New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Afternoon. Uneventful journey, rain most of the way but the sun’s out now. We’re replacing the TV here as it’s from the old caravan and very out-dated. DH is currently fitting the new one on the wall. He never bloody stops!

Glad you enjoyed the book club LetUs.

FancyFancy · 14/05/2026 17:38

Afternoon. Am feeling very lucky - have a few days off and we have a thunderstorm, so I can just sit and watch 😁 Being daylight it's not the most spectacular, but no complaints from me. We also had everything yesterday - sun, rain, thunder, hail and wind but I was at work so not so fun. Now if we can just have a good downpour I will be completely happy. DS is with me for a few days, his new flat wasn't ready by the time his existing lease ended which is a huge pain for him but fingers crossed he can move in next week and in the meantime we can have a nice few days.

LetUsPrey · 14/05/2026 19:45

Evening wenches.

Honestly Wicked, I don’t think it does 😁

Hope you get some decent weather Apricot, and that MrApricot actually sits down for a minute!

That’s nice for DS Fancy that he can spend a few days with you. I think we’ve got thunder forecast for tomorrow. We shall see.

Plenty of rain here. Sunny at the moment but I suspect there’s another downpour coming.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/05/2026 22:08

Evening all. Cat chaos this morning - IdiotKitty was nowhere to be found, though he'd been in overnight at some point to eat a mouse, and Spot sneaked into the utility room and got shut in - much plaintive squeaking when I came back in from feeding chickens! I told DH that IdiotKitty was awol, and he looked around too, then sat down to start work. Then looked up as Idiot sauntered out of the room, so we've got no idea what corner he'd hidden in. Kittens were jabbed this afternoon, and seem none the worse for it.

We didn't get much rain today at all, but I've just seen the weather for this weekend and it's pretty disastrous for a local street fair - minimum 60% chance 'thundery showers' all day Confused Last time I looked it was a chance of light showers. I'm keeping fingers crossed that the forecast changes again, for the better.

Did you get your downpour Fancy? A few days off and DS staying sounds great - hopefully his new place gets sorted quickly though.

Hopefully you have a new TV now Apricot and a bit of peace and quiet!

Morning wenches.

I shall cross everything for a forecast change for the better Helen. Am picturing IdiotKitty hiding quietly in a dark corner, like a supervillain.

Rain here again overnight but bright sunshine now. Once foday’s done I’m off for a week. Hurrah!

Hsve super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 15/05/2026 11:01

Morning. Rain and cloud here.

IdiotKitty was not hiding this morning - I can't imagine him as a super villain to be honest. He's more SuperCuteAnnoyingIdiot - "Oh - me? You were looking for me? I didn't realise when I saw you walk past me calling my name"

Freelancing is urgh. Client doing something they were specifically told they shouldn't do. F.M.L.

Week off sounds lovely LetUs - have you got any plans?

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 15/05/2026 17:00

Afternoon. Much torrential rain early this morning but this afternoon was sunny although with a cold wind. DH has been playing with the new TV and now he’s contemplating changing the tap in the kitchen. <sigh>

Misty does that Helen. I can search the house for her thinking she’s got out and then she’ll stroll nonchalantly out of the room I’ve just searched every corner of. I think they become invisible. Hope the weather behaves itself for you tomorrow.

Yay for week off LetUs.

Enjoy your time with DS Fancy.

LetUsPrey · 15/05/2026 21:44

Evening wenches.

Busy day but now freeeeeeee!! I shall shop and haircut and physio and lunch but also crochet and knit.

DS1 may be part cat. Years and years ago we were at DS2’s swimming lesson and suddenly no DS1 to be seen. Looked everywhere several times, no sign and I was properly starting to panic. Went back again to viewing area and there he was. He swore he’d been there all the time but I’d been in there at least twice and not seen him.

LetUsPrey · 16/05/2026 07:43

Morning wenches.

Sunshine but it doesn’t fool me into putting the washing out. I bet it’ll be raining within the hour and certainly when I’m out in town.

Usual Saturday of pottering about and housework etc.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 16/05/2026 08:24

Morning all. We went out last night to meet friends, which was lovely to just sit and natter.

Lovely and sunny just now. Today really is the tour thing which I thought was last weekend, so I need to get cracking...

(Kittens have broken out into another room - they have discovered that they can jump high enough to scramble over the wooden barrier. More opportunities to lose them!)

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 16/05/2026 17:04

Afternoon. Rain on and off all day so we haven’t done much.

Grin at LetUsDS1 being part cat.

Hope you enjoyed your tour thing Helen.

We’re going out for a meal later so I don’t have to cook.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 16/05/2026 18:46

Evening all.

The tour was quite interesting, I found out things I didn't know, and then I did a supermarket shop. Scintillating stuff.

Kittens and children both come with invisibility cloaks built in. One of my friends lost her DC in a shop - all the staff were searching, friend was frantic, and absolutely no sign of the child. The police were called and came out to take details for a missing child report. Said child eventually meandered out to see what the fuss, was from a comfy chair in the changing area where they had fallen asleep. Shock My friend can laugh now... just about.

The street fair has been cancelled; the weather forecast is completely innocuous now Confused

Hope everywench has had a lovely day of gentle pottering about!

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 16/05/2026 19:27

Evening wenches.

Oh yes, the tour thing! Pleased it was interesting Helen. That’s a shame about the street fair. Uh oh at escapee kittens!

I’ve known two separate families who thought they’d lost children who then turned out to have settled down to sleep in airing cupboards.

It’s currently chucking it down here. DH is out, DS2 is shouting at sport on the tv. Went to another local craft shop today which is sadly closing down (ill health I think they’ve said). I’ve been quite a few times before. I got lots of yarn at quite large price reductions which means a lot more charity blankets etc but I still felt a bit crappy as it was bit sort of taking advantage IYSWIM.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 17/05/2026 07:25

Morning all. Not raining yet...

Off to a plant sale at a local village today, no other plans.

Have a good day all. Oh - Eurovision. DH has gone from loathing it, to putting it on himself, and saying he'd shout if anything extraordinarily daft came on. Which is fun, except he only seems to watch it to grumble about political/predictable voting and say that things are crap. I need to zone him out more.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 17/05/2026 08:06

Morning wenches.

DS2 decided to watch some of Eurovision last night and I think he stayed up to the end. Don’t know why. DH doesn’t get it either so when I’ve watched it I definitely tune him out.

More rain overnight and rain forecast on and off from now until part of Tuesday. Getting warmer though and the latter end of the week is looking good (so far).

Ironing done. I’d wanted to start putting together some granny squares today but they’re still damp and pinned out to get them to an even size. So many problems 😁

Have super days wenches.

LetUsPrey · 17/05/2026 17:51

Evening wenches.

First batch of squares dried. Played Hokey Cokey with the next lot, bringing them in, putting them back out, running outside when DH shouted that it was raining again.

LovelyMIL came round and seemed to be having a good day for the most part. There’s been quite a lot of football on today but I’ve seized control of the remote and have settled on Murder, She Wrote.

ApricotCrush · 17/05/2026 18:21

Afternoon. Nice sunny day, but the wind was too cold to sit out and I don’t like walking in the wind so we’ve done bugger all.

Hope the plant sale went well Helen, shame about the street fair.

Also shame about the craft shop LetUs; there’s nothing in our town or nearby now. Sad

We once lost DD on a camping site in France and didn’t even know it. She was with DH’s sister and her cousins in the toilet block but went back to the tent where I’d gone not knowing that I’d already left and gone down to the pool. A lovely man found her and offered to drive her to the pool to find us but bless her, she refused to get into his car (she was only 5), so he walked her down. I thought she was still with the others who hadn’t got to the pool. I shudder to think what could have happened. Shock

ApricotCrush · 17/05/2026 18:26

Oh, I typed that earlier and it’s only just posted. The internet here is crap.

Glad LovelyMIL seems to be having a good day LetUs.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 17/05/2026 22:03

Evening all. Plant sale was fun. My absolute favourite moment was when an old man came out of the village hall with with his wife muttering "It's just plants". Like, yes - the clue is in the title 'Plant Sale'. We had about 2 spots of rain, and its been really quite warm in the sun - though colder when the clouds got thicker this afternoon.

I have no idea what Granny squares are - presumably crochet? I'm impressed with MrLetUs noticing the rain.

We lost DS at Legoland once. He told us where to sit while he ran about on their massive wooden pirate ship play fort. Then proceeded to not be able to find us, and left the playground looking for us. Meanwhile, we were sitting, oblivious, where he told us to wait. Fortunately he got scooped up and taken off to lost property children by the staff, while we had finally realised he hadn't been seen for a few minutes and started to hunt for him. DS was most unimpressed when DH arrived to fetch him - he'd been watching a film and was quite happy. Grin

Hope every wench has had a good day with not too much rain.

FancyFancy · 17/05/2026 22:24

Evening.

We did get some rain thanks helen, not a huge amount but enough to soak in a bit so I was happy. We've had a few showers since too, so I'm hoping that if we can get some warm weather the garden may start growing again.

It's been nice having DS here, and useful - I was in need of brute strength and height today Grin. Tomorrow I have builders round for a few small jobs in the house & garden so an early start for me. Will need to get to bed earlier than last night - DD was here for the evening for Eurovision. I liked Bulgaria in the semis, but they weren't predicted to do well then, so my hopes weren't high, it was a pleasant surprise for me that they won. Almost as pleasant a surprise as MrHelen now being a Eurovision fan!!!! <snorts> Although 'he'd shout if anything extraordinarily daft came on'. It's Eurovision. when anything extraordinarily daft came on. Was he hoarse by the end of the night? I did enjoy the interval act where past winners sang covers of Eurovision classics - Lordi singing 'Save Your Kisses for Me' was glorious

Have a fabulous week off letus & I hope you manage to stay in charge of the remote control for the evening.

Your DD sounds like a very savvy person apricot, even at 5 years old!

LetUsPrey · 18/05/2026 06:49

Morning wenches.

Raasaiiiinnnn but I don’t care because no work! Although I would like to get these crochet squares dry.

What a very sensible girl Apricot.

Selling just plants at a plant sale Helen?! No fridge freezers or hot sauce? Madness 😁 Pleased the weather stayed more or less good for you. Can just imagine MiniHelen being quite put out!

I’ve watched the Bulgarian entry. Wasn’t for me. Certainly wasn’t Maneskin or Lordi. Definitely going to look for their recent performance though 😁

DS2 has again volunteered to come shopping with me again. He’s either bored or banged his head.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 18/05/2026 08:05

Morning all. Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiired.

Oh yes - Lordi in the interval - that was wonderful!

Glad that DS has been making himself useful Fancy - have you got him for a bit longer or is he in his flat now?

LetUs - DS has started to do the veg prep for tea sometimes. Do you think you DC are starting to experiment with role playing helpful human beings?

Afternoon. Warmer today and the wind has dropped. We went to the local big town this morning to do the usual shop. We park on the front where it’s free but were surprised to find parking meters and worse still, the instructions were only in Welsh. We got that it was £3.50 for under 2 hours and £5 over Shock, but couldn’t see how to choose which one. We gave up in the end and went to park at Matalan which is further to walk but free. There used to be a big car park here but they built an M&S food store on it. They’re not helping their tourist trade.

In the wildlife department, there is a seagull nest on top of the caravan next door. (There’s no-one there at the moment, in fact we haven’t seen anyone for ages.) We can see mum’s head when she’s sitting on it. I think it’s only eggs now as we haven’t seen any food going in. It doesn’t look the most professional nest as it’s rather untidy and precarious but I suppose they know what they’re doing.

Granny squares are indeed crochet Helen. You join them together to make blankets, bags or garments.

Hope the building jobs are going well Fancy and that LetUs is enjoying her week off.

LetUsPrey · 18/05/2026 20:26

Evening wenches.

DS2 tried stuff on this morning without complaining!! Put together with MiniHelen assisting in the kitchen and there’s definitely something afoot.

I bought some trousers but not for work so the hunt continues. Also, barely a v neck t shirt in sight and what there was wasn’t in my size. Physio was super helpful. I might actually do the exercises from now on.

Watched the Lordi clip. Excellent 😁

Totally get what you mean Apricot. Hi we’re trying to help support the high street. Hmm, well we’re going to make that just a bit trickier.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 18/05/2026 22:07

Evening all.

Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired. That is all.

(Hurrah for exercises LetUs, LOL at unprofessional seagull nests Apricot)
