Hi everyone and good luck to the UAN consultations today!

Lisajasper- whereabouts are you based? Someone on here might know a good agency in your area and its a good idea to get advice first as there does seem to be a lot of varying costs etc out there.

christabel · 05/09/2008 10:02

Have UA Consultation later this afternoon and then DD straight off to modelling job, can't believe it applied to UA as not heard a word from agency in 6 months and then gets a straight job same day. My DD has really long hair not sure whether to curl it with tongs or leave it straight down.
Any advice from those been to UA consultations

tinkerbellchelle · 05/09/2008 10:07

christabel - I know in the email we received it said for hair to be natural ( no gel, hairspray etc ) but not sure with regards to curls etc ( wouldn't suit my DS LOL ) but Im sure there will be someone who will know Good luck for both the consultation and the modelling job

Just to say good luck to all of the people left to have UAN consultation.

Grumpalina - sounds like your consultation went well - got the awful thing of waiting now LOL!

christabel · 05/09/2008 10:10

Re UA to anyone who has been are they keeping to timeframe as need to be out within 20 minutes of appointment.

Grumpalina · 05/09/2008 10:10

TF35. Thanks for that. I suppose I will just have to see how it goes.

Grumpalina · 05/09/2008 10:14

Brooke37. Thanks also. I must admit my thinking is it will be a good learning experience and at 4 he shouldn't miss too much (they give loads of homework in reception and I know I felt with DS1 that he did more 'learning' out of school than in!!!)

jojosmaman · 05/09/2008 10:17

Hi Christabel- It says on the email to leave hair clean and unstyled so I would leave it if I were you but good luck today!

Grumpalina- sounds like your consultation was very positive! I too hadn't thought about school hours etc (since ds is only 18mths) but if I am honest, I wouldnt do it if it meant ds missing school, I am a bit of a geek when it comes down to it and never missed a day of school unless I was dying and so can't imagine taking ds out of school for modelling.

Grumpalina · 05/09/2008 10:17

Christabel. Yes they did seem to be keeping to time slots. I had booked in with DS2 at 4.30 but when I arrived they asked if DS1 wanted to have some photos done too (I hadn't put him forward intially as I didn't think it would be his thing). Anyway we were out by 4.50 and we arrived just on 4.30.

jojosmaman · 05/09/2008 10:22

Hi Christabel- we were in about half an hour but then they had a gap after us so probably werent rushing us through

jojosmaman · 05/09/2008 10:24

Wow Grumpalina you must have two gorgeous boys!! Sounds very promising for you!!

brooke77 · 05/09/2008 10:31

Just to say with regards to missing some school .. my DS is now 12 and just started year 8 at a particulary academic school. I've always felt that his modelling experience has contributed far more to helping him become a very well-rounded lad and has been a very positive thing. The occasional school day/few hours missed has not detracted from his schooling or been a hindrance to his academic ability and his schools have always been 100% supportive.

christabel · 05/09/2008 10:36

brooke 77 - same here my DD missing some school today - can't understand why UA didn't do consultations last week when kids off school. I don't think it makes much difference - same as taking kids out of school to go on holiday really

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 10:48

brooke77-my DS1's school is very much the same and because it looks like DS1 may be very busy we went in to speak to the headmistress last week before kids went back to talk to her and explain and now she is 100% behind him doing it. I think if it's explained face to face properly with the school to show your comitment to their education etc then they are far more willing to give their support.

Grumpalina · 05/09/2008 10:51

JJM. Thank-you.Well I think so but then I'm biased!!! There was a big gap bewteen 3.30 and us at 4.30 as I got a phone call asking if I could come in earlier.

Brooke77. Yes our school is v academic and they are v sniffy about taking kids out of school for holidays however I do think this is different and should be regarded as part of the learning experience.

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 10:55

Grumpalina- You may find the school easier to deal with then if you actually go in and speak to them and explain it all, will make it alot easier to have their backing, make's it all that little bit easier

OP posts:
christabel · 05/09/2008 10:55

What sort of questions do UA ask kids at consultation

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 10:58

I like the name Grumpalina bytheway!!
Also ringing your local borough to find out how long they say they need to get a license each time.

I hope you're not all waiting a long time for your answers from UAN and good luck to all

Brooke77-I had wondered where you'd gone, hope you had a nice holiday.

OP posts:
Grumpalina · 05/09/2008 11:00

MelodyDaisy. Good idea. However I am having to steal myself with patronising talk with head mistress!! Ironically a lot of this was with the idea of getting some money behind them for University (if he was so inclined!!). I am v committed to thier education so that isn't a lie and my DS1 has been there already for 4 years and had only 1 day off sick in that time (and no days off for holidays etc etc) and is doing really well so I am hoping I will get a positive reception.

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 11:08

You should do then, just make sure you go in and speak to them, makes alot of difference. My DS1 is also very academic, which we have alway's strived to achieve and will continue to strive for and by speaking to the school and explaining all of this etc really helped THEM to understand more too. She then wrote a letter for the borough so we don't have to keep asking for a letter from school for each job, but I would alway's let them know anyway.

jojosmaman · 05/09/2008 11:35

Meldoy and Brooke, your comments are really refreshing to hear, I always imagined schools would be very negative about this so its nice to know they can be supportive.

God, look at me getting all concerned by it and we are not even with an agency nevermind having had any jobs!! Oh, and also the fact that ds is many years of starting school yet. I am one of life's perpetual worriers!!

Christabel- the only questions they asked me were on the form they give you and are just his shoe/clothes size, hair colour, phone numbers, addresses etc

mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 12:00

MelodyDaisy - I think I read that your DS1 is with AK, if so, how do you find them? Am in a dilemma with DD1 as currently with KL but she would love to do more acting - any advice appreciated from anyone!!

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 12:03

www.alphabetkidz.co.uk

They are very good for more acting work and other's have also said they have seem them at most commercial casting's. I haven't been with them long but cannot fault in any way, my DS1 has has castings non-stop so far, so was defintely the right agency for us and for what my dc want to do

OP posts:
MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 12:07

I get on great with all of them at AK, really nice people to work with, I know some people have said they may get funny if you turn casting's down, but I have no intention of doing that anyway unless they were ill, so it work's very well for us

OP posts:
mummyshoneys · 05/09/2008 12:10

thanks for that. We are at the interview stage with AK, sent in photos and need to wait for an assessment/interview. It's frustrating as their next interview session is after the next KL photo session, (for their books/website) so need to work out what to do before paying for that - don't think I can do both, are AK sole rep do you know? I am pretty sure KL are.

Gosh, it all gets a bit stressful, even before the castings!! or is it just me

x

MelodyDaisy · 05/09/2008 12:19

No it's not just you! lol

AK are sole rep, would assume KL are too! Can you not try and postpone the KL one? How old is your DD1? Would make it easier for you to decide which is best thing to do if you could meet with AK first and then decide from there, good luck with your decision making!
