Thread 175 - will we never shut up?! Pull up a chair and have a good whinge about domestic tedium and annoyingly fictional HBFs... (once we've finished the other thread).

Afternoon. No frost here either, but very cold.

We had DS's kids here today and DD came round for a chat which was nice.

I'm impressed with the fair isle LetUs, I haven't got the concentration or patience. Hmm

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/11/2023 18:54

Evening. It's been chilly here too, but I got the garden pots away into the greenhouse, so hopefully they'll all overwinter fine. The water is still pouring over the floodwall again, and the road is underwater, but the levels seem to be holding relatively steady in the garden. Finger crossed (water-wings on).

Lasagne for tea tonight - I've just made the cheese sauce. Grin
Hope everywench has had a good day. Hurrah for visiting family apricot Grin

Evening wenches.

Eeeek at the water levels Helen. I really hope you get a decent dry spell.

Lovely to have family round for a visit Apricot.

I”ve ironed and visited and knitted and done bath’n’book.

FancyFancy · 26/11/2023 21:35

Have been away for the weekend at a friend's house - first time I'd visited since she moved there, so that was lovely. We generally just mooched around & walked her dog - perfect autumn activities Grin
Advent calendars have been ordered, one has already arrived & I have actually ordered a Christmas present Shock

We had a frost here yesterday - hope all wenches are managing to stay warm <shivers>

LetUsPrey · 27/11/2023 07:26

Morning wenches.

That does sound a rather lovely way to spend a weekend Fancy.

DS2 needs a new winter coat. The one he had last year no longer fits. You’d have thought I’d got the hang of this children growing thing.

Suppose I’d better get going.

<checks log pile for wench wintry fire supplies>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/11/2023 09:01

Morning all. It's raining and grey and chilly, but not overly cold. We have lost Houdiini hen. <tae - she's dead> Le sigh - she was looking fairly ropey yesterday, and the usual burial spot in under 8 inches of water.

Dooom at needing a new coats LetUs - still are the Black Friday sales still going? Mountain Warehosue is forever sending me 'offers'.

Ramps up Tav heating for wenches with frost... (and everyone else)

Afternoon. Rain all day but I think it’s stopped now.

That’s rather worrying about the flooding Helen and Sad about Houdini, she was a real character.

Nothing going on here.

LetUsPrey · 27/11/2023 19:16

Evening wenches.

RIP HoudiniHen. I’m imagining the Norse style (no idea if that’s accurate or just in the films) burial, sailing away on a little boat.

Much rain here this morning. The day started out with shit traffic and went downhill from there. The heating at work, which has been limping along since it almost went completely last cold spell, seems to have decided to go completely. Even worse traffic coming home. DS2 is in a panic about college work but I can’t figure out why because he won’t talk about, just shouts at me, and DH wants to chat. I don’t even want to escape to the bath because I’ll get disturbed in there. I just wanted to get home, have dinner and then get on with some knitting. I might just cry instead.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/11/2023 21:15

Evening all.
<wraps LetUs in HBFs> that all sounds very stressful, and the cold office just FTFO and then FO a bit more. Hope all is ok.

DS's first day of mocks went well, so obviously he's refusing to revise for tomorrow's. <le enormous sigh/eye roll>

Houdini was, sadly, sent to a watery grave rather than a Viking funeral. I did think about trying to make a pyre for her, but the bonfire is a little island and I suspect that nothing would get above a smoulder. (singed badly roasted chicken, anyone?!) I did manage to find a nice hedge spot where the water table was a spade's depth below the surface, but she may be preserved for posterity, bog-man style. I think that the tide should be starting to drop now, so that will help matters a bit. Heaven help us if this is going to happen every spring tide for the whole winter.

Morning wenches.

Lots of deep breathing going on this morning. I will be calm, I will be calm. I will not keep clenching my jaw. It will allllllll be fine.

<Paddington hard stare> at MiniHelen which I’m sure will just bounce off the TeenShield.

I shall raise a glass this evening to bog-chicken and her discovery in the centuries to come.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/11/2023 09:46

LOL at 'TeenShield' - yes, I'm sure he probably has one of those. anything that get's through can be repelled be TheHuff Grin

Sunrise may have been quite pretty once it got going, but I was busy and didn't see anything after the gold-rimmed clouds and the beam of sunlight shining up through a gap in said clouds.

It is cold, and I have to work. <le enormous yawn>

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 28/11/2023 17:05

Afternoon. Cooooold. Daaaaaark. I've just come back from the dental hygienist. Why I accepted an appointment for 4 o'clock I have no idea, the traffic was horrendous both ways.

Poor LetUs, I hope you've had a better day today. <cwtch>

Awww at bog-chicken. Sad

Hope MinHelen's mocks went well in spite of no revision. Hmm

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 28/11/2023 17:37

Tons of snow today, so glad I work from home. Remember the good old days when I got stuck in the snow with my car or the two times I ended up in the ditch Confused

RIP Houdini hen Sad

Did you order a cheese calender Fancy?

Evening wenches.

Today was on a par with yesterday but it’ll all be fine eventually.

Hope MiniHelen did well.

No no and no again to that snow Wicked. Phew for you not having to be out in it.

Urgh at late afternoon appointment Apricot.

I plan to not do very much this evening.

LetUsPrey · 29/11/2023 07:37

Morning wenches.

Would have been quite happy to stay in bed and not see the world for a few days this morning.

Much heavier frost today, although not quite at the levels in Wicked’s photo Grin

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/11/2023 08:09

Wurgle... headless chicken mode... (friend coming to stay, panic tidying & de-cat-hairing, etc)

Was frosty this morning, bird bath had a layer of ice, but not cold enough to give us an ice rink at the bottom of the garden.

Hope everyone has a good day. more<cwtch> and <hbfs> for LetUs re. life and Fancy re. parents and everyone else because frankly, we deserve them.

Afternoon. Nice day but very cold. I did Lidl this morning and managed to get some nice Christmas cards from a local shop.

Eeeeek at that snow WW. Hope Helen didn’t get much. It’s going to be -4 overnight but no snow forecast.

Hope LetUs’s work have sorted the heating out.

Misty has her annual vet visit tomorrow. She was quite chilled about it last year so hopefully she’ll be alright.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/11/2023 19:13

Evening. cold, cold, cold. the snow melted away fairly quickly, but it's cold.

I have been to the dentist and had a filling re-done. That's pretty much all the excitement here. Hmm

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 29/11/2023 20:48

Evening wenches.

Work heating continues to be temperamental although veering to the more well behaved side of things. Bloody cold walking to and from the car park though. I am contemplating a full balaclava. There’s a 1940s (I think) pattern for one on the V&A Museum website Grin

Hurrah for nice Christmas cards Apricot. Must write the bulk of ours before we’re at a family party on Friday as I can distribute lots of them then. Good luck to tomorrow with Misty.

Oooooo Helen, I took DS2 for a dental appointment this evening to have a filling re-done. Spooky!

I may go and attempt to help a good night’s sleep with a bath’n’book. Flipping need it.

LetUsPrey · 30/11/2023 07:42

Morning wenches.

Bath’n’book didn’t particularly help but it was lovely and warm.

It’s very brrrrrrr again today but next week it’s supposed to be up to 8° and warmer overnight than it currently is during the day.

Hope Misty behaves today and the vet doesn’t experience blood loss <memories of LetUsCat>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 30/11/2023 09:45

Morning all. It's cold and frosty outside, but also lots of blue skies and sunshine, so it doesn't feel as cold as it is, iyswim. The ground is also soft underfoot, despite the frost, so it wasn't that cold overnight.

IdiotKitty doesn't like the vet, but he's mostly well behaved about it (too scared to misbehave?) He's currently walking about chirruping, which is usually a sign that he's bored and likely to attack anything that takes him fancy<nto> Oh joy.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · 30/11/2023 16:43

Afternoon. Maximum 3 degrees.<nto> here today although very sunny all day. Looking forward to it getting warmer.

Misty was very good at the vet’s. I forgot her vaccination record booklet Blush but can take it in tomorrow. All these appointments get me very stressed but I don’t think there’s anything until after Christmas so I can concentrate on that now.

DH has got the trees and decorations out of the roof snd is having the usual fight with the lights. Hmm

LetUsPrey · 30/11/2023 20:21

Evening wenches.

Ordered stuff including a few gifts arrived today. One of the things was missing. Turns out it went out of stock after I’d ordered it but I never got an email from them about it. Have got a refund though, but now I’m down a gift. This is one reason I prefer to go into a shop. Would help if there were any decent ones still open near home or work.

Well done Misty Star but not a sticky one. MrApricot doesn’t have to go up on the roof does he? With lights?

Hope you stayed un-attacked Helen.

Have written most of the Christmas cards. Yeah me!

LetUsPrey · 30/11/2023 20:22

Also I did a proper Grin at 3 degrees <nto>
