New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Morning all. We have cloud again, hurrah! Though still no rain - not expecting a sniff of that until the weekend.

In other news, tiiiiiiiiiired. (Not really 'news' - more like business as usual!)

Have a good day all.

<high fives fellow cardi wearer helen>
That was me yesterday evening - bliss Grin

I'll pass on the peas for my foot though - with my circulation I'd probably get frostbite - honestly I'm never happy! Am Envy at expecting rain at the weekend though - none on the forecast here and even some of the shrubs are starting to look at little distressed now.

Hope the blood donation goes well letus & enjoy those biscuits afterwards.

ApricotCrush · 14/07/2026 17:36

Afternoon from boiling hot Wales. The caravan is like an oven. We had to wait until Misty went to sleep on the bed after her exhausting journey to open the windows and doors in the lounge. I’ve got two fans blowing on me. DH is changing the tap in the kitchen. The one we had was too low and you couldn’t get our kettle under it.

Yes, I’m a bit concerned about the shrubs and plants while we’re away. There’s no rain forecast for over a week, but DS is going to water every day so we’ll have to hope for the best.

Have a lovely evening all.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 14/07/2026 17:38

Frozen peas makes me think about that scene in Bridesmaids Grin

LetUsPrey · 14/07/2026 18:35

Evening wenches.

<sends extra fans to Apricot> poor exhausted Misty 😁

Still hot here. Think we’ve rain forecast next week but that will probably change.

Haven’t seen Bridesmaids but I’m going to have to google the peas connection.

They didn’t want my blood 😔. It was because I’d had the blood test yesterday. Mind you if I’d thought to check my NHS app before I set off I’d have seen the results were in and all’s fine. Muppet.

New series of Sewing Bee tonight.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/07/2026 22:56

Evening all. Rain isn't this weekend coming, it's the one after. Of course - because I have open air theatre plans again Hmm Though to be honest, that's two weeks ahead and some dangling seaweed would probably give just as accurate a forecast at this point.

I haven't seen Bridesmaids either, so I'm missing the Peas reference too. Speaking of which, I've just done my shoulder exercises and ought to ice it a bit. (Or just I feel rather hot and the idea of an ice pack is quite attractive!) I hope that caravan has cooled down a bit Apricot - do you take a cage so you can keep Misty secure, or can you shut her into one room while you open windows elsewhere?

Boring Office Job tomorrow, so I ought to get to bed really. <slouches up to hayloft>

Morning wenches.

Lovely and sunny again and I think the wind’s dropped too.

Fingers crossed that when the rain does come Helen it’s not on the open air theatre date.

Should take bag of charity stuff into town. I’ll do that either today or tomorrow.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 15/07/2026 08:10

Morning all, running late, argh etc!
Cloudy here at the moment but the sn's trying to break through.u

Afternoon. Still hot but there’s a nice breeze. It cooled down a lot overnight so sleeping wasn’t too bad. We went a walk to the beach and round the estuary this morning and it was really very pleasant.

Misty has a cage in the car but she would be appalled if we tried to put her in it at any other time. Shock She sleeps in an open case in the little bedroom in the day (her idea). We can shut the bedroom end when she’s asleep and open the doors and windows in the lounge/kitchen end. She’s got her food, water and tray so she’s fine.

I haven’t seen Bridesmaids either.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 15/07/2026 20:36

Evening wenches.

Another sunny day but not as stifling as it has been. Have almost finished the blanket I’ve been making.

Just picturing Misty giving you a list of acceptable domestic arrangements for holiday times, with non-negotiable stamped across it 😁

DH and DS2 are unsurprisingly watching the football. I’m staying out of the way.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 15/07/2026 23:38

Evening all. Have been out after work for food and football avoidance Grin
I think Misty presents a rider to Apricot any time they go anywhere - 'Salmon and chicken biscuits, but pick out all the Salmon ones." etc Grin
Truned sunny here too, but also not stupid hot, just stupid dry.

Morning wenches.

Poor DS2 was quite disappointed last night but he was over it quickly. Not sure that was the same for everyone given the increased number of sirens that could be heard afterwards. Probably just a coincidence 🤔

Today will be mostly hoping the bloody awful acid reflux I had from mid-afternoon onwards doesn’t come back. Also taking stuff to charity shop.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 16/07/2026 12:54

Morning all, or it was. Ho hum. I have spent the morning wasting time (falling down internet wormholes) and going back and forth to help Dad with computer stuff. I have not been productive. <le sigh>

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 16/07/2026 17:10

Afternoon. Still ridiculously hot and the wind has dropped which makes it feel hotter. We went for a shorter walk this morning to the lookout point on the dunes and that was enough.

We watched the match but it was a bit of an anti-climax, although not unexpected.

Hope your acid reflux didn’t come back LetUs. I take lanzoprazole which is very helpful but would you believe I’ve forgotten to bring them with me.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 16/07/2026 19:40

Evening wenches.

You were productive in a way Helen.

Acid reflux has not returned today thankfully. Bit nervy after each meal but 🤞🏻all was okay.

That’s a bit of a bugger forgetting the medication Apricot. Hopefully it’s something you only take as needed?

Still as hot but I think it’s dropping a bit from tomorrow.

Have made progress on the cardigan I’m knitting (for me), and have started another blanket. I’m trying out a new crochet stitch with a new yarn and it’s looking rather lovely so I might keep this one for myself!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 16/07/2026 21:28

Hurrah for no acid reflux LetUs, and Boo to the stupid hot weather at the caravan.

Not much to report really. There was yet more back and forth sorting out IT issues, and I finally got some work done. Slinky and Spot escaped upstairs this evening while I was working - IdiotKitty was chirruping but not coming to see me, so I went to see what the matter was - two small agents of chaos on the loose! Slinky has also been out yet again but DH caught her - phew.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 17/07/2026 07:16

Morning wenches.

Slinky is very impressive! Although ahem not really because escaping outside is not good obviously. Obviously.

Quite cloudy so far. Out for lunch with BestFriend is the extent of my plans for the day.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 17/07/2026 09:12

Morning all. Slinky lives up to her name!

Hurrah for Friday, though we're out tonight and I'm starting the day feeling tired, which isn't great. Ho hum...

Have a good day all.

ApricotCrush · 17/07/2026 16:04

Afternoon. A bit cooler today and there’s a nice breeze, so we were able to sit out on the decking. It’s been too hot even in the shade. I do take the tablets for acid reflux every night but I’ve been alright so far. Makes me wonder if I actually need them now.

You are busy with the knitting LetUs, I must start something when we get back.

Have lovely evenings all.

LetUsPrey · 17/07/2026 18:25

Evening wenches.

Lunch was jolly nice. Temperature just right to sit out in the shade. Excellent chatting with BestFriend but DH is on both drop off and pick up for DS2’s SportingActivity 😁

Hopefully you’ve got a second wind Helen and you’ll have a fab time tonight.

I think if I have a repeat soon of Wednesday’s unpleasantness, I’ll ask the GP whether I need anything.

Definitely get knitting something Apricot, although possibly not anything too bulky at the moment!

FancyFancy · 17/07/2026 21:30

Evening, another busy week, but mercifully cooler nights which was welcome.

Had a belated birthday meal with DS in the week - well a takeaway at his flat while watching France v Spain, DD was there too. Very nice evening, his flat is looking lovely already and the takeaway was sooo good.

Tomorrow is the athletics, must remember water and suncream!

Am most impressed the kittens get out as little as they do Helen, cats are such good escape artists!

Am also loving the mental picture of Misty and her travel arrangements 😁

That was a bugger about the blood donation letus, I hope you still had tea and biscuits when you got home?

LetUsPrey · 18/07/2026 06:45

Morning wenches.

What a lovely way to spend an evening Fancy! Cordial and crisps (probably) bit definitely the same vibe 😁

Looks to be sunny again today. There’s a wash out and another on the go. Nothing in particular planned for today.

Have great days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 18/07/2026 10:18

Morning all. Work yesterday was work, though could have done without a 4pm phone call asking about various finance spreadsheets, when I've been telling this person for weeks to put something my diary! Ho hum.

Gig was good, but forgot ear plugs. I didn't know the first band's music other than a couple, but there was lots of singing along and arm waving with the first one Grin Bit of a late night though, and am off out again imminently for a day out with Dad. The train is involved so I can have a snooze on route.

Cakes have been baked, but no washing is on. It's cloudy at the mo, and we may have had a few drops of drizzly rain overnight. I'm sure it will all burn off to sun shortly.

Hope everyone has a good day and the athletics go well.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 18/07/2026 16:57

Afternoon. Still very hot but with a stronger wind today. We’re going out later as I’ve run out of meals, and we’re going back home tomorrow as DH has jobs he wants to do in the garden.

Hope everyone’s having a nice day.

LetUsPrey · 18/07/2026 20:02

Evening wenches.

That all sounds very tiring Helen. <helps self to cake>

Hope you’re having a nice evening Apricot. Safe travels home tomorrow.

Weather could not make up its mind at all today. Changed from shorts into jeans today, but later, when sitting outside, moved the sun lounger into the shade as the sun came out and seemed to be making up for lost time for the day! Got all the washing done so there’s that.
