My aim is to get to November, lounge is 15.7 degrees C this morning though so not sure I’ll make it!

i have had a couple of occasions but not today

ThirdStorm · 19/10/2026 08:19

I'm aiming to get to 1 November. The house is quite comfortable so far, and I'll use my heated throw before I put the heating on and I've not needed to use that yet.

However, I got to work and I've put the heating on, the building is very cold!

AndAllOurYesterdays · 19/10/2026 08:19

We are debating it. I think 15 degrees is too cold for the kids. My husband wants to push through til November. It's alright in the day but the mornings and evenings are not pleasant.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 19/10/2026 08:21

The other night for the first time at home . Friday evening i think . I work a lot of afternoon/ evenings , it went on yesterday teatime at work and im working tonight until 10pm so judging by how cold it is now it will probably go on at work tonight too .
Im trying to warm up at work and not switch our heating on at home until November to be honest

Puhpuhpuhpuh · 19/10/2026 08:23

We haven’t. It’s not cold at all. But we have just put the extra duvet on the bed and I’m about to dig out the heated throw.

UsernameHoarder · 19/10/2026 08:23

First time I've had it on in the morning. I had run a 30 min boost a couple of times before today. But I am considering setting the schedule for the mornings now. No one wants to get up and showered in the freezing cold. The evenings can wait a bit longer, we will use oil filled radiators in the rooms we are using instead for a bit longer.

AltitudeCheck · 19/10/2026 08:25

Not even close, we only put the duvet back on after a summer of sleeping under just the duvet cover! Hoping to get a couple of radiators replaced and boiler serviced before end Nov, ready for heating on then.

We get the chimney swept tomorrow so will have the woodstove available for chilly evenings soon!.

MrsMitford3 · 19/10/2026 08:25

Def not here.

I love a cold house-used to crack and put on underfloor heating for the cat but she has sadly died so no interest whatsoever in turning on the heating.

❄
edited to add-still sleeping with window wide open and a fan on

gullgal · 19/10/2026 08:37

I love being warm so it went on a good few weeks ago.

Bogstandardname · 19/10/2026 08:37

On Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours. Log burner lit in the evenings now but that only warms one room. This house is perishing cold but the energy bills are crippling so have to limit it's use. It is very difficult now we are retired - limited income and home all day shivering mostly.

Sunbringer · 19/10/2026 08:41

Me. It won’t be going on at all tbh. I can’t afford it. We use electric blankets instead.

Get yourself under a heated blanket. Our Victorian is ice cold all winter and they really help.

Mines set at 20 so it's been on a fair few times. There's things I would sacrifice first before heating. Don't ask me what they are tho I'll have to think of something 😂

Edited

Speak for yourself but we’ve had frost and frozen cars the last 3 mornings!!

Wheniswinenight · 19/10/2026 08:43

I’d have it on but it’s not bloody working!
Freezing here in Ireland in the mornings.

oustedbymymate · 19/10/2026 08:43

Not yet. Have swapped over to winter duvet and got the oil filled radiators out but will be holding off a bit longer yet it’s so expensive!

mtobrokeme · 19/10/2026 08:43

Me! House has insulated cladding on it, and it traps heat! I also can’t stand being hot in the night so with duvets it’s fine! I’m not trying to not put the heating on, I will when it’s cold outside but while I don’t have to I won’t!

MiddleAgedDread · 19/10/2026 08:44

Mine has been on for the odd hour but when temps were forecast to drop to 1degree overnight at weekend it went onto the scheduled timer until such time as it warms up a bit so probably July

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/10/2026 08:46

South facing part of the flat is fine but the bathroom faces north and it's chilly in the morning. I think this week will be when it goes on.

Bristleorwhistle175 · 19/10/2026 08:47

We’ve just put ours on for a couple of hours morning and evening at around 17.5 degrees.

A heating engineer once told me that it’s a false economy to wait too long to put the heating on, because it takes more power and expenditure to heat up a completely cold house compared to one that still has some residual heat in it.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 19/10/2026 08:49

Gosh I’d feel ill at 15 degrees! Mines set at 21 so earlier last week on for an hour morning and night, now it’s on and off during the day to sit at around 20.5 - I just leave it set at that all winter can’t bare a cold house

BluebadgeCF · 19/10/2026 08:52

I have all electric radiators so holding off as long as I can as they are pricy to run.

I need a proper thermostat so can’t be sure the temperature, I have bought a lovely new fluffy dressing gown and slippers and it seems to working, in fact I am a little bit too warm this morning

Love your name Sunbringer! Yes, we do have heated blankets and they are lovely when you are sitting down but that is only in the evenings. I have been looking at heated ponchos that you can wear during the day. I may well get one and see if they help.

Waitingfordoggo · 19/10/2026 08:55

Not yet and no winter duvet yet either. I’m in the South and it’s 16° in the house this morning. That temperature is fine for moving about and doing jobs. I’ve just now sat down with a cuppa and put a blanket over me. I really like the feeling of being snuggly under a blanket in a cool/cold room.

dizzydizzydizzy · 19/10/2026 08:55

Not yet. I’m in London. My flat is currently 19C and the window is wide open.
