Evening wenches.

<helps Helen with the plums>

Hope the yarn grows on you Apricot. I’d be wandering towards the cockerel with a packet of paxo.

Quite/very knackered. I’m watching the athletics but I’ve made the mistake of sitting in the same room and watching with DH. Good lord, but he knows an awful lot about athletics and - lucky me - is very keen to share that knowledge!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/08/2023 20:21

Evening. It's daaaaaaaaark :( And I chucked a spider out of the bath today. Autumn is on us.

Plums have been picked, and some need surgery to be edible. Tomatoes have also been picked. Blackberries need to be picked. And a load of washing has been done. I've also pulled up some nettles and my forearms are appropriately tingly from the fight-back.

Sympathies on the cockerel Apricot - they're noisy sods, at all times. Also sympathies to LetUs on the enthusiastic sharing of athletics knowledge when you're just trying to admire the general athleticism. <tae>

LetUsPrey · 26/08/2023 08:29

Morning wenches

Alllll the rain here. Some thunder last night.

That does indeed all sound very autumnal Helen.

We’ve got the women’s marathon on. DH has obviously been sharing his expertise (suppose he has at least run a marathon but still ssshhhhh).

FancyFancy · 26/08/2023 11:30

Morning, relaxing this morning watching athletics, fortunately with only the pundits on the TV to offer me their opinions!

Well done to DGD apricot, more lovely news. FancyMan's DS also got what he needed for sixth form, so now needs to decide whether to stay or or go to college - nice to have the choice.

Thunder is predicted here today, what's the chances of actually getting any? <grumbles>

Spent yesterday doing some gardening - visit to the garden centre included naturally. Bought some gorgeous climbing roses to grow up the repaired wall/fence. Also took FancyCat to the vet for her regular meds and got some more for her allergy flare up. Bloody hell she's expensive 🙀

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/08/2023 12:07

Afternoon wenches. It's nice and sunny here, so I feel I should be outside doing something. Not least, investigating why the chickens were kicking off earlier.

I've done a bit of tidying...

ApricotCrush · 26/08/2023 16:43

Afternoon. Sunshine and showers here.

Eeeeeek at spider season upon us.

Grin at MrLetUs sharing his athletics expertise. I get the same with football. DH is an ex-goalie and he’s always imparting his knowledge to me and at the screen to whoever is playing at the time. ‘In my day…’. Hmm

Hope Fancy got her thunderstorm.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/08/2023 17:39

I bought a piano, yikes! It’s a portable one, I really would like a classic one but they’re kind of heavy Confused I always wanted to learn 😀

LetUsPrey · 26/08/2023 18:12

Evening wenches.

I picked the right time for a walk this afternoon. It’s throwing it down now and we’ve had some thunder.

I think the “in my day….” would push me over the edge Apricot.

Well done to FancyMan’s DS - excellent news. BestFriend often tells me about her various vet expenses, but it’s all obviously worth it. Pity they can’t get a job though Grin

Visions of the chickens tooling up with knives and wearing bandanas and little leather waistcoats, clicking their feathers menacingly…

Oooo Wicked that’s exciting! Good luck with learning (here’s hoping your brain is more co-operative than mine!)

FancyFancy · 26/08/2023 22:56

Nope, no thunder Angry
We did at least get some rain, so the water butt isn't completely empty at least.

LetUsPrey · 27/08/2023 09:14

Morning wenches.

We had all the rain all the time last night. One more thunderclap but that was it.

Usual Sunday stuff but I think I’ll leave the ironing until tomorrow because I like to live life on the edge.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/08/2023 10:12

Morning all. We had thunder rumbling around yesterday afternoon, but well away form us - the sort of thing that makes you stop to try and work out if it's a heavy lorry or thunder. We get a little bit of rain, but I mostly got loads of gardening done.

DHs and sports commentary... <le enormous sigh> I cling to the viewpoint that they're trying to share their interests with us and think we're equally fascinated. Which also makes them oblivious to that fact that we've never shown any interest in the past and are unlikely to start now unless there's some FAF playing tbh, I wasn't even bothered by the women's world cup. I mean - yay, go the women. But also. Football - meh.

Yay for the keyboard Wicked - enjoy! (electric is much less faffy that the real thing - no tuning issues, and hopefully fewer 'sticky' keys as well!

<snort> at getting the Tav Cats to earn some money. If you could get a job that involves sleeping most of the day, with the odd spell awake for meals I'd be there already.

ApricotCrush · 27/08/2023 17:45

Afternoon. A bit of sunshine and showers again.

Oooo, yay for piano WW. I've never been musical. Listening to it yes, but not playing. My mum could play the violin when she was young, but obviously didn't pass it down to me. Hmm

I've spent the day mostly ironing and knitting. DD has returned from holiday and popped round for a chat. We're going out for a carvery later.

LetUsPrey · 27/08/2023 18:03

Evening wenches.

As far as the athletics are concerned, it’s more that DH “knows everything” about it and “knows better” on occasion re some of the decisions made by the athletes and their techniques. Because he’s an expert obviously.

Grin at your ideal job Helen. Hopefully they’ll have more than the one vacancy.

Similar weather here Apricot. My two sisters take after my mum way more than I do - household skills, organising stuff, things like that. I like to think I take after my maternal grandma with the knitting (although I feel I can still hear little tuts and tiny exasperated sighs when I’m knitting Grin)

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/08/2023 23:24

Evening all.

We mostly had sunshine today, and then big ploppy rain just as I was getting home from a bike ride, so good timing. There was also thunder rumbling about, but nothing dramatic.

Today has all been mostly cleaning. <le exhausted sigh>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/08/2023 10:47

Morning all. It's bank holiday Monday, so it's looking like rain here.

LetUsPrey · 28/08/2023 13:20

Afternoon wenches. Could have sworn I’d posted this morning. Obviously not.

Ploppy rain is an excellent description Helen. We seem to be dry and breezy here so I’ve a wash on meaning it will no doubt start tipping it down in about an hour.

Ironing done. Went out with DH and bought a much needed new mattress which will be delivered in a few weeks. Not really got any plans for the rest of the day apart from knitting.

ApricotCrush · 28/08/2023 17:23

Afternoon. The forecast sunshine never materialised this morning, and I’m cold. It’s still August and I’m cold. I refuse to get winter clothes out because we’re in them long enough. Sad

Today I’ve been mainly knitting with a bit of housework in between.

OP posts:
FancyFancy · 28/08/2023 18:45

Evening, have spent the day with FancyMan, have not done too much really - went for a quick walk. It's not that warm here either, but after the heat on holiday I don't feel I can complain!

Anyhow, athletics has finished, it was very enjoyable, if time consuming. Will actually have to crack on with chores now. Tomorrow 🤣

LetUsPrey · 28/08/2023 20:22

Evening wenches.

Pretty much as your day went Apricot. Knitting interspersed with housework. The rain did indeed start about 10 minutes before the wash finished.

There’s always that well what’s on to watch now after something likes the athletics finishes isn’t there Fancy?

We started watching The Woman in the Wall last night on BBC1. Was very good. Next part tonight.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/08/2023 22:56

Evening all. We didn't have rain in the end, so I did gardening and general tidying in the house. Not that you'd really notice Hmm
I was wondering about the Woman in the Wall - glad to hear it's good. I'll try and get it on catch-up tomorrow.

Am impressed with the mattress buying, mainly because we keep saying that we will, but not actually doing it. FFS and all that.

LetUsPrey · 29/08/2023 07:40

Morning wenches.

It’s taken us a good while of saying we need a new mattress to actually doing anything about it Helen.

Dreary morning here matched by me feeling quite dreary too. Weird dreams that I can’t remember have left me feeling all out of sorts and doooooom.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/08/2023 09:31

Oooooooooh - weird dreams. I was on a Geography field trip with friends from work, headed up by The Batch (which was a completely unremarkable thing in my dream). He was quite disappointed because we'd run out of time to see a particular mountain up close - we could see it from a university that we were in. Then I went to look closer (wandering to another part of the building) and got lost, and couldn't work out how to get back to the minibus - the usual dream anxiety thing where the layout of buildings change (into an indoor quarry?!) when you turn around. Confused

I think that the quarry bit got dredged up from holidays (https://www.zipworld.co.uk/adventure/caverns which was waaay beyond my comfort zone - but I kind of want to do it again to see if, having done it once, it would be more enjoyable/less terrifying second time around).

ApricotCrush · 29/08/2023 17:04

Afternoon. Showery and dull. I went to Lidl this morning and managed to dodge the showers.

We've had DGS today and he's kept himself amused on his gadgets and fighting with DH. They practice the karate moves. HmmThe weather wasn't conducive to doing anything.

We've recorded the Woman in the Wall. We're watching the Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Prime at the moment. It's a bit creepy but good.

I'm not surprised you had a weird dream after that Zip World thing Helen. Shock

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 29/08/2023 20:06

Evening wenches.

That would definitely prompt some odd dreams Helen! Perhaps The Batch is making his way along the dreams?

It’s sometimes tricky when the weather’s crap Apricot. He sounds a good boy (obviously) and I bet he has a fab time at your house.

Fairly crap day at work where yet again the “one rule for some, one for others” has been thoroughly demonstrated.

I’ve started a new knitting project - football kit for a teddy bear. Obviously Grin

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/08/2023 22:37

Aww at teddy bear football kit. Nothing wrong with that - I have a Paddington on a rugby strip, complete with ball attached to his paw Grin
If I see that Batch again, I'll send him your way LetUs.
apricot - at least they're not wielding light sabers - that's very traumatic for any ceiling lights (and the actual ceiling) round here Confused
The rain has arrived here this evening, so I have washing draped around the house. Other than that, I was WorkyMcWorkFace today. So tomorrow I must visit a supermarket (because I was planning to today, but it didn't happen).
