My aim is to get to November, lounge is 15.7 degrees C this morning though so not sure I’ll make it!

I tried to switch mine on today but it wouldn’t come on 😢 bugger.

Freezing here in Edinburgh. Thick frost on car this morning. Heating has been on most of day.

Def not here.

I love a cold house-used to crack and put on underfloor heating for the cat but she has sadly died so no interest whatsoever in turning on the heating.

I'm with you on this one. Still traumatised from being cooked all summer. Can't beat a cold house and a big cosy duvet.

Carjuke · 19/10/2026 18:23

Heating on here. Live in South East but our house is cold plus I have lost quite a lot of weight ( intentionally) and am missing my internal insulation!

Lougle · 19/10/2026 18:27

We haven't yet. We're half-way through our wall insulation being renewed, so it's a tad chilly.

Parky04 · 19/10/2026 18:34

It's still 20 degrees in our living room so heating not even being considered!

CanYouComeUp · 19/10/2026 18:38

I live in london, so the question hasn’t arisen yet

MadisonAvenue · 19/10/2026 18:43

We haven’t, it’s still 19° in the house and while my husband is complaining of feeling cold (he can stick another layer on) I’m trying to leave it switched off until November.

HoraceCope · 19/10/2026 19:09

i have put it on this evening.

FunPartyIdeas · 19/10/2026 19:10

I'm freezing in bed as my husband says a 9.5 tog duvet is far too hot and we've still got the 4.5 on.
Should I LTB?!!!! 😄

PammyPrang · 19/10/2026 19:13

These threads are meaningless unless people divulge their location and type of dwelling. It’s obvious a mid-level (ie sandwiched between two others) flat in Bournemouth is going to need less heating than a draughty rectory in Northumberland.

Toodaloos · 19/10/2026 19:14

Nope, not us! It’s cooler for sure but plenty warm enough in jeans and jumper. Thermostat has dropped to 13 so far but not cracking.

Even psychotic enough to have all the windows open in the bedroom at night whilst snuggled under my 5 tog duvet. There’s definitely something wrong with me but kids have inherited it too as not a peep out of them about feeling cold….

EverybodyLTB · 19/10/2026 19:15

We’re in the gearing up stage. I will allow incremental warmth add-ons, as I don’t want my kids to be cold, but trying not to be weak before November 1st. No central heating just yet, but blow heater is going on in the morning and evening for an hour in the kitchen-diner where everyone always is. I washed every blanket and oodie and wotnot while it was still bright throughout September, and they’re getting brought out gradually now. I’m in my mid weight oodie now. Hot chocolate and ovaltine of an evening 😍

Heating oil costs have seemingly doubled since last October. We have to pay upfront. This week’s delivery was over £600. So it stays off until it’s unbearable as that has to last the winter and the tank isn’t even full. We have oil filled radiators and DH wants to get a heat pump.
I badly feel the cold and work in a very old building so can’t warm up there either. I spend a lot of time in thermals, heated throws and hovering over the fireplace. I keep wheat bags, Uggs and long fingerless gloves at work.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 19/10/2026 19:26

Not yet. But currently under a heated blanket. The extortionate cost of filling up the oil tank last time means I’m trying to eek out putting it on just yet.

Are you all really poor or just enjoy being miserable why would you want to be cold in your own home

ItsOnlyMee1 · 19/10/2026 19:31

We usually wait until November but have been feeling under the weather so given it 1 hour each morning for the past few days

Fuschiagreen · 19/10/2026 19:33

Yes, to us it’s worth 50-100 quid a month to be warm at home so it goes on via the thermostat (whenever below 18, but not on all night). Grateful to be able to do this

I also love a cold house. I sleep with the windows open all year, and refuse to turn the radiator on in the main bedroom. My DH complains bitterly but I just ignore. 😁

Sasha07 · 19/10/2026 19:39

Not us. I'm loving finally feeling cold again! I have considered getting the electric blanket out but a dressing gown in the morning/evening is good enough for now!
I know when it's getting cold as the dog has started pawing to be let into my dressing gown so he's acting as my little hot water bottle 🥰

muddyford · 19/10/2026 19:41

It's 16C in here, fine at the moment, but was 14C in ny bedroom this morning. So then I put the heating on for an hour.

Same. I'm watching YouTube videos for tips to fix it.

Could be either! I’m not what I would consider poor, but the difference in my gas bill between summer and winter, now we are shown everything in minute detail on an app, has made me much more conscious of just how much it costs me per month to whack the heating on. Rads on across my house costs £120 a month in the winter, so I’d rather that start in November than October. Electric goes up, food bills go up, massive adult sized kids, Christmas and all winter birthdays. Just trying to be slightly more frugal. Also in my case we are not cold and miserable! Just thinking before putting the heating on, which is not what I used to do. I remember my mum always commenting about how ridiculous it was my kids would be running barefoot in summer pjs in January, and the house would be tropical. She’d say turn the heating down and put a jumper and some slippers on. Now I’m a lone parent I’m a bit more wary of throwing money up into the air.

😂😂 love this comment! Definitely not poor nor miserable being cold! I hate being hot and after all the heat this year, it's finally getting to cold/cosy temperatures! Well, still abit warm for me but atleast it's getting there!
I hate going to bed hot so when it's cold and I get into my heavy, poofy, cosy bedding, it's perfect. Feet out to keep from getting too warm but snug as a bug everywhere else. My teenage son is still out until late in shorts! We just naturally run hot, I think!

Never before December unless there’s an infant grandchild staying. It’s 16 indoors now, the French door is open, there’s a line full of washing out and I’m perfectly comfortable in leggings and a t-shirt with a light long-sleeved jumper. I’ll pop a gilet on to walk the dogs and might have a fleece across my lap when the dogs and cats and I settle on the sofa after dark. Still got the summer duvet on the bed.

So what happens if on 1st November, we have a cold snap and it's minus 10 outside, and inside your home it's 5 degrees? You'd still not put the heating on because it's the wrong month?
