Oh great, so now as well as being a pathetic person for not swimming, I've had a sense of humour bypass.

As I've tried to explain, the posts giving a hard time to non-swimmers were hurtful because some non-swimmers are that way because we were frightened or bullied. And no, I don't find that particularly funny. I clicked on this thread because it looked entertaining, I wasn't expecting to feel stressed and got-at.

Although I have picked up one positive thing from this thread - hadn't realised it was possible to keep your glasses on in the pool, so that might be something I could try to make me feel less anxious about it.

Whaddever....

Leogaela · 10/01/2005 16:06

a good way of dealing with a fear is having a laugh at yourself about it. You can't imagine how much people have taken the p!ss out of me for getting bitten on the butt by a dog last year. I would have a panic attack if I could see a dog after than. Still scared of dogs, but it helps to laugh about it.

So Tissy, is the hairdresser still the family hairdresser after that???

edam · 10/01/2005 16:07

Oh, that's a really witty put-down, Moondog, where do you get them from?

wild · 10/01/2005 16:08

Yeah and I am going for the goggles
That way I can see AND wear normal mascara

Leogaela · 10/01/2005 16:11

Good on you Wild!!!

Cardigan · 10/01/2005 16:13

What about those of us who don't swim well & get our hair wet

SDragon · 10/01/2005 16:15

Taking DSs to swimming lessons for the last 5 years has pretty much cured me of my fear of being splashed.

my local pool is great but every so often a claxon sounds and they start these HUGE tidal waves that start immediately and are great for teenagers etc but i have to swim like the clappers with dd under 1 arm to get to the shallow bit or we get swallowed up. its horrible

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 10/01/2005 16:20

well I wear a hat

SDragon · 10/01/2005 16:21

Wooly hat? Fur? One of those straw things with a big flower and some netting on that you get for weddings?

SDragon · 10/01/2005 16:21
Grin
iota · 10/01/2005 16:22

ypu wouldn't want to get a straw hat wet would you

donnie · 10/01/2005 16:23

can't understand women who have full make up and jewellery for swimming - weird! they are the ones who bob along with neck extended from water like ducks and hate people like me who just swim properly! also a woman at my health club chews gum the entire duration of her swimming sessions which frankly I find repulsive - does anyone agree ? It is actually proven that swimmimng with extended neck is bad for your spine, but the trouble with keeping your head under the water is that you can see all the old tissues, plasters, clumps of hair.....vom!

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 10/01/2005 16:25

a hat like this

gingerbear · 10/01/2005 16:25

How do you swim and chew gum at the same time? - I wouldn't be able to breathe!!!

donnie · 10/01/2005 16:31

no, this gum chewing woman swims in a strange sideways fashion so she can chew in full swing...I try to give her nasty looks but I think she thinks I am attracted to her or something. Which I am NOT!!!!

iota · 10/01/2005 16:32

sobernow - I agree with you. Surely everyone is entitled to respond to a criticism against something that they identify with? And that resonse surely has as much right to be here as other replies.
