New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Morning all. Rain overnight and first thing, though I didn't check to see how much because I was busy trying to find Spot, who was AWOL (she was back in the house by the time I came back in from the chickens, and is now asleep on my lap).
It was another stupid late night and then I couldn't get to sleep, so today will be delightful. Sad Still, onwards...

Afternoon. More rain overnight but it’s been quite a pleasant day. We did have a lovely meal last night and DD had a nice time. She deserves it though because she always arranges everyone else’s special birthday celebrations, cakes, balloons etc. We had a late-for-us night so I haven’t done a great deal today.

Hope LetUs had a good lunch with DS2 and Helen’s day wasn’t too hectic.

LetUsPrey · 21/08/2026 18:23

Evening wenches.

DD absolutely sounds like she deserves to have many wonderful days Apricot.

Hope you managed to stay awake through the day Helen and then get some sleep tonight.

Lovely relaxing day. Lunch was very nice. Was quite warm most of the day but it’s a bit chilly now.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/08/2026 22:26

Evening all. We've had a mix of sunshine and rain today. And work. Work involved a productive meeting about... spreadsheets. Which isn't quite as dull as it sounds, and also involved me and another finance minion trying to work out how to make a higher up finance person understand what we're doing.

Hope you've had a lovely day off LetUs, and that Apricot has enjoyed a chilled day of not much. Hope that Fancy and Wicked have had a good week.

Hurrah for the weekend. We have to move a bath so that it can be swapped with our current one, which also means some tidying should be done. argh.

Morning wenches.

Ah Helen, the number of times at work I (or NC) have had to reword an email so the solicitor recipient will understand what we’re talking about. Re-read it, nope, not quite simple enough.

Bath moving does not sound fun.

Meeting BestFriend this morning, usual house stuff through the day, out tonight at a party although won’t be a late one as someone has a race tomorrow morning and I’m supposed to be driving him there and cheering him on at various points. Not that I don’t want to be supportive, but I’ve honestly other things to be doing on a Sunday and it’s stomped on the party fun tonight.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/08/2026 10:35

Morning. I've have a whirl of doing stuff - washing is out on the line, I did some hoovering, and I chugged away on the stepper for half an hour. The rest of the day is mine to... sort out the sodding bath I expect. Hmm Never mind, the new bath will be nice when it's in.

Being supportive can be tedious and inconvenient at times LetUs - sympathies. Have a lovely time with BestFriend and the TruncatedParty.

Afternoon. Very sunny and warm this morning so after lunch I went to sit outside. It clouded over so I came in and did some ironing instead which was probably a better use of my time.

Hope the bath moving went well for Helen.

Have a lovely time at the party LetUs. Shame about tomorrow, that's a difficult situation.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/08/2026 22:49

Evening all. The day has gone as expected, with extra channeling of my inner Apricot and trawling through photos to organise them Grin
One load of washing is dried and the other is being darked on. Not sure what the forecast is, so hoping for no rain overnight.

Currently watching Doctor Strange, which is always fun.

Evening wenches.

Party was fun, food was amazing as usual.

DH said earlier that actually it’s okay if I don’t go with him tomorrow, it’s fine and he can just go himself, what did I think? I said hmm okay well I’ll think about that and we can chat about it later. 😁 so we chatted later and I said if he’s sure he doesn’t mind, I’ll stay home and get on with the day as usual.

LetUsPrey · 23/08/2026 08:26

Morning wenches.

Flapjacks are cooling, ironing’s done, washing is whizzing around in the machine.

More or less usual Sunday with the exception of DH’s race.

Have super days wenches.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 23/08/2026 16:10

Afternoon.

I haven't been very active lately because of losing one cat and gaining another. I didn't plan to get another cat so fast but I guess The Cat Distribution System thought otherwise Smile

Currently rewatching Ted Lasso on Apple. Some really good shows on there, like Slow Horses and Widow's Bay, really recommend.

Hope all wenches has a good day Smile

ApricotCrush · 23/08/2026 16:59

Afternoon. It’s been a beautiful day, sunny but not too hot. DS is at the caravan so we went to water his plants and greenhouse this morning. He’s so fussy, I had to video DH going round with the hose so he could give instructions as we went along. Hmm

It’s useful having all the photos digitised Helen. DH’s sister messaged me yesterday asking what year we had a certain holiday and I was able to answer straightaway and send a picture.

Your new cat was meant for you WW. I wasn’t looking for a cat but Misty ‘spoke’ to me from the rescue centre’s FB page and I had to have her. Smile

Hope MrLetUs did well in his race.

LetUsPrey · 23/08/2026 20:01

Evening wenches.

Awwww at new TavCats speaking to their owners that they need to be together. That’s so sweet!

Apricot your DS sounds a bit like DH re watering plants when we’re away. I’m not going to tell him about the video call idea though!

Lovely weather here too but gone quite chilly again now.

DH did very well in his race. I’m very proud of him.

We had my parents and LovelyMIL round for lunch. Obviously super grateful that they’re still with us and close by, but I needed a nap afterwards 😁

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/08/2026 20:51

Evening all. It's been lovely weather, but I've been indoors for most of it working on photos. <sigh> Though I did get out to meet a friend for a couple of hours, so that was nice.

OMG at plant watering control freakery - if someone waters plants for me, I'm just grateful that the plants are being kept alive - the most I'll do is say that something along the lines of 'that one doesn't like too much water'!

It's good that you have a new cat to keep you company Wicked - you'll have lots of fun getting to know all her quirks and telling us about them Grin

We have a plumber coming tomorrow so I have to go and clear out the bathroom...

Evening. Seem to have been quite tired this.week, not helped by a couple of nights of frankly batshit dreams. <side eyes subconscious> I mean WTAF were you thinking?!

We did get some rain in the week, but now I'm torn between wanting rain for the garden and not wanting rain because I've discovered a problem with the dining room roof

Welcome to the new tav cat ww! A home always feels better with a cat 😊

Fingers crossed the new bath installation all goes well Helen

Blimey apricot that is particular! Like Helen I'm just relieved everything is still alive when I get home.

Well done to Mr Letus on his race.

LetUsPrey · 24/08/2026 06:42

Morning wenches.

Oh look, Monday. Sigh.

Hope the roof issue is fixed quickly Fancy and the you can be happy for it to rain again. Batshit dreams can get in the bin.

Might suggest sitting down with DH to make a list of jobs that need doing in the house - new radiators, new staircase spindles, etc. Stuff definitely needs doing but urgh upheaval and relying on trades. Hope your plumber arrives on time Helen.

Suppose I’d best get on with the day.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/08/2026 08:31

Morning all. Plumbers are here - it's actually one of DH's SportingFriends, so fingers crossed all will go well. There are buildery noises upstairs, which will make working fun when I get there. First I need to do a taxi run for car services.

Argh at your roof Fancy - what a pain. Hope it turns out to be an easily solvable problem.

The BoringListOfJobs (as opposed to the EntertainingListofHBFs) is a very good idea LetUs - I always mean to have a smaller scale version for me to consult at weekends if I'm having a 'what next' moment. Obviously I'm never that organised.

Have a good day all.

ApricotCrush · 24/08/2026 17:07

Nice day, sunny intervals and quite warm.

Hope everything went well with the plumber Helen. There’s a reel somewhere on FB about not knowing what to do with yourself when there’s a workman in the house, and that’s me. I hate it.

I know what you mean LetUs, it can be exhausting. My mum and her older sister both lived to 97 and I did quite a lot for them both for years. Mum had dementia and Auntie was very sharp mentally but frail. I used to jump every time the phone rang wondering what I was going to be asked to do next. Well done to MrLetUs.

Hope the roof problem isn’t too serious Fancy.

LetUsPrey · 24/08/2026 21:17

Evening wenches.

If any of us siblings get a call from parents (usually mother) outside of reasonable hours, say after 9pm, she always starts the conversation with “now there’s no panic” and then usually asks if I can buy her a lettuce or something on the way to theirs the next day, which I’m more than happy to do once my heart rate has returned to normal 😁

Also really don’t like having tradespeople in the house because of the not knowing what to do with yourself thing. Even the very lovely chap who comes to service the alarm has me either hovering nearby or hiding in the living room but with the tv volume low so I can hear if he shouts me for anything.

Hope bathroom work has gone at the appropriate speed Helen.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/08/2026 21:40

Evening. Bathroom work is doing the usual thing of opening cans of worms as they go - the reason our bath has never drained very well is because when it was installed, the water drained out into an upwards-sloping pipe. WTF previous plumber! Also, some pipes were slightly cracked so just as well we've had them looked at and replaced.

Other than that - work (in the room next door to the bathroom, so I got to listen in on all the commentary). Also DS being a grotty teen about applying for another job to run on from when the current one finishes. Hmm

The Kittens have pretty much cracked using the cat flap now - hurrah!

Morning wenches.

That’s one of the big dreads when work’s being done. The finding of other problems that also need sorting. Clever kittens! <side eyes at MiniHelen>

Can’t seem to get going this morning. I shall give myself a good talking to.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/08/2026 09:45

Morning. I have got going, in as much as washing it out on the line and I've done a session on the stepper. Next is work. It's warm and sunny out, and quite breezy, so a good drying day. I seem to have aggravated my shoulder again, so back off to the Physio in a couple of weeks. Sad

Aramis has volunteered to give you a talking to LetUs Grin

Afternoon. Lovely day. I wish I’d done some washing but the forecast didn’t look too good.

Sympathy with the plumbing problems Helen, hope it’s sorted soon. Well done to the kittens.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 25/08/2026 21:44

Evening wenches.

Sorry, what? What was that that was said? I er … I wasn’t listening 😁

No washing put outside which was good as it rained. That was about as exciting as the day got.

Good luck with the physio Helen. I found some quite simple shoulder exercises on an NHS website. Haven’t done them needless to say.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/08/2026 22:11

Evening all. The bath is done and will be ready to use tomorrow (once the sealant has all set). Hurrah!

We didn't have rain so the washing all got dry - another hurrah. Though it means I'm still watering the plats of course, just not as much as I was during the mad hot weather.

The shoulder exercises I have are simple, and very boring. But today my shoulder hurts too much to do that sort of thing. Tomorrow will be better. Hopefully.
