Oh yes you can.

nasa · 10/01/2005 19:37

remember those signs
no running
no pushing
no heavy petting

err, yeah right, what I feel like in this chlorine perfumed, wee infested pool, is a bit of nooky!

nasa · 10/01/2005 19:41

well that killed it

tentunturq · 10/01/2005 19:42

What about verruca baths? I once saw a slightly soiled panty liner floating in one, which along with the snot, plasters, hair clumps etc put me right off.

vict17 · 10/01/2005 19:43

Oh yes, we used to wee ourselves silly at the 'no heavy petting' signs when we went swimming with school

tentunturq · 10/01/2005 19:44

That should kill it stone dead.
I am in awe of you lot managing a punch up over wet hair

lou33 · 10/01/2005 19:45

snigger

sunny, yes i do mean that margot.

shudder at the thought of having her as a neighbour.....

edam · 10/01/2005 19:58

only just caught up with this thread and:
a. ROFL at the hats! OMG one of the girls at my school had one of those flowery ones. Maybe thats where I get my fear of water from, after all...

and b. thanks for the half-apology lowcalCod, appreciate it.

lowcalCOD · 10/01/2005 20:00

I relly didnt ever mean non swimmers

OP posts:
edam · 10/01/2005 20:09

oh, just wait for the poster who has been traumatised by a beehive.. we've probably got someone who was in Mari Wilson and the Wilsonettes

MariWilson · 10/01/2005 20:11

Don't mention beehives. I come out in a cold sweat whenever I hear the word.

edam · 10/01/2005 20:14

Maybe you could set up a support group with Tissy? Curl up and Dye anonymous?

tamum · 10/01/2005 20:17

marthamoo, I only just came back to this . No, it was indoors so we had to wear gym skirts and t shirts, and even if I had a red costume I would not have looked like Pamela Anderson in any department, sadly

marthamoo · 10/01/2005 20:25

Oh, you spoiled my mental picture - I had you dashing around with the polystyrene float and everything. I bet you're far prettier than P.A. - I think she's mostly silicone.

I used to have a lovely kaftan (original 70s one - belonged to my Mum) It was turquoise with huge panels of multi-coloured embroidery on. I wore it for a 3 legged pub crawl at Uni and don't remember what happend to it after that

I also had a white waffle swimming cap, exactly like the ones in cod's link. The flowery ones are to die for.

makealist · 10/01/2005 20:51

Just to be on the safe side i wear a swimming cap, goggles (waterproof mascara just in case goggles leak!) ear plugs, nose plugs and those lovely white verucca socks. All I need now is a couple of corks!!!

Polgara2 · 10/01/2005 20:55

Couldn't resist another look at this thread - haven't time to read it all but please tell me how you've managed to include Kaftans in it??? Oh and at school I used to have a white (ish) swim hat with those big stick on flowers on it imagine how fetching it looked with owl-like specs underneath!!

tamum · 10/01/2005 21:00

marthamoo, mwah mwah

nailpolish · 10/01/2005 21:13

can i ask a serious swimming question please? im still not sure about the new laws on swimming - is it true you have to have 1-to-1 adult-child if the child is under 8? does that mean then i cant take dd's swimming unless someone else comes with me?

iota · 10/01/2005 21:15

nailpolish - at the David Lloyd you can look after up to 3 kids - don't know about public pools

nailpolish · 10/01/2005 21:16

but i was told its a new law

tamum · 10/01/2005 21:18

I think it depends on the council, nailpolish. I think you're close to me (Edinburgh) aren't you? so for example Leith Waterworld, which is a council pool, says this:

From nine years old a child can enter Leith Waterworld unaccompanied.

There must be at least one adult in the water supervising one child of four years and under at Leith Waterworld.

There must be at least one adult in the water supervising two children between five and eight years at Leith Waterworld.

So that would depend on how young your younger dd is, I guess.

iota · 10/01/2005 21:18

no-one has mentioned it at the DL....?

nailpolish · 10/01/2005 21:20

ah yes, thats what i was told, thanks tamum. my dd's are 2 and 2 mths, so definitely no! dh hates swimming tho. ive bought one of these boat things for dd2 but ill have take them seperately.

is leith waterworld open again? i thought it had shut down - thats good news!

tamum · 10/01/2005 21:22

Yes, it reopened about a year ago (ish?) but it seems to be under threat all the time as it's so expensive to run. It's a shame about not being able to take them both- you'd think they would be a bit more flexible if it was in a little children's pool wouldn't you?

nailpolish · 10/01/2005 21:24

well thats it - we would only be going to the shallow bit for a paddle and splash around. oh well. ill try and persuade dh but that means we have to go at the weekend which i what i try to avoid!
