What would your worst job be?

I don't mean practically impossible things like flying an aroplane, but things that ordinary people do with enjoyment.
Mine would be taking in ironing, and dog walking.
What would yours be?

Any childcare - I love my own but I was a nanny many year’s ago and I just don’t enjoy looking after other people’s kids in any capacity.

Old people care - I looked after my mother while she was ill until she passed away - absolutely no way I could do the things I had to do for her for anyone else.

The really awful ones where people start retreating backwards from you when you tell them - abbattoir, bailiff, tv licence goon.

Social work - I’d be too full of rage and never have a good night’s sleep.

I have so much respect for anyone who works in healthcare (and who enjoys it) but I couldn’t ever do it.

I recently got chatting to a healthcare assistant in hospital and she said she genuinely enjoys helping patients to get clean and comfortable. If that means wiping bums, cleaning up sick and everything else in between, she gets a lot of satisfaction from helping people to feel better. She deserves a medal!

Wow those picking teaching as their worst job - hope you’re therefore grateful for those teaching your kids

thank god for the teachers who do it for the love of the job, about all they got

Think they’d be grateful for a
payrise

not a medal

Dentist. I'd rather work in the sewers, honestly.

Nobumsonthetable · 18/12/2025 16:59

So many of these 😂. Anything involving dirt, mud, bad smells, cold or heat or outdoors. I could tolerate teaching or childcare if I had to but not care work or nursing. Basically I seem to have evolved into Homo Office 😂

Best job ever! Been doing it 30 years and no plans to retire any time soon. For me being a carer, retail of any kind, sales.

You obviously have a talent for it.
I most certainly do not!
How to be an inspiring teacher is a complete mystery to me.

I find it fascinating how everyone is so different from each other!

MagpieCastle · 18/12/2025 17:05

Anything that involves working in a Google inspired open plan office that resembles a giant kid's playground. Walking past people doing blue-sky thinking in a hammock or having a meeting around a ping pong table would quickly break through any last shreds of professionalism. I'd be chucked out by lunchtime for using the adult ballpit as an excuse to aim at anyone sporting a man bun, hipster beard or T shirt with an ironic slogan.

pilates · 18/12/2025 17:06

Teacher

Friendlyfart · 18/12/2025 17:09

Definitely anything involving other people’s bodily fluids. Sorry!
Anything where I’d be cold - so outside, basically.
Driving for a living.

Unforgettablefire · 18/12/2025 17:15

Funeral director or any of those in the profession of looking after deceased people. I have so much respect for them.

NotDarkGothicMama · 18/12/2025 17:18

Teaching, nursery worker or any job where I have to relentlessly interest/entertain children all day.

Nevereatcardboard · 18/12/2025 17:22

Window cleaner or roofer - I don’t like heights

zurigo · 18/12/2025 17:25

Nursing or care work of any kind. I absolutely HATE being around ill people and I'm just not very caring so it wouldn't work! 😆

Newsenmum · 18/12/2025 17:27

Cleaner. Id help as part of another job like support worker/carer but the idea of going into a hotel room say and doing their dirty bedclothes and toilets. 🤢 Obviously I would if I had to.

Also oil rig worker is terrifying.

Purplewarrior · 18/12/2025 17:27

Running a B and B. Cleaning and being nice to people. 😱

RandomUsernameHere · 18/12/2025 17:28

Chef, cleaner or housekeeper.

Newsenmum · 18/12/2025 17:29

Also a driving instructor

Ecrire · 18/12/2025 17:31

Dealing with

feet
poo
pee
Vomit
rubbish
blood
sewage
sex work

SomedayIllBeSaturdayNight · 18/12/2025 17:33

Anything where I had to make money for rich people, just couldn't bring myself to have any motivation for that!

epicpaydat · 18/12/2025 17:36

I’ve thought about this carefully and whilst making a very long list I basically think any job that deals with people outside of the company I work for.

SelfRaisingFlour · 18/12/2025 17:37

I saw some tree surgeons on my road climbing and pruning a 40 foot tree with chainsaws. Heights and power tools would be impossible for me.

MrsPositivity1 · 18/12/2025 17:39

Anything that involved dealing with people with really bad BO and wearing smelly clothes

CrowsInMyGarden · 18/12/2025 17:42

Working in a slaughterhouse. Lots of people saying dog walker, I’d love that but only if they were kept on a lead. Don’t mind picking up poo at all but I’d be terrified of losing a dog.

shortsaint · 18/12/2025 17:55

Doing the breakfast service in a hotel.
