Thread 175 - will we never shut up?! Pull up a chair and have a good whinge about domestic tedium and annoyingly fictional HBFs... (once we've finished the other thread).

Afternoon all. This post is brought to you from my desk, in PJs and dressing gown still, because it's cold and raining and at least I feel warm like this. We had lots of rain overnight, a few hours pause, and now it's started again. Also my back aches from clearing out more brambles yesterday. Woe is me, winge, winge, etc.

I shall not be back in the office this week, due to both cars being temperamental - thanks goodness for WFH! I should probably let work know that too really.

There is general refusal to eat that muck from the cats, but I think that's down to fussiness and being spoilt (biscuits were hoovered up).

Hope that Apricot is having a bit of a break today <locks MrA away somewhere safe with no ladders or suchlike>, and work isn't too grim for everyone, and all is well at Chateau Fancy.

Afternoon. Dark and tipping it down all day. The golf club won’t be open tomorrow. Sad

DH is watching the darts, and I’m upstairs knitting. I’ve started a new jumper having worn the maple leaf one on Christmas day. I have a sort of plan for it, but we’ll see.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 02/01/2024 19:34

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind, raiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark.... And a fecking headache. I am Grumpy McGrumpFace. Also IdiotKitty has been out catching wildlife - and yakking it all up again on the bedroom carpet. F.M.L.

Evening wenches.

FGS IdiotKitty, perhaps you were off colour from something you ate so behave yourself. Which you are actually doing, behaving like a cat, but you know what I mean.

Hope everything’s battened down ChezHelen.

Managed to rip away some stitches which went down a few rows’ worth of knitting last night. I was Most Cross. However, I’ve done a repair which looks okay. I will never not be impressed by your knitability Apricot.

Finished both online courses today. Quite tired now.

LetUsPrey · 03/01/2024 07:35

Morning wenches.

Dark etc. Hope the wind hasn’t caused any damage or issues for wench travel anywhere. We appear to have missed the wind.

Lots of talking to self this morning along the lines of “come on now, get going, shake yourself”. So far, I am ignoring myself.

<restocks jigsaw and book and craft corner of Tav>

ApricotCrush · 03/01/2024 17:05

Afternoon. More rain. I went to Sainsbury’s this morning and got a tad wet loading it all into the boot.

I meant to do some more knitting this afternoon but didn’t get round to it. I don’t know where the days go to.

Yay for finished courses but boo for IdiotKitty, he’s his own worst enemy.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 03/01/2024 18:41

Lots of snow here, about -8 today, which is nothing compared to -43,6 in Kvikkjokk wich is faaaaaar up north, not planning to visit that place anytime soon Confused

LetUsPrey · 03/01/2024 20:26

Evening wenches.

Temperatures should not be having a - in front of them. And certainly not into double digits. No, no thank you.

We are yet again covering someone else’s work at the office, as well as doing our own stuff. Never any reciprocation, not necessarily from this person (who is actually nice) but from anyone. Le sigh.

Still it was a short day and after I’d done various house jobs, I’ve been knitting.

DH has got the darts on.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 03/01/2024 20:59

Evening all. I have had a short day too - mainly because I woke up with the migraine still so chugged more drugs and went to bed again.

Bit of rain today, but mostly drier than it has been. Floods ahoy round the village again, but not our garden (phew) There's been remarkably little in the way or storm damage too.

That's just stupidly low temperatures wicked Shock and how bloody irritating about your knitting LetUs - well done on the repair - I think you and apricot are impressive on the knitting front.

Down south it snowed so much that around a 1000 cars got stuck at the motorway, some people been sitting in their cars for 24 hours and it's still not solved. The military has been called in with bandwagons to help people Confused

LetUsPrey · 04/01/2024 07:41

Morning wenches.

Sorry Wicked but I’m sticking my fingers in my ears and not listening to that. Those poor people though. Are you feeling any better.

And poor you with the migraine Helen? Did it properly go or is it still sort of hovering? Good news re the garden water levels.

Dark and rainy which I keep telling myself can’t go on forever yet it feels like it is.

Have excellent days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/01/2024 07:47

Morning all. Daaaaaaaaark... but back to school, so we're up before the larks again. We have a song thrush in our hedge at the moment, which is lovely and cheerful, but very piercing yesterday when I stumbled out which chicken food and the headache.

IdiotKitty was doing his best impression of a deranged motorbike when I came down - growling because he had a rat and wanted to keep it. <le sigh> He was also lying in the doorway, so I had to step over him to get into the kitchen - and back and forth a few times before I chucked him out with it. He's not going upstairs today until I'm sure he's not going to hurl it up again.

Hope everywench has a good day.
<also ignoring the idea of being stuck in snowdrifts - eek! Though then again - it depends which men in uniform come to the rescue Grin >

FancyFancy · 04/01/2024 13:17

Afternoon.

Wfh today as have a dentist appointment to replace a filling later. Work has been, well work-ish - more of the same. Still chronically understaffed <sighs>

I think you may have the same new lights as me helen - I too have twinkly warm white lights going up the stairs!

It's mercifully less wet & windy here today - several trees down in the area & lots of flooded roads over the last few days, I've been lucky though and nothing too bad has been on my route to work. plenty of wildlife in teh garden today, just had a squirrel peer in through the bedroom window Grin

Yikes ww that all sounds horrendous, best stay in the Tav until spring!

ApricotCrush · 04/01/2024 16:57

Afternoon. Quite a nice day but it doesn’t seem to be getting any lighter.

DH went out this morning so I got on with some cleaning and tidying up from Christmas. It’s amazing what I can do when I’m on my own.

Eeeeek WW that sounds awful, poor people stuck in their cars.

Hope the dentist went well Fancy.

FancyFancy · 04/01/2024 18:26

Dentist seemed to go ok thanks. Still very numb & starting to get hungry........

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/01/2024 20:33

Evening all.

Nothing exciting going on - I hung some washing out; it went from warm and damp, to cold and damp Hmm.
IdiotKitty seems to have not hurled today, which is good.

Fingers crossed that your tooth is all fixed Fancy and that your teeth feel ok. (And that you haven't been drooling too much!)

LetUsPrey · 04/01/2024 20:52

Evening wenches.

Have barely stopped all day at work and so I’m bloody knackered.

Squishy hugs where needed and hope numbness has worn off Fancy. Our tree and decorations should have come down a week ago will come down tomorrow.

DH went for a run tonight and said it wasn’t raining!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/01/2024 07:18

Morning all.

MrLetUs didn't run this far then, because it chucked it down all evening. I think it's stopped now but it's too dark to see how wet it is now.

Our decorations need to come down too. DS didn't even bother emptying all the advent calendar pockets this year, and filling them for yourself isn't quite the same Sad

<puts of caffeine and matchsticks for LetUs>
<adds HBF because, Wench>

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 05/01/2024 07:38

Morning wenches.

I think “because, Wench” should be a standard recognised explanation.

That is a bit Sad Helen. I still miss putting out the letter and drink and snacks for Santa, although that’s obviously different.

Hope the levels aren’t too bad.

Dark but Friday is the best I can say this morning.

ApricotCrush · 05/01/2024 17:32

Afternoon. I was going to say it hasn’t rained today but looking outside… it’s raining.

Whilst beginning to type this I thought I’d look up when 12th night is this year and it’s TODAY so we’ve just had a mad panic to get everything down. I’m not normally superstitious but we’ve had such a bloody bad year that I’m not taking any chances. Hmm

Hope the flooding isn’t too bad where you are Helen.

Have a good evening all. Wine

LetUsPrey · 05/01/2024 20:47

Evening wenches.

I looked it up earlier today Apricot about twelfth night and taking decorations down. Apparently CofE count from Christmas Day so that makes it tidy, Catholics count from Boxing Day which makes it tomorrow. We’re one of each here (loosely) so most things are down and away, but the tree’s still up and the rest of the stuff will get properly packed away tomorrow because we’re both too knackered tonight to do a proper job

DS2’s SportingActivity started again tonight so it was back to waiting in a cold car park.

Work was full on again. I really need to get an early night.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/01/2024 22:26

Evening. The manshapes here are also out being sporting, and I've done nothing about getting decorations down. oops.
Flooding here isn't too bad thank goodness, though a local school has been shut today, and school buses have been diverted.
Work was the usual 'start of month budgeting' tedium.
<Runs off to start pulling down tinsel>
<hopes LetUs has got to bed>

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 06/01/2024 09:07

Morning wenches.

<detangles Helen from the tinsel>

I did not in fact get an early night because I’m an idiot. Not been very productive so far today and I do have quite a lot to do. So I shall probably just carry on sitting here, watching Poirot.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/01/2024 09:56

FFS LetUs - it was 9am - no-one should be expected to be productive before 9am on a Saturday. Enjoy Poirot, you deserve down-time.

Decorations are all down here now, apart from cards and the tree itself - seems a bit mean to put it outside just as the weather is meant to turn colder. Oh. And the one on the TV that I've just noticed. And the advent calendar. Ok. Well, the lights and tinsel are all down.

DH and DS are off to the usual Sporty stuff - with enough fuss and noise and stress getting out the door that sleeping in isn't an option. So there's a wash on as well. I was hoping for a bit of a breeze to let it dry outside, I'm not convinced though. Speaking of washing, my hair needs to be dunked. Behold the excitement of my life Hmm

OP posts:
WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 06/01/2024 13:27

-20 there this morning, lovely Hmm It's supposed to be warmer next week though.

Hope you've recovered after the visit to the dentist Fancy, and how cute with the squirrel peering in trough the window Smile

Hope all wenches has a good, relaxing day Smile
