Thread 175 - will we never shut up?! Pull up a chair and have a good whinge about domestic tedium and annoyingly fictional HBFs... (once we've finished the other thread).

<arf> at the poker bluff LetUs Grin.
re. the weather - what you need is a selection of HBFs with thick coats to take your mind off things. We have rain, so it's umbrellas here. Or boats if it gets too wet.

DH still v. rough, I might be a bit better. The garden seemed v. quiet this morning - I came down to find that KillerKitty has caught the thrush that's been singing it's little heart out at dawn. Sad Sodding cat. That required an immediate clean up before DH had a chance of finding out.

Afternoon. Horrible out, no snow, but cold, wet and windy.

Washing machine update: It could be any one of three things. He will order two of them and come back on Tuesday and hope that it’s one of them. If it’s the third one, tough, because he can’t get it as the machine is 22 years old. Knowing my luck I know which one it will be. Hmm

Grin at the golf club canopy and the poker bluff.

Oh dear Helen that’s so sad, poor thrush. Sad

LetUsPrey · 08/02/2024 20:50

Evening wenches.

We had rain and sleet so phew for no snow. It’s so important to wrap up warm Helen. For one’s health

Poor birdy Sad

That reminds me of when my mum’s longstanding washing machine broke Apricot. She was not happy.

Traffic was shite again. Early night for me.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/02/2024 21:10

Evening. It's been wet and cold all day. I have done various taxi duties - DH is now on antibiotics since The Cold is now The Chest Infection.

Fingers crossed for your washing machine Apricot - ours is making a bit of a knocking noise at times, which is worrying. 22 years is an impressive lifespan.

Hope that LetUs has got home safely and isn't snowed in. Elk says they've had 'horizontal snow' in their neck of the woods. Confused

FancyFancy · 08/02/2024 23:30

Evening
Have been busy with the usual - work <sigh>
Did manage to get out with FancyMan last night which was lovely

TavCats also keeping me busy - Bulldozer/ChattyCat is getting quite demanding, lots of shouting at me and being a pesky if not getting enough attention. He is really enjoying playing though which is good as he needs the exercise - is a bit of a chonk. I may yet call him Snorticus in homage to the saviour of mums' sanity (fit men being in short supply on kids tv) as he snorts when playing and sometimes when purring. KlutzCat is still shy, but will play a little which is sweet.

Commiserations with all the lurgies and misbehaving domestic appliances.

LetUsPrey · 09/02/2024 07:30

Morning wenches.

Snorticus Grin and squeeee at KlutzCat playing just a little bit. Not squeee at work though.

Flipsake at chest infection for MrHelen. Proper horrid for him. Make sure you look after yourself too though Helen.

Eeek at horizontal snow for Elk.

Seems to be Friday which is acceptable. It’ll be more acceptable in about 11 hours.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/02/2024 07:49

Morning all. TFI, etc.

There is another thrush singing in the garden this morning, so fingers crossed it finds another one and they have a nice big brood of baby thrushes <side-eyes at Killer Kitty>

Lots of rain overnight and parts of the garden are underwater again. <le enormous tired sigh>

<goes back to hide in the hayloft>

Afternoon. Rainy and grey here. No golf. <where’s that canopy?>

Lovely to hear that FancyCats are playing and snorting.

Hope the antibiotics kick in quickly for MrHelen.

Have a lovely evening all. Wine

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/02/2024 17:38

Rainy and dull here too. MrH is much improved, I am much unimproved, and resorted to lemsips again <shudder, again> and have Dr booked in for Monday to hopefully lob antibiotics at me too.

Decorates to illustrate current state of affairs, though I'm more 'jeans and fleece' and less 'lacy nightgown'.

Evening wenches.

Raaaaaiinnnnn. Though not as much as Helen from the sounds of it. Hope you get medication if it’s needed Helen. And help from Doctor Athos with your lacy nightgown.

Got stuck in roadworks again tonight. The ones that were only supposed to be off peak and finish yesterday. Picked up DS2 from SportingActivity and now I’m tired.

LetUsPrey · 10/02/2024 08:47

Morning wenches.

Was expecting it to be a little warmer today so the cars being iced over was a bit of a surprise. Not that I can be bothered to go out anywhere today.

Dishes already done and a wash on the go. Much the same planned for the rest of the day. However shall I contain the excitement.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/02/2024 12:45

Too much excitement there LetUs, too much - go and have a little lie-down.

I am still feeling proper rough. Haven't had bronchitis is years, but this feels quite familiar. The current question is whether I go back to bed (from the sofa) or stay down and watch tv. Bed is feeling likely, though also having just done a slow circuit of the garden to shoo off next door's chickens, sporadically moving also feels like a good idea. I'll probably stay on the sofa in a haze of indecision. urgh... etc.
<snuggles up on chaise with HBFs>

Also, Weird shit on twitter...
That thing when you click on a very short thread, and at the end of it, twitter decides to show you other posts you might be interested in:

  1. a post about teaching Chaucer
  2. pictures of Tom Hiddlestone in a black Tshirt
  3. picture of TB as Athos
  4. picture of 3 glossy ibis(es) on the Somerset levels. Confused

Afternoon. Nice day, DH has even done a bit of gardening as the lawnmower has been returned after a very expensive service and repair. Something else that’s old and wearing out like me. Hmm

I have been knitting. How’s the cardigan going LetUs?

That is an odd collection of twitterings Helen. You don’t sound at all well, hope you can get some antibiotics. 🍰🍫[Athos]

LetUsPrey · 10/02/2024 19:27

Evening wenches.

You’re not old and wearing out Apricot, but you’re definitely worth keeping around. All the pieces of the cardigan are knitted and I’ve joined the shoulder seams, but next bit is picking up loads and loads of stitches to do the front edge borders. Been too dark and I’ve been too tired of an evening to do that bit so I started something else on Thursday evening 🤦🏻‍♀️ but I’ve nearly done that.

Oh Helen that sounds properly dreadful for you. You poor thing. Sick bay and stay there. Am baffled at those twitter recommendations.

Got lots of housework done this morning and then have knitted. Watched The Batman with DS2. This one was Robert Pattison. I was thinking mate get your hair cut and put some lights on.

LetUsPrey · 11/02/2024 08:43

Morning wenches.

Quite foggy here.

After yesterday’s excitement of changing the beds, I’ve decided to calm things down today with washing and ironing.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/02/2024 12:16

Morning (though not quite anymore).

Am still in the sick bay. Poor IdiotKitty tried to curl up on me and stalked off in disgust at being bounced around each time I cough.

DH is also still coughing, both of us thought we were doing better last night until bedtime. At which point we both had full-on coughing fits and took ages to get to sleep. Uuuuuuuuuurgh. Weather is dry at the moment with high cloud (it rained earlier when I was out feeding chickens).

Watching the first episode of Morse, from 1987! I was 16 then 😱
Not an Iphone in sight, Lewis looks lika baby and someone is playing with a yo-yo! Does that thing even exist today?

ApricotCrush · 11/02/2024 17:36

Afternoon. Quite a nice day. We’ve had DS’s DC all day and DGS2 is a nightmare. It’s not his fault but he’s exhausting.

Yes I do that with the knitting LetUs, go to something else when I get to an awkward bit.

Oh poor you Helen and MrHelen, coughs are always worse at night.

Grin at Morse 1987 WW. You sometimes get yo-yos in Christmas crackers here.

LetUsPrey · 11/02/2024 19:48

Evening wenches.

Urgh Helen, it’s not letting go of you easily (which is easy to understand but still). Hope today’s been better for you.

Ooooo Morse Wicked! Excellent. Enjoy!

Have a WineApricot.

Standard Sunday here. Was brave and picked up the tricky knitting. Apparently I now struggle with basic counting.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/02/2024 22:22

Evening all.

Am tiiiiiiired. (So I really ought to be going to bed.) Today I went out for a slow meander with DH - we went to check out our local flooding spot. I waded through is as normal, and then my boot got stuck. I kept the boot, but lost my balance and went face-first into the water (not completely in - hurrah for the press-up position). As moments go, it was a comedy classic Grin and fortunately it wasn't too cold so I squelched and giggled my way home.

Small children are v. tiring Apricot - sympathies.

LetUs - here's a handy counting guide for you...

Morning wenches.

Have you thought about going into teaching Helen? Adult numeracy perhaps? Grin

I am not laughing at your accidental outside bath. Nope. Hopefully you got dried off and no ill effects.

Already bored of Monday and I’ve got the dentist after work.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 12/02/2024 08:11

Morning all. Sunrise today has involved pink-ish clouds turning peachy, and then all silvery as the sun actually rose. I have a trip to the Dr today to see if there's any infection that could be treated with antibiotics, as per DH who has lost the chest infection but still has the cough. urgh, etc.

Afternoon. Lovely sunny day but a bit chilly. I did some more hand-washing, went to Lidl and knitted.

Oh Helen, that does sound hilarious, hope you didn’t hurt yourself. Also hope you got the antibiotics. Love the counting guide.

Good luck with the dentist LetUs.
