Just thought we should start a September thread

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on UAN, hope it's good news and acceptance's all round

Hi I wonder if I can get some advice here.

Loads of people say my nephew should go for modelling - he is a very laid back funny child and I think he would have the right temperament (most of the time!) for this sort of work. But my sister and I are unsure if he is what most people would be looking for. Too us he is gorgeous, but we assume most people are after big dark eyes - curly lashes etc. My little man is more like a mini rugby player with red hair and a cheeky smile

We do not want to sign him up somewhere fork out a fee, get him all excited and then it come to nothing. Are there any agencies that say "no" or do they all take your money and run? better yet is there a company that doesn't charge you a penny for anything and therefore only takes on children they genuinely think will get some 'jobs'.

TIA everyone.

MelodyDaisy · 06/09/2008 17:55

There isn't a particular set look and more and more is dependant on character also. It's very difficult to give more of an opinion than that without seeing a child though
I know MOT don't charge, or is very little, along with BB, KL and UA. You will find however that most agencie's will charge, but some alot more than others!

Navyeyelash, Our experience is with agencies who do mostly photographic - the big names who don't charge are Bruce and Brown, Urban Angels, Kids London and MOT. They are all very picky, not just on looks but also they only take on kids who don't look too similar to those they have on their books. They all have websites, take a look!

If your want TV work more, I'm sure one of the other mums will advise.

Modelling isn't about a chocolate box look, clients want all sorts - its not about a set ideal. DS is blue eyed and has has a lot of work. Send off some pics to the above though, see what they say. Good luck!

More acting work possibly try AK or CS Management, Young Uns' etc.

hi Ladies

had our UA consultation today, they didn't give much away so i'm not sure how it went really, lol! but DD really enjoyed it she loved the photographer (So did DD2 they were doing hi 5's!)and enjoyed making lots of silly faces for him. Sarah didn't really say much other than to ask me to fill out Sophie's details and hi and bye, the lady who did her make up said DD was very pretty and had beautiful eyes and hair, guess we will have to wait and see. The email said we will hear by 12th but sarah said today she will probably be phoning round on the 15th.

Good luck to everyone waiting x

christabel · 07/09/2008 19:27

Have asked this before but seems to get lost in other postings but wondered if anyone with UA and what sort of jobs do you get.
hopelesshousewife - you say UA don't charge but UA are doing consulations at moment and charge £45 per year (this is for photos and to go on website)

marymay · 07/09/2008 20:01

Hi christabel...My Two are with u/a but a little older dd is 12 and ds has just turned 10.They have been with them for a couple of years .Ds has had more jobs quite a few photographic and two tv jobs .dd has done photographic and one commercial and booked for a girls mag for next week.
We have nothing to compare with as only ever been with them. But i think they are great. we wouldnt change.

hopelesshousewife · 07/09/2008 20:09

Christabel, as far as I know all agencies charge for pics, though they sometimes take it out of earnings. UA and the like do not take a signing fee, which can be very high with some agencies. £45 for pics is very reasonable IMO.

Not currently with UA (with B and B) but see them at a lot of jobs/castings, as far as I know the London office do fashion, both high street and designer, magazines, and some TV/commercial work.

I think the north is currently more catalogue/TV and commercail stuff, though DS was put forward for a job in Manchester recently, think it was fat face or something like that. Hope that helps - there are a few mums on here with UA and they are all very happy!

totallyfloaty35 · 07/09/2008 20:28

Baby dd been with ua since birth and she almost 2 now.She has had jobs for Vodafone,m&s,Mamas&Papas,BNTM,Prima baby,Tesco,Mothercare and she is currently in the new Annabel Karmel Food planner.
Elder DD was with them for a year or so to she did a Jaqueline Wilson mag,Clarkes and Marykate/ashly internet thing, she was also stand in for tv ad(very boring but they treated her well and the money was ok) most of their work was photographic but the owner is very keen on tv and does have some kids in spotlight.

MelodyDaisy · 08/09/2008 12:38

I know quite a few of you have casting's this week, can't remember if any today, but good luck and be sure to let us know how they went

Any of you heard the outcome of your UAN consultations yet? Keeping my fingers crossed for you x

3kids1cat · 08/09/2008 18:40

Dd had a casting for New Look today. It went well, dd really enjoyed herself and the ladies were lovely. Fingers crossed for her.

She has another one tomorrow for dfs.
Good luck to everyone with castings this week and everyone waiting to hear from UAN.

TheNinkynork · 08/09/2008 19:58

Sorry to barge in, but I was wondering if DD would be suitable for modelling (Some pics on my profile)

She has expressed an interest in it, but has a blood clotting disorder which means she often has bruises of various sizes, ages and colours mainly on arms and legs. Would this be a big no no for agencies?

Thanks in advance

jojosmaman · 08/09/2008 20:12

Hi Ninky- I can't seem to see any pics on your profile? (although having said that its pointless me looking as I am new to it too, Ds isn't even with an agency!)

I am sure someone much more qualified will be along soon!

christabel · 08/09/2008 20:15

Ninky - I can't see any pics either

TheNinkynork · 08/09/2008 20:40

Oh no - I'll try to sort it, but thanks for trying!

TheNinkynork · 08/09/2008 20:45

Any good now?

Steph8880 · 08/09/2008 20:55

3kids1cat - How did your appointment go on Sunday? didn't see you there but we were a bit early and they took us straight in, did pics and we were out in no time. infact we didn't see anyone else when we were there. Which agency is your DD with now?

Steph8880 · 08/09/2008 20:59

Sorry just looked back on the post and saw you are already with UA!!!

jojosmaman · 08/09/2008 21:35

Ninky, your dd is gorgeous and looks like she would love being in front of the camera!

MelodyDaisy · 08/09/2008 21:40

TheNinkyNork-Hi I am sure this wouldn't be a problem to the agency if they are not noticable as such (face, hands) and as long as your doctor's give consent then there is no reason why you shouldn't do it! My son has heart disease but is very fit and well to take part and has far more exercise, activity by being at home

TheNinkynork · 08/09/2008 23:03

Thank you for the reply MelodyDaisy.

All the best to your DS, and good luck

Thank you too, jojosmaman for the vote of confidence! DD will be so proud that someone thinks she could do it as she was teased about her bruises quite badly last school year

TheNinkynork · 08/09/2008 23:07

BTW, jojosmaman can I see your lovely DC, or are they a secret?

liahgen · 08/09/2008 23:18

hi all.

Anyone doing the german biscuit casting Weds?

MelodyDaisy · 08/09/2008 23:22

What German biscuit is that then?
Nope, not mine, good luck

OP posts:
liahgen · 08/09/2008 23:28

can't remember the name, Irene did tell me.

Tis a commercial casting, filming in Germany at the end of the month. Agency sent pics of boys and client chose who they wanted to see.

Good in that, they already have an idea of what they are looking for and not just seeing loads. Wanted kids who could take direction well.

Fingers crossed.
