if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

No I wouldn't. Sorry.

ComeOVeneer · 04/02/2008 11:40

No here as well I'm afraid.

mishymoo · 04/02/2008 11:42

No definitely not. What happens if your neighbour had to pop out or fell asleep and didn't hear your child? Worse still, what if there was a fire? Too risky for me!

charliecat · 04/02/2008 11:44

No. You cant hear fire. Dont.

MrsPuddleduck · 04/02/2008 11:44

Can you not ask your neighbour to look after him? If they have a monitor they are no less likely to be woken up than if he was in their house.

HuwEdwards · 04/02/2008 11:45

Sorry, but no.

Sidge · 04/02/2008 11:46

FAQ · 04/02/2008 12:10

are there no childminders in your area that do nights (I've noticed we've got a few round here) - it may work out cheaper than a babysitter would.

bubblepop · 04/02/2008 12:45

no, definately not. sorry

Nappyzone · 04/02/2008 12:49

nope - fire, gas leak , silent child snatcher who doesnt shout loudly 'coooey hello i have come to steal you over the monitor' - i would aproach neighbour and ask if you could settlle them asleep at theres and collect in am for a small charge or investigate a night nanny from lolcal college - reputable student who wants to be paid for sleeping etc...

hunofmonsters · 04/02/2008 12:57

not a chance

Buda · 04/02/2008 13:00

No way.

jesuswhatnext · 04/02/2008 13:00

it is against the law (rightly so)

juuule · 04/02/2008 13:03

Is it against the law? I didn't think it was. I didn't think there was a minimum age to leave a child alone.

tiredemma · 04/02/2008 13:04

what hours are you talking about here? all night?

hunofmonsters · 04/02/2008 13:05

aside from risks of fire etc, what if they woke up being sick? could your neighbour wake up, find your keys, get into your house and up to your child quick enough?

There has been once or twice with DS2 when he has started to choke on his vomit because he has been trying to scream as it was coming out.

Also, how scary would it be for the child to wake up and there is no one in the house?!

rosybud · 04/02/2008 13:05

Not a chance, no way

Lulumama · 04/02/2008 13:05

at the risk of being repetitive. no. for all the reasons mentioned. if a babysitter costs more than you earn, then is it is not worth taking that partic job. how much is a babysitter where you are.. more than #5 an hour?
