nailpolish it's up to the pool.
I used to take all my 3 (5, 3, 1) and then my local pool banned me from taking more than 2 (over the summer this was).
Then suddenly they announced that I could take three into the baby pool (while bizarrely denying that they had changed their rules, this despite the fact that they refused me entry earlier in the year).
Anyway! It's all sorted now.
But a pool near us told me on the phone the other day that I could only take two (so of course I couldn't go - DH doesn't swim). You should be fine with 2 in most places, certainly in a teaching pool.
It made me annoyed because I do think swimming is vital and experience has taught me that you need to keep going regularly.
After Sunday's splash party a friend has nicknamed DS2 (21mo) "the fish" as he was sooo happy in te water!

On the pool thing I think the ratios are waived if its a leaner pool. And our local pool classes the roped off shallow end as a learner pool and allows me to take DS (3.11) and DD (0.8) to the parent and child session regularly. I would like to take them to a leisure pool for a change (local pool is a 1920's miner's welfare standard oblong) but will have to rope in reluctant, non-swimming DH.

How do you take your children swimming and not get though? DD is a manic child in the water and soaks me through and has been know to reduce DS to tears (when he's in a wimpish mood). But she's only a baby so has to be held or go in a baby seat and I worry about her getting cold in the seat for an hour, plus not so much fun/water experience for her. Don't see how you could take a baby swimming and not get wet.

Also don't get the idea of wearing mascara in the pool. I often see mums with black streaks down their face.

Cod with respect, I don't think you should judge everyone who swims without getting their hair wet!! I swim quite a lot, and most of the time I wear it up and try not to get it wet (unless I want to wash it afterwards anyway) because I have extremely thick hair that takes HOURS - and I mean an entire day - to dry. Unfortunately I don't have the kind of hair that you can just quickly shampoo then it's dry in 15 minutes... I would love it if it was that easy, but it's not. Most of the time it's not worth the effort to get it wet because I can't be bothered having to wash and style it again which takes forever.

So I really don't think everyone is doing it from a vanity point of view
