I swim without getting my hair wet and get annoyed at people splashing me!! I know it's stupid but my hair looks crap if I get it wet and my mascara will run! I don't swim when I take the kids anyway - just hang about in the shallow end until they're ready to get out!!

Don't really care what anyone thinks either!!

lowcalCOD · 10/01/2005 14:59

lol

I'm a pince then!

Coddy I am beginning to think you were one of the 'tough' girls at school.

Tinker · 10/01/2005 15:01

Another good reason to not swim - having to splash (hur hur) out on waterproof mascara Is swimming the one activity designed to make you look as ugly as possible?

lowcalCOD · 10/01/2005 15:02

I think Coddy was only joking.....!

I had the same attitude before and couldn't understand how people cannot swim. its really important to me and important in life - you never know when you are going to need to be able to swim. i admire the scared people that get in the water with their kids and try. I am scared of dogs and won't go near them if I can help it. I will be up a tree as quickly as possible if there is one running around without a lead (i did get bitten on the bum when I was out running a couple of years ago though).

As for bikini, sporty bikini would be OK, but I usually only have skimpy ones (for beach and sun) and need a full swimming costume as well anyway, keeps me warmer around the middle. sporty costumes tend to be quite supportive. i have (had) a C cup and do triathlons, got one from TRY that I can run in comfortably and I HATE any bounce at all. As for flat toned tummies - I was very proud of mine before, and at 31 weeks pregnant I am very proud of it now, but lets see how it looks in a few months time!

lou33 · 10/01/2005 15:05

i dont care about hair getting wet, i can swim, but still hate the water in teh face thing. I don't wear make up in the pool either, or on holiday for that matter.

Hulababy · 10/01/2005 15:07

I do get my hair wet, but I do also avoid getting my face wet. And I don't put my face int he water deliberately, and I hate getting splashed too. I wear contact lenses in the water and getting splashed or really wet can cause them to come out. I then can't see properly and therefore I am not as confiddent at beong able to look after DD in the pool.

I can only just swim. I lack confidence when swimming and I am a very wear swimmer. BUT I take DD swimming to ensure she is not the same. However, having just joined a gym with a pool I am swimming a bit and was very proud of myself when I managed to swim 8 lengths this weekend. It wasn't fast and wasn't with style, and my head wasn't in the water - but I did it. And I was darn proud of it too.

Maybe people should remember that not everyone is blessed with naturally confidence round water and it isn't just 'cos of makeup and hair we don't like it.

As for other people's kids splashing deliberatly - it is discourteous and plain rude.

I knew there was a reason why I joined a gym woth a pool. Nice and quiet, an adults only pool, and rules on behaviour in the kiddies pool

Leogaela · 10/01/2005 15:07

MAscara!!! you know that a lot of pools have a scum line. that's because of all the women that don't wash their make up off before they get in the pool!!!!!!

gingerbear · 10/01/2005 15:16

Hula, no snot or plasters in your pool then?

well done at doing 8 lengths BTW!!

Hulababy · 10/01/2005 15:17

Oh no, no, no. All very civilised and pleasant

marialuisa · 10/01/2005 15:19

Sorry cod, can't do BHS (stuck-up cow emoticon). Ended up in there a few months ago to satisfy DD's wish for my little pony knickers, local one is very Eastern bloc and has a really nasty smell from the cafe all through it.

gingerbear · 10/01/2005 15:21

Once went diving - after the dive I was a bedraggled wreck with red ring around my face from tight fitting mask - not glamourous when your sinuses decide to empty themselves into your mask along with nasal blood from trying too hard to 'pop' your ears.

Two Italian women started with full make-up, emerged having lost lippy - first thing they did before they even took off their air tanks - REAPPLY MASCARA AND LIPPY!!!! They did look fab though......

gingerbear · 10/01/2005 15:22

Think their wetsuits were Dolce and Gabbana

gingerbear · 10/01/2005 15:23

Gosh, just realised, the last time I wore my wetsuit I was two stones lighter......back off to Cod's Diet thread

moondog · 10/01/2005 15:27

VVVVV funny re Italian women gingerbear!!
