantly though, many say it's 6-8 weeks.

Onthebeach · 30/09/2008 20:04

Mothercare do use ak as their was a girl from ak at the shoot my ds's did a few months back, my baby ds has also been confirmed for mothercare again next week (from ts). I think they mainly use b&b, but do use other agencies at times too.
I personally think your ds would have as much chance of work with either es or ak, they are both reptuble and used by lots of companies, I have to agree with Julie, think it would be best to go for the one with the lowest fees.

jojos, depends how flexible your job is, most of our jobs we have only been phoned at about 5pm the night before! nightmare!

Most castings seem to be very quick, the waiting time can normally be longer! however we have only been to photographic ones, I don't know if it is any different with tv, commercials.

JeanGrey · 30/09/2008 20:36

Hi,

How soon after you sign with the agencies do you start to receive work? I signed my dd with an agency about 4-5 weeks ago and I've not heard anything since...

MelodyDaisy · 30/09/2008 21:02

Onthebeach- Good Luck and well done

Jeangrey-This was mentioned not that long ago and most people said about 8 weeks, but can happen sooner and could happen later.
DS1 was straight away, my dd was 11 days and ds2 was 7 weeks.

OP posts:
ichef · 30/09/2008 21:04

Melody our casting was near Liverpool St. so definitely not the same, how was ds' casting? Ours was ok dd was slightly moody.

jojosmama I'm planning on going back to work p/t after my maternity leave before ds2 I used to work f/t and had a nanny who could drive it was fantastic help with castings

christabel · 30/09/2008 22:16

Jean Grey - which agency have you signed with - it is hard to tell. My DD with 2 agencies at preent - one joined this January and heard from them once in May with a casting that was 3 hours drive away and other agency had about 3 jobs in first month so you can never tell.

brooke77 · 01/10/2008 08:25

jean grey.. which agency did u go with? can often take a couple of months before you get a casting after joining a new agency.
jojosmaman.. i work p/t and mainly form home so very flexible which for me makes all the difference to be able to get to jobs/castings with the kids !

Wow.. Oct 1st already !!! shall we start a new thread ?

nicnats · 01/10/2008 09:05
