New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

I'm too hot and tired to type coherent posts, or think of anything interesting anyway. Work was vaguely productive though.

I've got a load of end-dated strawberries in the fridge that I need to blend and freeze and I can't be bothered.

We have football on TV. Tedium! Slinky is asleep on me, which isn't making me feel any cooler.

Morning wenches.

It’s so energy-sapping isn’t it? Can’t imagine the football helped 😁

Supposed to hotter than yesterday which does not sound fun.

<sets fans to full>

Have super days wenches.

FancyFancy · 10/07/2026 09:02

Morning. Blimey it was warm last night, I am officially done with this, the house is barely cooling down overnight. Office aircon is welcome but not a solution over the weekend! The jobs at home are mounting up but I can't see much getting done over the weekend as it'll still be hot. I've just about got the energy to water the plants and go mozzies exterminating each evening. Speaking of which, time to apply the bite cream.

Have good days everyone......

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 10/07/2026 13:12

My cake vanished quickly, how strange Hmm Seriously, there's nothing better than leftover cake.

Haven't done much during my time off, only a bit of cleaning, clearing out some stuff, read a book, watched a ton of telly, did some jigsaws. Back to work on Monday Confused

Oooh, Highlander, what a masterpiece Grin

I hardly ever find anything in charity shops but we have an excellent car boot sale every Sunday during the summer, it's huge, and you can make great finds there.

Fräsan has also developed an interest for the outdoors, she wasn't before but cortisone can change their behavour, but she stays just outside the door.

I have no idea what is going on in the World Cup except that Sweden's out.

ApricotCrush · 10/07/2026 15:46

Afternoon. I’ve had enough of this. I filled the lines with washing this morning and have done nothing since. It’s exhausting.

Your holiday seems to have gone quickly WW. Sounds like you’ve had a nice relaxing time.

Highlander seems to have passed me by, I’ll have to see if I can find it somewhere.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 10/07/2026 20:58

Evening wenches.

Agree that the hot can well and truly do one. I think my hair is melting.

Sounds a very enjoyable way to spend a holiday Wicked. I like Fräsan’s approach to going outside. Just by the door is fine for me thanks.

<restocks Tav with supplies of bite relief and antihistamines>

Highlander was very much of the 1980s 😁. Love it! They’re doing a remake which is apparently in post-production - Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe. The original came out in 1986, which was the same year as A Room With A View which I absolutely love. I was at a very impressionable age 😁

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/07/2026 21:42

Evening all. Didn't I post this morning #Flake. I had to taxi DS out to spend a lot of the day helping at SportingActivity, and forgot. It has been hot and I'm tired - though at least the evenings are now cool - trying to get the cool air through the house is another matter, I have been dozing on the sofa, covered in kittens.
Oh - saw the physio and I have tendonopathy in the shoulder cuff. No, I'm not sure either, but I have exercises and need to carry on what I'm already doing in terms of avoiding things that hurt!
Shock at Apricot not seeing Highlander. Classic film - very cheesy in places with an excellent soundtrack. And the Shaun Connery being Shaun Connery. DH even says the swordplay <nae> isn't dire Grin I also have v.fond memories of a Room with a View. <happy sigh>
Wicked's holiday sounds fab. - three weeks of chilling out. Bliss.

Morning wenches.

Sun is shining, washing is go, flapjacks are go. Off to NearbyVillage with DS2 to run errands this morning, and then I plan to watch the men’s doubles final. Out for dinner tonight with DH. There will also be knitting and crochet (shocker!)

Tendonopathy sounds fairly unpleasant Helen.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/07/2026 10:09

Morning all. It's lovely and cloudy and not baking hot - hurrah! I have googled tendinopathy (and know how to spell it now!) and looked at my three pages of exercises, and and wilting at the though of adding that into my day. Still, needs must. DS is off to meet GF later, and I don't think we have any plans - other than waiting for his summons to fetch him/them. And doing 3 pages of exercises Confused

Have a lovely day all!

ApricotCrush · 11/07/2026 17:29

Afternoon. Still ridiculously hot. I’ve just cut the chicken up for a batch of curry and that’s drained me.

Your shoulder sounds painful Helen. DH still hasn’t had the result of his MRI on his.

Hope everyone has a good evening and have a lovely meal LetUs.

LetUsPrey · 11/07/2026 20:28

Evening wenches.

<rolls in> So. Much. Food. I’ll be needing a nap now.

I hope you’re better at doing your exercises than I am Helen. Couldn’t be any worse.

Errands were mostly successful this morning and the rest of the day was mostly too hot to do anything.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/07/2026 23:30

Evening all.Am trying to type with Slinky on my lap between me and the keyboard. Bit tricky.

We've had a 2-hour game of Cards Against Humanity this evening - much fun was had, and DS's GF is now having an impromptu sleepover. Football is on - I'm paying no attention. Good results in the tennis today though.

I did try some of the exercises LetUs, and the stopped, because 'ouch' Sad

Am very grateful that we had cooler weather today - got lots done in the garden, though the washing went out late and didn't dry. (It's being darked on outside.)

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 12/07/2026 06:52

Morning wenches.

Is very frustrating when the thing that’s supposed to make you better is also painful. Doesn’t seem fair.

I fell asleep just after the football started. Woke up after a bit and went to bed.

Ironing done. DS1 and his girlfriend are coming round today, and my parents are coming for lunch too. I doubt we’ll be sitting outside though 😁

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 12/07/2026 10:44

Morning all. Still a bit cloudy today, but also sun breaking through, so not as cool as yesterday. I think last night's washing is dry, though I haven't checked.

The manshapes both told me the football result last night when I was in bed, because I was obvs. that interested Hmm

Not much in the way of plans, apart from an open-air theatre thingy this afternoon.

LetUs - have you seen the Batch in Madonna's Confessions II video?

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 12/07/2026 17:27

Afternoon. Still hot but there’s a nice cool breeze so sitting out in the shade was very pleasant. We stopped up to watch the football and it was very nail-biting at the end but an excellent result.

I hate exercising. I know I should do it to keep everything moving, but it’s so boring.

Hope the open-air theatre was good Helen and LetUs enjoyed her entertaining.

FancyFancy · 12/07/2026 17:31

Afternoon, three pages of exercises Helen? Not an enticing prospect in this heat.

I thought I might fall asleep too letus, I was very drowsy by about 9pm, so I went outside to water some plants and the breeze perked me up - still hot here but quite a breeze which is an improvement.

That's interesting about the cortisone we - every day's a school day!

Making a curry is more than I've managed apricot, I wandered into town for a few groceries and treated myself to some new book in not-WHSmiths- anymore closing down sale - had to kill some time while waiting for the pharmacist as I needed antibiotics for an infected insect bite. What joy.

LetUsPrey · 12/07/2026 20:39

Evening wenches.

Standard Sunday with added viewing of Wicked: For Good. Enjoyable, personally could have lived without a couple/few songs but I don’t imagine I’m the target audience.

Hadn’t seen that video Helen but I’ve just watched it, mostly fast forwarding through it. Not sure about the Batch dancing 😁, not that he wasn’t good at it of course. And some of those outfits looked jolly uncomfortable. Hope theatre was good.

We’ve had a nice breeze too, it makes such a difference.

Eeek at infected insect bite Fancy! Nasty bitey feckers.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 12/07/2026 22:40

Evening all. Still horribly hot and stuff indoors, but outside has a lovely cool breeze and feels very civilised now! I was talking about getting the tent out and sleeping outside.

It was roasting this afternoon at the outdoor theatre thing - the poor performers were sweltering, and reduced their costumes in the second half on the basis that we'd rather they didn't keel over. No more jackets for them! It was very entertaining though - one of those shows with only 4 performers and everyone doing multiple roles/mad costume changes.

Ouch and Sad re. the bite Fancy I hope that calms down rapidly, they're a sod at the best of times, never mind when they get infected.

To be fair, the 3 pages of exercise, on closer inspection are three stages of a programme, so I'm only meant to do the first page to start with, and there are only 3 per page. Though "Do this for 20 seconds, 15 times.." Shock how much time in the day do they think I have?! As noted above - boring and also slightly painful at times. DH bought me some cheap peas to use as a post-exercise icepack. Star for DH.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 13/07/2026 07:15

Morning wenches.

I can imagine there’d be that one person in the audience Helen who’d be like no actors, you must remain in full costume, I don’t care if you pass out, how dare you! Sounds a great way to spend an afternoon. Well done MrHelen for the cheap peas.

For the first time in ages I went back to sleep after waking up before 6, having been up around 3. Just as well DH was there to remind me I’ve got a blood test appointment at 7.50 and shouldn’t I be getting up. Whoops!

Off this week so woohoo!

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 13/07/2026 10:38

Morning all. Hurrah for getting back to sleep LetUs, and argh at the badly timed blood test!

Today we have cloud and a cool breeze again. Hurrah!

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 13/07/2026 16:57

Afternoon. It started off cloudy with a cool wind, but it's warmed up again this afternoon.

Your bite sounds painful Fancy, hope the antibiotics work soon.

Shame you had to get up for the blood test LetUs. These things are never timed well.

Good idea about the peas for an ice-pack. Well done to MrHelen.

We're going to the caravan tomorrow. It looks a bit cooler there later in the week which will be welcome, as it gets very hot in the van. I haven't started packing so I'd better get going.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 13/07/2026 19:01

Evening wenches.

Well I thought it was getting a tiny bit cooler but no, we’re back to stupid hot. I know that I shouldn’t complain too much but just a degree or two cooler would help.

Blood test done so just need to wait for the result to appear on the NHS app which will say all’s fine and I won’t then remember to contact surgery to say right well that didn’t show anything so what’s going on.

Had highlights and haircut today. Very very happy with the result.

Safe travels for tomorrow Apricot and hope it’s cooler for you.

FancyFancy · 13/07/2026 20:33

Evening

Yay for being happy with the haircut letus but boo to increased heat, we still have a strong breeze here. Quite refreshing, but a worry if there were to be a wildfire.

Yay for MrH and his peas - we always had a spare pack for DC bumps when they were smaller. Had to remember which was the spare pack though to avoid eating a peas that had repeatedly been defrosted 🤣

Safe travels apricot I hope you find cooler weather.

My foot looked rather better this morning thanks, although it got a bit itchier after mowing the lawn - hopefully that was just because it got hot from actually being in socks and shoes.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 13/07/2026 21:26

Evening all. It was cloudy and cool and breezy here all day - I even wore jeans and a cardy on top of my t-shirt because it wasn't hot!

Excellent news on the successful haircut, and fingers crossed for the caravan being pleasantly warm, and not baking hot! Would you like to borrow the peas for your foot Fancy?

We're watching the Graham Norton/Madonna video. I'm Shock - her face is just like moulded plastic, she's botoxed the life out of it!

Slinky has been escaping again... Confused I caught up with her round the side of the house this evening. Sodding kitten. <sigh>

Morning wenches.

Here’s to quick recovery of the bite Fancy. 😁 at previously defrosted/never defrosted peas game.

Jeans and a cardy Helen?! Blimey. I’d give Slinky a stern look but it would have no effect whatsoever 😁

Already sunny here. Pottering about this morning, donating blood this afternoon.

Have great days wenches.
