New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Evening all. It has been a long and tiring but fun day. Travel was fine, though getting from train station to venue - FML, the signage was crap and we went wrong in both directions. Plus got caught up with crowds from a different event and venue and thought we'd miss our train home at one point. It made it all far more stressful than it needed to be. Done now though.

Came home to DS demanding that the spare room be rearranged to make his x-boxing easier <sigh> The problem is he wants everything done now, so DH and I try to work methodically, and DS just launches in and trying to move thing about when there's nowhere to put it. I reined him in and we got the main things done that he that wanted sorted.

We actually had some... well, it wasn't really rain. We got damped on, briefly. It was hot in the sun though, so I know what you mean LetUs

Hope Fancy enjoyed her day out; safe travels tomorrow Apricot

Morning wenches.

That all sounds a bit much Helen, the travel confusion and then the room rearranging on top of it. Hope you get chance for a rest at some point today and a bit of a recharge.

I expect today will be a usual Sunday but with extra Sunday return to work blahs having been off for a week.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 19/07/2026 13:03

Afternoon all. Sunny and windy here. Have had cousin and mini-cousin visiting this morning, which was lovely. Off to meet friends at a beer festival shortly.

Evening wenches.

Hope you had an enjoyable afternoon Helen 😊

Sunday has been the usual visiting etc. Have done some knitting and crocheting and also some reading. A rather lovely Sunday in all.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 19/07/2026 20:07

Evening. Why is it Monday tomorrow?!

Had a fab day today roaming the countryside with a friend, including two coffee breaks, with cake obviously, and lunch consisting of a galette with smoked salmon and goats cheese and we also visited two flea markets.

Hope you had a good time at the beer festival Helen 🍺

Glad you had a lovely Sunday Letus.

Fräsan agrees that it's very important that a cat's demands is met when on vacation Grin

I have a very important question Fancy, what kind of take away was it?

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 19/07/2026 23:00

Evening. Beer festival was fun, apart from the dire 'live music' which ended up as 'drunk idiots do karaoke' Confused We hid from it inside where it was a little bit quieter. Washing also got done, and dried on the line while we were out.

DH is currently cackling away at something online and not watching the football that he's got on TV. I shall leave him to it and go to bed.

Sympathies on the returns to work post-holiday - sending positive thoughts and HBFs.

Morning wenches.

Countryside, two coffee breaks with cake, and lunch - that’s definitely a fab day out Wicked!

Many sympathies on the music front Helen. Glad the festival element was good.

Monday is it? Back to work is it? I shall gird everything in anticipation of the day ahead. At least the traffic should be quieter I suppose.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 20/07/2026 10:04

Moring. I have done many chores and am working now (as is the dishwasher and washing machine). Whoop.

Hope everyone has a decent Monday.
<sends HBFs to do girding, which I feel probably involves reinforcing via chains, or similar.>

Afternoon. We got back yesterday evening after a longer than usual journey as we seemed to be stuck behind a series of lorries. Lovely sunny day today and I’ve cleared all the washing.

I spent the morning trying to arrange the house insurance which was as frustrating as these things usually are, but it’s done now. I’m currently trying to do a 12-square sudoku which I’ve never done before and it’s sending me cross-eyed. Hmm

Sounds as if everyone had a nice Sunday. Hope work has been as good as it can be.

LetUsPrey · 20/07/2026 20:14

Evening wenches.

I do enjoy whips and chains, sorry I meant WIPs and CHNs (works in progress and chains) as I am obviously referring to crochet and nothing else 😁

12 square sudoku Apricot?! Blimey. I’m sure you’ve completed it because you are wench.

Work had some “interesting” developments happen whilst I was off. Seeing how things progress. It’s nice to get home and watch a Murder, She Wrote to see Jessica Fletcher taking no site from an arrogant pillock of a man.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 20/07/2026 21:21

Hurrah for doing all the washing Apricot I got two loads through the machine as well. DH does mad interlinked sudokus, not sure about a 12 square one though!

I was absolutely wabbit after work today - finished at 4 and fell asleep on the sofa with kittens asleep on me. Then cooked tea since DH DS and GF were out clearing up the garden (the manshapes chopped down some dead trees on Sunday which needed chopping up and chipping.).

Hope the work 'developments' áre positive LetUs.

LetUsPrey · 21/07/2026 06:48

Morning wenches.

Not surprised you fell asleep on the sofa Helen.

Work stuff is positive on the whole for everyone, although there are definite downsides for NC and I in that we have an enforced room move, but it’s a way off so who knows, plans may change.

Quite dull here today. Traffic was much quieter yesterday, particularly in the morning, which was very welcome.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/07/2026 09:31

Morning all. Cloudy outside, garden has been watered, animals fed. Nothing exciting happening (hurrah!) I need to do more washing though. <sigh>

Fingers crossed for work stuff staying positive!

ApricotCrush · 21/07/2026 16:38

Afternoon. Nice sunny day but cooler which is welcome. No rain in sight until the weekend possibly. I did finish the 12-square sudoku after I got my brain in gear. Hmm

Hope the room change won’t inconvenience you and NC LetUs although as you say it’s some time away.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 21/07/2026 20:07

Evening wenches.

There’s a lot to be said for no excitement isn’t there Helen? 😁

If I were you Apricot, I’d be feeling pretty smug about completing that sudoku.

Highlight of the day was ordering some clothes for me and DS2. The anti-highlight may well come in a few days when I have to return at least some of them and I will mutter about this is why I don’t like shopping online grumble grumble.

FancyFancy · 21/07/2026 21:56

Evening
Cooler here too, but still no rain - it's all looking a bit 1976 out there. Only plus so far is everything is so crispy out there that I heard some really loud rustling one evening - went out to investigate & found a large hedgehog hunting slugs on my patio.

Work is meh, today's highlight being IT problems, getting stuff done was like wading through treacle.

Apologies for the travel chaos on Saturday helen that was my crowd you got caught up in Grin

12 square sudoku apricot - now that sounds both daunting and an irresistible challenge.

Any chance it will be to a nicer room letus? <clings to small hope>

It was a Greek takeaway ww, specifically a naked lamb gyro, it was honestly one of the most delicious meals I've had in aaaages <drools>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/07/2026 22:34

Evening all. I am having and early night- can you tell? Hmm Well, there's nothing left to do other than actually go up to bed - I've done the litter tray and tomorrow sandwiches. In the other order, with hand washing as well.

Was sunny eventually, but cooler today. I worked a fair bit and had a long blether with a friend. Um. Been reading this evening - I got Hamnet out of the library and lost it in the pile on the sofa, so it had better be worth the library fines Blush

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 22/07/2026 07:15

Morning wenches.

I think we have rain due from the weekend for a few days on and off over the course of next week. Hurrah for hedgehog! Which reminds me that I still have loads of newspapers to drop off at local hedgehog rescue charity woman.

Room unfortunately is not nicer than ours, not by much but it’ll be a lot warmer because it gets a lot more sun. Ah well.

I’ve started library reading again. Whizzed through A Case of Life and Limb by Sally Smith - very enjoyable. Hopefully even with any fines Helen it’ll still work out cheaper than buying it which is how I justify things in my head 😁

Suppose I’d better get on with the day.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/07/2026 07:45

Morning all. Cloudy and cool. IdiotKitty can't decide between in and out, and there's a chicken loose. <sigh>

Also, yes - hurrah for hedgehog. I see them so rarely these days Sad Though they murderous little sods (one took a next of chicks once when I was small).

Afternoon. No sun today but no rain either. I did a Lidl shop this morning and they’ve moved stuff around again, so annoying. I went a walk round the road after and everyone’s lawn is brown. It is beginning to look like 1976 Fancy. Google says don’t bother to water the lawn, it will go dormant and will bounce back when we get rain.

Hope loose chicken was caught and everyone’s day has been as stress-free as possible.

LetUsPrey · 22/07/2026 21:34

Evening wenches.

Massive 🙄 at supermarket moving stuff round again. It doesn’t make us buy more you know, it just annoys us.

Is the loose chicken (which does make it sound a bit like a chicken of dubious morals) back safely in the coop?

Work was standard. Was nice to sit out for a bit when I got home. I’ve almost finished the back of the cardigan I’m making! Had to stop for tonight as it’s quite dark yarn and it’s tricky to see it properly without natural light. Just the two fronts, two sleeves, the neck band and button band, and then sewing it up to go!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/07/2026 23:02

Evening all. The loose chicken <nlt> had skipped out of the coop while I was cleaning it out this morning, so she could lay an egg in her current favourite spot. I didn't have time to wait around for her, so got on with breakfast etc, when she came to the back door before I left so I scooped her up back into the run. DH let them all out again later.

Work was workish - very tired. Last night's vaguely early night way kyboshed by DS deciding to bring Idiot(Happy)Up and onto our bed for fuss and cuddles. Lovely, but also not conducive to sleep.

The lawn will bounce back as soon as we get a sensible amount of rain. <side-eyes at forecast showing less and less rain and the forecast moves closer>

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 23/07/2026 07:14

Morning wenches.

Maddest of dreams so not exactly feeling rested.

I love that the chicken came to the back door as if to say “right I’ve done now, can you put me back please”.

Air feels damp this morning but no actual rain. Our forecast seems to show rain this weekend and next, but dry during the week. Obviously.

Must get on.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/07/2026 14:24

Afternoon all. Forgot to post this morning. Not that there was anything interesting to say of course.

Warm again outside with some sun and cloud. Washing is on the line. Did I say that DS got a part time job at a local pub? That's exciting news Grin and the hours suit him down to the ground - no early starts and only 2-3 evenings a week, so very little impact on his social life. We do still have to taxi him there and back, though he could get thereon his bike at a push. Speaking of which, I need to replace a bolt on my bike. Laters...

ApricotCrush · 23/07/2026 17:16

Afternoon. Cloudy until lunchtime, but it’s gone sunny now. We’ve had DGS with us for some of the day. His Mum left him in bed and he phoned when he wanted fetching.

You’ve nearly finished the cardigan there LetUs. Wink

Congrats to MiniHelen on his part-time job. Both of ours worked in restaurants in their teens. Their mishaps were mortifying, from sitting in a vat of gravy to spilling trifle on someone’s bag. Grin DD learned silver service and still folds beautiful serviettes at Christmas.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.
