e-tickets not transferable...trapped!

I have bought my son and DIL and their young children tickets in their city to see Disney on Ice in November. You get sent straight to TicketMaster...there was no choice other than e-tickets. I looked that up and it said they could be transferred and you could print them out (I have a printer - do it all the time) so I booked. four tickets £160. I now find out that they are nontransferable and unprintable and the purchaser has to be present at the door as the tickets will only be available on their (my) phone. I am deeply distressed by this. I can't go there. I have already told the family they are very excited. I don't know what to do. Have any other Mumsnetters come across this?
I have tried contacting TicketMaster to no avail.

OP posts:
skyeisthelimit · 03/06/2022 14:51

OP - these are your words If the lead booker has to attend for your event, this will be made clear on our website when you book."
It then lists events for which this applies. Disney on Ice not included.

So you have posted yourself that the Lead Booker does not need to attend that event??? or did you type the wrong thing out?

Anyway, as so many people have said - all you need to do is give them your login details, so they download the app and log in to your account. All the venue are interested in is scanning the tickets, they don't have time for anything else.

GellerYeller · 03/06/2022 14:56

Please don't screenshot tickets as they have security features that are digital. Ticketmaster customer services should help you and you have months to sort this out before the event.

Fancylike · 03/06/2022 14:57

This must be a wind up now, I will not believe someone can be this obtuse.

Siepie · 03/06/2022 15:04

OP, if you're finding this confusing, are your son or DIL more comfortable with technology than you are?

If you show them this thread, I'm sure they'll be able to work it out.

Teeheehee1579 · 03/06/2022 15:08

I would not believe someone could be this obtuse but as a company we deal with tickets that have exactly these rules (not shows or concerts) but you can do exactly as everyone has suggested and you cannot explain enough times what they need to do to let someone else use them. It makes me wonder how they survive daily life sometimes.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 03/06/2022 15:12

I don't know why people are pretending this is straightforward, OP. Clearly the only solution is for your son to get a sex change and spend the next six months learning how to imitate you in every way, engage a criminal gang to transfer your phone's IMEI to a fresh phone (to ensure no trace of fingerprints), then both you and your son burn off your fingerprints just in case, then come November he can HOPEFULLY get past the CIA-level identity checks at Disney on Ice Manchester and use the tickets.

It's a long shot but hopefully the security will be distracted enough to swallow it.

AutumnSquill · 03/06/2022 15:13

I have been asked for ID at a gig when my ticket print out didn't scan successfully. I think they just wanted something that matched the name on the tickets. If you can't get the ticket transferred, giving your DS/DIL your login and some other ID of yours should be OK.
I have successfully used someone else's photo ID to get tickets: they have rules to check things, but you can work around most of them.

SwishSwishBisch · 03/06/2022 15:15

Good grief a thread hasn’t made me want to bang my head against a wall like this for AGES 😂
OP, you definitely win the prize for most wilfully obtuse of the day!

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 03/06/2022 15:20

OP, could you please let us know what happens as I find TicketMaster very confusing.

ProfessionalWeirdo · 03/06/2022 15:31

Is it worth contacting Watchdog or Rip-Off Britain about this?

SomePosters · 03/06/2022 15:36

I often wonder wether the posters here are as astoundingly rude when they don’t have the anonymity of the internet to hide behind

if you’re finding the thread so stressful you can close it and do some breathing exercises

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 03/06/2022 15:40

You can screen shot the tickets, I did this recently with ticket master tickets for a concert.

On the door they just scan the barcode.

User487216 · 03/06/2022 15:41

So do you have to have a smartphone to go to a concert nowadays

MallMoo · 03/06/2022 15:49

I recently attended a gig where I bought the tickets on ticket master. If you download the ticket master app and log in to your account there should be an option to add the tickets to your Apple wallet ( if you have an iPhone) and you can then send them to whoever you like via your Apple wallet. Fingers crossed this works for you!

I had brilliant customer service from them earlier this year.
They got me accessible tickets as the system wouldn't let me book them, and then refunded the one I had.
I basically got two better seats for less than the one I had.
That was a sold out insane/clogging up the system gig too.
If you resell using them, the new tickets will have the new person name on, just did it last Sunday for Pet Shop Boys, and again on Tuesday for The Killers.

You can also list your tickets for resale and get them back whenever you want if they haven't sold, I've done that this year too.
I honestly can't fault them so far, but you do need to check terms.
I currently have three tickets that can't be transferred or sold, but I knew that when I bought them, and I still could give a friend access to my account so they could use them.
(I'm not though, Harry Styles baybeeee)

Pretty much.
Some have the option of a ticket but only for memorabilia purposes, you can't get in with it.

You can get into most shows with a physical ticket, they really aren’t posted out for memorbilia purposes.

user1471538283 · 03/06/2022 16:11

Twitter the company and explain. There has to be a way around this!

Purringcat3 · 03/06/2022 16:14

OP this isn’t a big deal. Screenshot the tickets or give your login.

screenshotting does not affected the data - it’s a scannable code that would work even if it were printed out on paper .

BlueLoving · 03/06/2022 16:18

When my mum paid for an event and it was like this she just gave me her login details and her bank card and me and DD got into the event fine, they never asked for the card and only briefly looked at the tickets.

No, no, I meant some you can get a separate memorabilia ticket that really won't get you in, they're meant to be saved.
I didn't mean printable tickets won't get you in.
You get the free e-ticket on your phone too.
I'm not sure I've explained this well!

That's not what people are saying. Screenshots are not accepted as a security feature, it's expected you log in and show the 'live' ticket.

I haven’t ever been asked to log in, it’s just expected to be on the screen. At the last show I was at the queues were told to have the code ready onscreen. could have easily been a screenshot

It’s to show it’s a valid real ticket. Not so daft.
