Thread 175 - will we never shut up?! Pull up a chair and have a good whinge about domestic tedium and annoyingly fictional HBFs... (once we've finished the other thread).

Afternoon all. Today I have been having a lie in, and then doing taxi duties and getting tea into the slow cooker. Next I shall have lunch, then get out into the garden look out of the window and watch the rain. Hmm

Am less annoyed with DS today - apparently the college open thing was fully booked within hours, so even if he had done something, he might have been to late.

Hope that knitted stuff is going well ChezLetUs and everyone is having a good day.

ApricotCrush · 03/02/2024 15:33

Afternoon. Bit grey and miserable here.

I've been doing photo backing up and general computer tidying and now my back aches from sitting in one position for too long. Hmm DH has spent all morning looking for insurance for his car. As you get older it goes up alarmingly.

Have a lovely evening all.

LetUsPrey · 03/02/2024 18:39

Evening wenches.

That’s excusable then for MiniHelen. How’s your cough Helen? Hopefully going away and not worsening.

<sends Apricot to physio room in the Tav>

I’ve finished the doll’s clothes knitting and am almost finished with the stuff for the bear. Not that I’m trying to put off finishing the cardigan I’m making for myself because it will either a) not fit or b) I won’t like it or c) both.

Am also on taxi duties. Taking and collecting DH for a meal out with a friend. Must remember to call at Sainsburys for a birthday card whilst I’m out.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 03/02/2024 21:52

Evening. Cough is still bleurgh. Ds is a lots better, though still not much in the way of voice. I went to SportingActivity today and someone greeted me with "Oh, have you got the 100-day cough?" <sob> Hopefully, I don't.

So, today has been sporting taxi, and also digging up more nettles and brambles. Whoop Hmm

Morning. It's grey and mild out there. There are no plans for anything.

Have a good day! (Hope MrA got insurance sorted - sodding tedious job!)

Morning wenches.

<glares at Helen’s cough> it’d better not be the bad one. Can’t have wenches suffering for longer than necessary.

Think weather is similar here. Usual Sunday beckons.

ApricotCrush · 04/02/2024 16:11

Afternoon. Quite bright outside, but I haven’t been out.

Yes, DH sorted his insurance, but we have another bloody crisis ChezApricot. I went to the freezer last night and everything was a bit soft round the edges to say the least. Shock Bread and ice cream had completely defrosted. Cue total panic; it’s a chest freezer and pretty full. Anyway, DH found one of the switches had tripped on the consumer unit and after testing everything it turned out it’s the washing machine that has died, which is on the same circuit. It’s hardly surprising, DS makes twice as much washing as the two of us put together and it’s on all the time and I didn’t think it had spun very well last time I used it. 🙈

I put the freezer onto fast freeze and the food is now frozen again. Google tells me that you can do this if the food hasn’t been warmer than 4 degrees which I don’t think it had. DS says he’s not eating anything from in there until we’ve tried it first; he has his own little freezer for his food in the garage. Fortunately we have insurance for the washing machine so that’s another phone call tomorrow. <sigh>

I know what you mean about the knitting LetUs. I seem to be avoiding my latest project as I still can’t get the stripes right.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/02/2024 17:28

Doooooooooooooom Apricot Sad ours was left ajar a coupe of days ago, but fortunately not for so long that things got squidgy, it was just a bit frosty inside.

Outside was breezy and mostly cloudy today. Washing got mostly dry on the line. I am shattered and going to eat, then have a bath. Hopefully.

<cbf> at tricky knitting projects.

Evening wenches.

Urgh that sinking feeling when you realise the freezer has been unexpectedly defrosting. Fingers crossed everything you’ve saved is okay.

Usual Sunday stuff plus bath’n’book.

New series of Death in Paradise tonight which DS2 is looking forward to. I’ll watch with him. DH said he’s not bothered so no doubt he will watch with us and chip in with lots of amusing comments.

LetUsPrey · 05/02/2024 07:44

Morning wenches.

Seems quite a bit lighter this morning which makes a nice change.

I think that’s as positive I can get for a Monday morning.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/02/2024 08:11

Morning wenches. Cough, splutter, etc. (The cold is not FTFO-ing, it seems to have made itself a nice cup of tea and has settled down on the sofa for a nice long visit.)

It's dry and windy outside - KillerKitty is suitably batshit. Sunrise is currently being all golden (sunset last night was very pink and orange and pretty)

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 05/02/2024 16:31

Afternoon. There's a cold wind as I discovered when I went to Sainsbury's. The weather app says 11 degrees, but it doesn't feel like that.

The washing machine engineer is coming on Thursday. I thought I'd do a bit of hand washing to keep the pile down as I've got an ancient spin dryer somewhere in DH's workshop. I asked him if he'd unearth it before golf and did he? I'll leave you to guess. Hmm Anyway I found it but hand washing is hard work.

We've recorded Death in Paradise LetUs. We're watching season 2 of The Tourist with Jamie Dornan. It's terrifying, but with black humour to lighten it a bit.

Sorry about your cold Helen, hope it doesn't last long.

LetUsPrey · 05/02/2024 20:53

Evening wenches.

Oh crap Helen, hope it’s not this mega cold that’s been doing the rounds here.

I shall guess that no MrApricot did not unearth the spin dryer. I remember my mum doing a lot of hand washing when I was a lot younger, putting stuff through the mangle.

Work was worky and the traffic on the way home was absolutely shite.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/02/2024 21:29

FFS at DH's not getting stuff done. DH has been in bed all day feeling utterly grim, so I'll let him off with not getting stuff done. I have coughed and spluttered my way through the day, feeling sorry for myself. Woe is me, etc etc. As long as I don't get worse it will be fine, because I don't want DH's variant Confused

Have had to apply to renew DS' passport today, because I realised if we tried to go anywhere at Easter, it doesn't have 6 months left on it. Though we can't book anything until we get his new passport back. Arse, and all that.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 06/02/2024 07:40

Morning wenches.

Hope passport comes back quickly Helen. Carry on feeling sorry for yourself, it sounds dreadful.

Awful sleep, weird dreams and back pain. Absolutely definitely phoning physio today. Her evening appointments don’t seem to show on her website.

Chucking it down here. Lovely.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/02/2024 07:45

Morning all. Bleurgh etc. Sunrise is doing a golden and grey thing today while the clouds scud past overhead. Nowt exciting going on.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 06/02/2024 16:12

Afternoon. Chucking it down here too.

Another drama. DH opened one of the overhead cupboards in the kitchen last night and the door came off its hinges. Good job it was him and not me because it’s heavy and he was able to catch it before it did any damage. It had to be emptied and he made the usual dust everywhere mending it and it took all morning but it’s back now.

Poor MrHelen and you too Helen. 🍰🍫 ☕️

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 06/02/2024 19:09

Confused about the freezer Apes

Hope you feel better soon Helen

Bad sleep really sucks Letus. I’m constantly having weird dreams Confused

Work really sucks at the moment and I’m grumpy and tired.

The only good thing is that I discovered Endeavour (sounds like a space ship), here it’s called Young Inspector Morse. It’s so stylish 😀

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/02/2024 21:06

Evening all. It's peeing down here, as forecast.

One of our chickens has taken on Houdini's mantel and is out of their run at every opportunity. This means I'm going to have to leave them shut into the inner part in the mornings, so she doesn't start laying elsewhere. <le sigh>

DH is improved enough to be downstairs with us. I had to go out and do adulting things, including getting cough mix for him. I asked the pharmacist about The Cough and apparently everyone has it and he needs to just put up with it. Poor DH Sad he seems to have coughed his throat rather raw.

Ooooooooh - this will make you laugh. I put a lindor in my coat pocket before I went out adulting. Except I didn't - I put it in my jeans pocket. Where it melted, and went all over my jeans and underwear. They're now in the wash. On the plus side, I was able to suck a decent amount of melted chocolate out of the wrapper before binning it Grin

Eeek at the cupboard door apricot! LetUs - did you phone the physio?

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 07/02/2024 07:27

Morning wenches.

Another one for the book Apricot. Relieved that it wasn’t you who opened it.

Endeavour is excellent Wicked. If you can get it, you might like Inspector George Gently. DS2 binged all eight (I think) series in the last few weeks.

BigSis has the tail end of The Cough Helen. She too is “really bloody well fed up of the damn thing”. Well done on salvaging what you could of the chocolate Grin

I did indeed phone the physio but she was driving and it was chucking it down so she said she’d phone back. But she forgot and then I forgot so I’ll try again today.

Was out for a meal last night which was delicious.

Short day today so woohooo.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/02/2024 07:33

Morning wenches. Urgh, etc. It's grey and damp outside, but not actually raining and also the wind has dropped - hurrah!!!!

This morning I have resorted to a lempsip. godawful stuff, just <shudder> On the other hand, if it helps...

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 07/02/2024 17:42

Evening all. Cold and wet and miserable here. DH went to the golf club but the course was closed because it was too wet so he came back and got the washing machine out for the guy tomorrow, together with the accompanying upheaval. Hmm

Lemsip upsets my stomach, so I don’t bother with it, but hope it helped you Helen.

We’ve never watched Endeavour, I’ll have a look when we’ve got through all the stuff we’ve recorded.

Hope you sorted an appointment with the physio LetUs.

LetUsPrey · 07/02/2024 18:46

Evening wenches.

Oh Helen you sound like you’ve got a bad dose of this horrid cold Sad

Any way of putting a large canopy style thing over the golf course when it rains? Obviously I am thinking of the golfers missing out. Obviously.

Physio and I are currently playing phone tag. I’ve left her a message, she tried to call me back but I couldn’t take the call, I’ve left another message.

Temperature is dropping here and we have snow forecast tomorrow. Urgh.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/02/2024 22:17

Evening. I don't know if the lemsip helped. it didn't hurt anyway. Today I've had a sore throat added to the equation (hence the lemsip - and gargling TCP in the early hours) DH is better enough to be sat downstairs for a lot of the day, but still very rough and croaky.

Work was workish. Spreadsheets and reconcilliations, etc.

Today I looked at half term things to do (which were sold out) <awards self wooden spoon for parenting>.

We've played poker this evening, which was entertaining since I can't remember how to play poker or which hands is better than another. Grin

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 08/02/2024 07:29

Morning wenches.

You sound like your household has been hit quite hard by this UberCold Helen. Everything crossed for improvements soon.

Wouldn’t have a clue re poker. Or do I? <bluffing face>

I have a physio appointment. Hurrah!

BBC Weather today says I’ll be needing an umbrella. The Met Office app says I’ll be needing a snowplough.
