New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Argh Fancy Sad sorry Sad

In other 'argh' the kittens have been spayed and are behaving like complete arses. "Keep them quiet, and don't let them jump." Yeah, right. We tried keeping them in their big cage for a bit - Spot climbed the walls and hung off the roof like monkey bars. Slinky is completely thrown by the sight of Spot in her collar and keeps jumping like a loon and going full bottlebrush tail, which scares Spot who scrabbles over whatever is in her way and runs for cover... They also want their collars off. I've putt hem back on several times.
I. Am. Exhausted. (And they've only been back for an hour.)

Other than that, I've been back to MorningExerciseClass, done vast amounts of watering in the oppressively hot weather, and have been chasing my tail (and kittens) for the past 3 hours since I started typing this Confused

Glad to hear that MrA has safely finished the current round of chainsawing.

Sending ice cream and air blades to all wenches.

Evening wenches.

Temperature shot up quite unexpectedly during the day so it was a bit of a surprise when I left the office at 5 with my coat on. Couldn’t be bothered to carry it though so I was quite warm by the time I got to the car.

Big ouch at big bites Fancy. I wonder if we sat next to each other in an outside situation our bug attraction (positive) would combine to make bug repellent (negative). That’s science that is. Or possibly not.

MrA up a tree with a chainsaw cutting off a massive branch. Yep, that all sounds completely fine.

Keep the kittens from jumping? Were you supposed to put them in lead boots? Ankle weights perhaps? Matching exercise headband? Too far, I’ve gone too far 😁

Perhaps it’s best if I sit here quietly and watch Sewing Bee.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/07/2026 21:38

LOL LetUs - lead boots might have been the way to go. Also, FFS - IdiotKitty has come in, seen the KittensInCollars and gone into full growly, back arched, bottle-brush tail, "What Is This Horror?" mode. FML, cats are stupid. I picked Slinky up and over to see him, and he was too busy looking behind me for The Thing to notice that 'The Thing' was just Slinky.
Words fail me.

Morning wenches.

IdiotKitty living up to the moniker there.

More mad dreams. Definitely warmer today so there’s a wash out already and I can hopefully get another out before I go.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/07/2026 09:43

Morning all. Woke up with visual migraine so fed the Fur&Feathers and went back to bed. Back up now and heading for work, because they have aircon!
Spot has had her collar off repeatedly, so I thin we just have ot keep an eye on her wound. And maybe cut holes in socks for her legs and give her a body sock!

Have a good day all.

ApricotCrush · 29/07/2026 16:47

Afternoon. Hot with sunny intervals. I should have done a wash load and didn't. We've been sitting outside this afternoon and both made stupid mistakes with sudokus and failed miserably.

Oh Helen, that sounds a nightmare with the kittens and IdiotKitty. Hope it's calmed down a bit now.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 29/07/2026 20:54

Evening wenches.

Ooo Apricot that feeling of being cross with yourself for being stupid with a sudoku. Have you stopped muttering at yourself about it yet?

Just picturing Spot in a bodycon dress 😁

Work was a bit on the frustrating side at times. Have you done xyz yet? Well, I figured out what we needed (because you’d not made that clear), and prepped all the forms, and sent them to the client yesterday to sign and return. Okay - but we really could do with getting xyz quite soon (said with the attitude of the delay being my fault). Righto then, I’ll pop round to the client’s house and stand over them whilst they sign the forms shall I?

So I’m relaxing now whilst crocheting a unicorn lovey blanket.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/07/2026 22:26

Evening all. Felt like a long day, despite going in late Confused. It's been absolutely roasting hot here too.

I was also annoyed with myself for doing stupid things, though at work rather than sudoku. Miscoded stuff mostly. Urgh. I used to have a brain you know...

DS and GF have been out to watch a film today ('Obsession' - really good film, do not recommend, he says!) and she's here overnight. Both kittens have their collars off, and aren't bothered about the wounds as far as we can tell. Fingers crossed. Slinky escaped outside because DH assumed she was asleep when we went out the patio door. <sigh>

LetUsPrey · 30/07/2026 06:43

Morning wenches.

Slinky’s skills in seizing an opportunity ever outside are becoming legendary!

Quite dark this morning. We’ve had some rain overnight and it’s definitely cooler today.

Errands to run before work so I’d better get a move on.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 30/07/2026 09:58

Morning all. Roasting hot here again, thought we may well get cloud cover later, and maybe a little drizzle if we're very good. Fingers crossed. Out this afternoon to meet friends (that's when we'll get drizzle I expect!)

OP posts:
FancyFancy · 30/07/2026 11:52

Morning. Why am I not surprised the kittens are causing issues with their collars 😁 p when they're that cute you can forgive anything. Unless you're KillerKitty of course.

Fingers crossed for your promised drizzle Helen

A double whammy of annoying colleagues and annoying clients letus? Very frustrating

I feel your pain with the sudokus apricot, so irritating when you muck up. I didn't use to like doing online sudokus until I found one that let me make annotations that suited me and now I'm a convert as I can muck those up and just restart 😁

Antibiotics seem to have really kicked in now - arm is back to normal size and I no longer look like someone has punched me in the eye!

ApricotCrush · 30/07/2026 16:55

Afternoon. Cloudy for most of the day and we had a very short shower this morning, but it’s brightened up now.

DD wants me to do a photo book for her special birthday next month and we’ve been picking the pics she wants. It’s a much bigger job than we thought as I have thousands of photos, so we’ll have to have a number of sessions. I’ve never done one before and have no idea how it works. Confused

Those online sudokus sound interesting Fancy, I’ll have a look. I normally just scribble over them when I go wrong. DH tries to find his mistake but I don’t have the patience for that.

Work does sound frustrating LetUs, hope today has been better. Also hope the kittens have been behaving themselves,

LetUsPrey · 30/07/2026 20:40

Evening wenches.

Work. Hmmm yes. Never mind.

We also had rain this morning. Not cold though and I didn’t need a coat when we walked to the polling station (mayoral stuff).

Excellent news that the antibiotics are doing their job Fancy.

i’m sure there are sudokus on the BBC website, and I like the Lovatts site. It’s got cryptic crosswords too.

I’m absolutely knackered, legs are very tired for some reason. Haven’t been hiking or anything.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 30/07/2026 22:47

Rain wenches!!!! Rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proper big ploppy drops and been going for nearly an hour! Whoop!

Anyway, evening all. Had a lovely afternoon out with friends - lots of lovely chat and nibbles.

Glad to hear that the antibiotics have kicked in Fancy. The kittens have their post-op check-up tomorrow, moved from Saturday, so I'll have to take an early lunch.

I've done a couple of photo books Apricot - the ones where you upload the photos and then put them into a layout in a book. Relatively easy, from what I remember, but it was painful uploading the pictures with our rubbish internet. I'm sure yours will be much better.

I'll send HBFs to give your legs a rub LetUs Grin

Morning wenches.

Quite sunny this morning. Makes a pleasant change that I don’t have to put lights on when I get up.

Hurrah for rain Helen! Here’s to more, but not too much all at once.

Legs feel mysteriously better 😁

Hurrah also for Friday!

Have super days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 31/07/2026 17:42

Afternoon. Nice sunny day, unfortunately no rain here. Lots of washing done. I did a Sainsbury shop this morning and forgot to get cards for the DC to sign for their uncle. I still seem to be in charge of family cards but if I didn't get them they wouldn't be sent.

Hope the kittens' check-ups went well.

Have a good evening all.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 31/07/2026 20:11

Evening all. Rubbish night's sleep last night - partly my fault for being late to bed. So I crawled out of bed this morning with barely enough time to do the chores before logging into work.

Had a fairly horrible day of trying to balance or identify causes of unbalanced accounts, complete with a fuzzy brain. <sigh> Kittens are all signed off by the vet unless they have an actual problem - hurrah! Then we have to teach them how to use the catflap Hmm

DS is out at work so I'll need to stay up and fetch him.

Fingers crossed for a good weekend for everyone.

LetUsPrey · 31/07/2026 22:04

Evening wenches.

Sunny, rain, wind at various points throughout the day.

Can relate re the cards Apricot.

I’m thinking Slinky will look at Spot using the cat flap and think “ha, amateur, who needs that little door?”

Caught a bit of TOTP 2000 earlier. How is Kelis’s Caught Out There 26 years old?

FancyFancy · 31/07/2026 22:10

Rain? Am very jealous Envy
Glad to hear the kittens have had a successful check up.

Have been enjoying this evenings Commonwealth Games coverage - helped by Jonnie Peacock looking very handsome tonight. Even with a man bun. He's just been quite outspoken about doping bans - well more so than most pundits - effectively questioning whether they are long enough. My crush has grown 😁

LetUsPrey · 01/08/2026 07:44

Morning wenches.

Oh Jonnie, just when we thought you couldn’t be even more fabulous (like that’s even been a thought 😁)

We have more rain which is an observation and very much not a complaint. It’s clearing up a bit now though which would be helpful for the washing.

Meeting BestFriend this morning. Was going to collect a prescription but I’ve not had a text to say it’s ready. I can manage for another week.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 01/08/2026 12:17

Morning Afternoon all. Work up with a banging headache this morning (stuck sunglasses on to go out and feed livestock because it was all too bright, even at 7:30), but the drugs seem to have worked. Though my head does still feel a bit fuzzy. I feel like lying down somewhere and snoozing for the rest of the day.

Hurrah for Jonnie taking no nonsense about doping cheats.

Hope everywench has alovely day

Afternoon.

A week off work, yay. Fell asleep on the couch yesterday and also took a little nap today after lunch. Have lots of fun stuff planned, like a mammogram and the yearly auto service (?) Grin

Seen some pics online of Ryan Gosling looking all ruggedly handsome, I'm not that into blondes but I'm willing to do an exception😋

Yay for meet up Fancy and Helen Smile

Glad everything went well with MrApes and the chainsaw Apes.

Hope you have a good time today with best friend Letus.

I'm off to make some waffles 😋

FancyFancy · 01/08/2026 15:29

Got to love a holiday snooze ww 😁 I'm not usually one for blonds either, but variety is the spice of life.......

I hope the headache completely fucks off Helen and you get your nap

Enjoy your meet up this morningletus and see if you can persuade the rain to come down here, via apricot if at all possible.

Remembered that I had quite a bit of money built up in a cash back site and treated myself to a carpet cleaner - the excitement 🤣 Am going to try it out this afternoon.

ApricotCrush · 01/08/2026 17:35

Afternoon. Another day of sunny intervals and no rain. Sad I’ve also had a headache all day, in spite of paracetamol, so not much has been done. Someone’s shooting in the field over the road which isn’t helping. Hope yours has gone Helen.

Yay for kittens being signed off, Jonnie, carpet cleaner and BestFriend meet-up, but boo for mammogram and car service.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

<pinches one of WW’s waffles <nae>>

FancyFancy · 01/08/2026 18:36

Just cleaned one of the bedroom carpets - one of the DC's that is really bad - some parts will never look good so I can't say it looks marvellous, but I think it looks better overall, and when I get round to actually putting a bed in there, that should cover up the worst part of the carpet. But OMG, the colour of the water 😱😳
