New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Morning wenches.

Hurrah for new bath! We have rain if you’d like some now that the washing’s dry?

Not a great night’s sleep so I’m not quite with it just yet. Another visit to bra shop after work which will hopefully be successful, then DS2 is at the dentist. He needs a filling and is also needle phobic. Have reassured he won’t be the first patient they’ve had like that etc etc.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/08/2026 08:17

Morning wenches. My shoulder says "Ow!" FFS. <whinge>

Sunny outside, and I haven't looked at the actual forecast to see how likely rain is, but feel free to send some this way LetUs

Afteroon. Nice day, still quite warm, but we had a short sharp downpour earlier which the garden enjoyed.

Yay for new bath Helen but boo for shoulder. DH had an MRI on his shoulder six months ago and hasn't heard anything about it. He has a follow up appointment after his carpal tunnel operation later this week so will ask about it then.

Hope your bra visit went well LetUs and DS2 coped with the dentist.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 26/08/2026 20:03

Evening wenches.

Work was absolute bobbins, but bra shopping was successful, and most importantly DS2 did super well at the dentist. Could tell his anxiety was ramping up as we waited but he was back relatively quickly. The numbing gel seemed to be sufficient as it was a very shallow filling.

We had some thunder! Oooooo!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/08/2026 22:11

Evening all. We haven't had any rain, it's still quite warm.

6 months Apricot? That's mad! Surely they must have looked at the scan by now. Shock Well done to miniLetus at the dentist, and hurrah for successful shopping. Work can, as ever, FTFO.

It turns out that Spot has been having me on - she's quite capable of barrelling in through the cat flap (with a mouthful of mouse). Hmm I shall stop calling her in through the patio door once it's dark, she can use the cat flap! Slinky has spent a lot of the day asleep on me - or on my chair, at which point I have to perch on the edge because it's her chair now.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 27/08/2026 06:53

Morning wenches.

Picturing Spot charging through the cat flap without realising you’re there Helen. “I wonder if she saw that, perhaps she didn’t see it… no, she saw me bombing through the cat flap. Busted”. 😁 at you perching on Slinky’s chair.

I think we have more thunder forecast today. Definitely a lot of rain this afternoon.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/08/2026 12:45

Afternoon all. We had a short sharp downpour late morning, but it lasted a couple of minutes and didn't actually give us much rain. Nothing much going on at all to be honest - excitement of the day so far - the bin men have just turned up, so I'll need to bring the bin back onto the drive.
Best crack on with work again.

Afternoon. Lots of rain, all night and all day. Well we did ask for it. Unfortunately it’s leaked into the covered area between the garage and the house and into the shoe cupboard and my shoes are soaked. They’re only my everyday shoes, the best ones are in my wardrobe but there are a dozen pairs of various types and condition. Shock Hopefully they’ll dry out. DH is on the roof sorting it, usual problem, blocked guttering.

Well done to LetUsDS2 at the dentist and Grin at Slinky for pinching the chair.

LetUsPrey · 27/08/2026 20:19

Evening wenches.

It started raining at around 11am, proper heavy rain, stopped around 4pm and it’s just started up again now complete with thunder and lightning. In fact, it’s just got heavier and is very loud on the roof of the room I’m in.

Someone clearing out a blocked gutter will always remind me of A Murder Is Announced 😊

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/08/2026 22:34

Not much rain here, and it stayed very humid even when we did have some.
Fingers crossed for your shoes drying out Apricot! Sodding gutters!

Morning wenches.

More rain but I’m counting ourselves very lucky in that we have decent amounts of rain (even if it is the Bank Holiday weekend) but no, or very little, flooding. Not sure the festival goers at localish music festival will feel the same way about the rain though.

Friday thank goodness. No SportingActivity tonight for DS2

Flipping shower is on the blink. We’ve not had it that long either. DH will remember who fitted it so hopefully they can come and have a look at it.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/08/2026 08:48

Morning all. Sunny out and no rain overnight that I've noticed. I have been wrangling chickens (eating eggs), kittens and Idiot kitty (who want to eat each others food) and chickens (getting into the kitchen to eat kitten food. FFS and all that.

It's also now that time of year where windfalls need to be gathered and either eaten or cooked up. <wilts> Not that we're not lucky to have them all, but... <wilts>

Afternoon
Some rain here, very on and off and much distant thunder yesterday afternoon - whoever was under that must have had quite a show.

Hope everything dries out ok apricot

Well done to miniLetus, he must be mighty relieved to get through that.

Sounds manic trying to keep everyone away from the kitten food Helen!

Batshit dreams have buggered off, instead Chonk is trying to disturb my sleep - shouting to come in very late, dithering when I open the window in case Floof pounces on him and then noisily eating a mouse. More fool me for not putting my glasses on, I hadn't noticed he was trying to bring on e in 🤣

ApricotCrush · 28/08/2026 17:54

Afternoon. Sunny intervals with a downpour earlier. We had a lot of thunder and lightning last night. The shoes seem to have dried out.

DH has been to the hospital for his follow up after the carpel tunnel op and asked about the MRI, it’s the same consultant. He also repaired his arm after The Chainsaw Incident. Anyway he’s given him an injection and if that doesn’t work a new shoulder is an option. Shock

Sounds a nightmare with everyone eating the wrong food Helen.

That’s annoying about the faulty shower LetUs. Ours is slow to drain and I don’t like the idea of having floorboards up to sort it out.

Eeeek at noisy mouse-eating Fancy.

LetUsPrey · 28/08/2026 20:19

Evening wenches.

End of days type rain this morning but luckily I was already in the office.

As long as either MrHelen or MiniHelen don’t walk through eating something saying “mmm these little biscuits are tasty” 😁

Honestly, cats have no manners Fancy.

If MrApricot does need a new shoulder, perhaps he could ask if they’ll do a bulk deal?

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/08/2026 22:41

Evening all. I would 100% take noisy mouse eating Fancy - Slinky has just let a shrew loose in the house. Can't bloody find the thing. FML etc.

We've had apocalyptic clouds, some rain and some distant rumbly thunder this evening. But mostly sunny and warm.

<snort> at the manshapes eating cat biscuits LetUs Grin I said about the sink unblocker I got? Vacuum pump job (same sort of thing as https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18568460580? ) . It worked a treat on our blocked sink, and came with a large attachment for larger drains. Also the dalek plunger does a good job on the shower. (This sort of thing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394502615775? )

DH has the shoulder injection years ago Apricot and it fixed the problem. Hopefully it will work for MrA as well.

LetUsPrey · 29/08/2026 07:20

Morning wenches.

I like the sound of the sink unblocked thingies Helen. Most satisfying.

It was quite pleasantly sunny as I walked downstairs with an armful of washing. By the time I’ve got to the kitchen it’s gone quite dark.

Birthday lunch with BestFriend today so I’ll probably be quite tired later.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/08/2026 12:05

Morning all. We have cloud and drizzle. And a friend visiting for the weekend.

DS is off to see his GF, solo driving to somewhere he hasn't been before. eek! 😬

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 29/08/2026 17:48

Afternoon. More of the same weather-wise. I've been doing some more paperwork sorting and chucking out. It's amazing how much you collect over the years.

DH says we've got one of those plunger things Helen, it's just a matter of finding it and doing the job. Hope you found the shrew and DS got to where he was going safely.

Also hope LetUs enjoyed her lunch.

LetUsPrey · 29/08/2026 19:35

Evening wenches.

Delicious lunch, excellent cocktails, and best of all wonderful chat with BestFriend.

I’m sure MiniHelen’s first solo journey went perfectly but it’s still a bit aarrgghh.

I need to be inspired by your sorting etc Apricot.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/08/2026 23:57

OMG it's late again - visiting friend is a bad influence.

Rain today. I was at a open air theatre thing this evening which got moved into the village hall. Just as well given the rain and thunder. We also had an afternoon out which invoved a cafe with cake. Oink Grin

DS managed his solo driving fine - phew.

LetUsPrey · 30/08/2026 08:14

Morning wenches.

That sounds a lovely way to spend an afternoon and evening Helen.

Ironing’s done and a usual Sunday beckons.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 30/08/2026 10:11

Morning all. I have had a productive morning while everyone else sleeps, so now I'm having breakfast in peace and quiet on the sofa, while looking at a 16-square sudoku. Cast have left various bits of mouse about the house, and we had more 'Get the mouse out' moments last night, (though at least none got let go on the house this time). It's enough to make me consider closing the catflap off and they have to rely on us to be let in and out.

It's that time of year now when letting the chickens out also includes picking up windfalls, and annoyingly, with the rain lots of the wild plums have split and are now rotting on the tree. FFS and all that.

No plans today, we'll see what the weather does.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 30/08/2026 16:19

Afternoon. It's been a nice day although thunderstorms were forecast which didn't materialise. DS came round earlier with DGD but no DGS2. He didn't want to go to his Dad's today apparently and you don't argue with him!

Sixteen-square sudoku Helen? Shock I haven't seen those. DH's friend has given him a load of damsons so I suppose I'll have to make some jam. I do like it, but the stones are a pain to get out.

Hope everyone's had a nice quiet day.

LetUsPrey · 30/08/2026 20:44

Evening wenches.

Usual day with added thunder and lightning and torrential rain.

16 squares Helen?! Blimey.

Next door have a pear tree and every year all the fruit falls to the ground and then just rots there. DH says at least the wasps like it.

I think I’ve eaten too much dinner <inflates>
