Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:

no san camillo was where I bawled , they were the ones who informed me re the pain thing. In the end they begrudgingly said if I paid 400 euros I could have one if there was an anestesista available but wasn't a done deal. Ended up in fatebenfratelli on isola tiberina, famous for its maternity wing, its free epidurals and its fondness of c-sections and I experienced all 3.
lol re air conditioning. And if the air conditioning doesn't get you then not drying your hair totally the second you step out of a shower will!

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:17

lol lol. not to mention the infamous pancia scoperta...

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:20

God yes, I used to dry my hair on the way to work on my bicycle and my colleagues were horrified. Some were actually quite disappointed when I did not get bronchio polmonite, got told that it would get me in the end.

Lol at cessssario. All the obs when I had DD were brizzolati too. Maybe it's a job requirement...

gio71 · 21/01/2008 22:23

or just being outside in the rain, described by FIL the other day as "dangerous". And he said that in all seriousness to a girl from Manchester! Tried to explain the concept of never going out EVER in Manchester if you don't face the rain head on and he just looked appalled, no doubt at the selfishness of my parents who bought me up in such a Godforsaken place. Dire warnings of arthritis and rheumatism in later life were uttered....

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:29

One wonders how the populations of the British Isles and other northerly, wind swept places ever managed to reach adulthood. Were there no cavedwellers in Italy? I mean, caves are draughty places, aren't they?

You'll notice when you send your DS to nursery that they hardly ever go outside to play in the winter, because they might catch their death. I asked my DD's nursery why they didn't go out on cold days and they told me because a lot of mothers would complain.

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:32

lol lol lol
I must admit that in Exeter I blamed the wind and the rain for my poor health

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:33

yes, dc's nursery manager old me that they'd like to take the children out every day but mothers complain...
pazzesco

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:35

The most ironic thing is my mum, who is actually 100% Italian and grew up here, now laughs at me because I feel the cold. She tells me I've become all soft and Italian. A far cry from the days when I used to hang out the washing in the snow wearing only a Tshirt and slippers

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:35

ah they want elezioni anticipate, I think we'll be back to England sooner than we expected...

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:37

I gave DD's nursery permission to take her out whatever the weather but they can't do that or they'd all want to go out. If I was a nursery manager I wouldn't even tell the mums. After all, at DD's age, the ones that can talk well are few and far between....

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:39

Yes that Mastella thing is crap. I always thought he was a slimeball. And Prodi even crappier for standing up for him.,but then they need the UDEUR or they no longer have a majority, right? Wasn't Mastella with the destra during the last govt? Switched sides at election time?

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:44

Mastella was with the destra years ago. If the destra comesback we can wave bye bye to the 194

Brangelina · 21/01/2008 22:49

Another thing that gets on my wick, when will the Vatican realise they're now a separate country and keep the f*°§ out of Italian politics? I really don't give a toss what Cardinale Ruini thinks, no one here voted for him.

I get so depressed reading watching the news, the govt crisis, millions wasted on a stupid website, all that rubbish in Campania...

francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2008 22:56

Exactly.
I'm also quite shocked by how much they talk and talk and talk on the telly, with very undignified tones. You can't imagine this in England.

Rosa · 22/01/2008 03:55

Am off in about an hour guys as per usual woke very early and have done everything . DH staccato la Tv and it was easier to put on PC!
Rosa should be back 5 Feb but if there is a Pc I might pop in once in a while . Temps are early 20s so warm but not hot.
LOL at the Epidural status. I had to go and have an intervista with the doc a couple of weeks before hand . But in Venice no epidural out of 8-8 ( or mightbe 6) and at the weekends. I was in labour Sunday ! However the doc di turno was available and I had one - Too little too late . And teh ostetrica did not want him to do it at 8.30 said no she can wait til later !!! DD was born at 10.30 and I needed another 2 doses to stitch me up I can still hear ostetrica sayinG Signora tieni tuo bacino giu - And me saying you are putting the needle in , pulling the thread and cutting it !! IN the end I had a numb left side and when she did the right I said just tell me when you are going to stick the needle in and I will stai ferma- Voglio vedere mia figlia ! ( it had had some effect but not completley )Needless to say that afternoon I was on another planet and I tried to get them to out it on my cartella for the next one ( Like give me an epidural 6 hrs before or something !! )
well Hot enjoy your tette - hope they are not too sore.
Franca what about palla canestra for your ds as can be done inside as well ( occhio ai copli di freddo etc !!!!!)
Gio - take it your ds likes biscuits . Mine now says no to a plain one and asks for the one with stars on ( Dh is a mulino bianco addict- Give me digestives any day !)
P.s I think mastella is a wally as well non mi fido di lui x niente ...
Baci a tutti CIaooooooooo

hotHELL · 22/01/2008 10:27

Early 90s? I am extremely jealous, have fun Rosa....

Che cos'e 194?
Mastella e' un altro imbroglione. Are there any politicians you can trust in Italy though?
I remember my sister being crazy about Marco Pannella in the 70s, pro-spinello party I suppose, whatever happened to him?

hotHELL · 22/01/2008 10:31

early 20s? i meant..

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 10:45

buongiorno. buon viaggio Rosa.
no idea about crema di carciofi either.

re toxoplasmosis I did ask my gp as well who agreed to do it after face... not sure if they did it or not anyway. My pg friends in italy have them done every minute and wash everything with 'muchina' (sp) half an hour before eating!!

I know all about capelli bagnati as I never ever dry them and mum always squote la testa, especially when DD is involved! ahhh la famosa cervicale!!

HHell get used to big tette... I sometimes feel like 'sora lella'!

re italian politician in televisione... shameful!

hotHELL · 22/01/2008 11:11

Chi e' Sora Lella? Una specie di Pammy?

Brangelina · 22/01/2008 11:14

OMG what time did Rosa post!?!? She'll probably be there now, lucky thing.

Lol at the pan di stelle addiction. Luckily my DD doesn't know what they are as has not yet been exposed to them - we're a digestive only household. Either than or those Céréal apple biscuits without sugar which taste like cardboard but my DD loves them. She is also still at the stage where she will choose grissini over a digestive biscuit. Mad!

Hothell, I loved your description, I tried reading out the phrases to DP but didn't get the pronounciation quite right, so he fell about laughing at me trying to imitate an accento meridionale.

La 194 is the abortion law, here Giuliano Ferrara (aka fat pig) tried to propose a moratorium on abortions on the tail of the recent moratorium on the death penalty and a lot of the centro destra jumped in to support him and said the law needed changing. This makes me sick, I mean what does he know? Firstly, he's a man, who I don't think has children and probably hasn't even had a shag unless he's paid for it, trying to interfere in something that is ultimately a woman's prerogative. What will be next? The divorce law? I must get DP to hurry up and get his through before they decide to abolish that too.

It's all the bloody Vatican's fault, the only good thing Mussolini did was the separate Vatican city state thing, although maybe he should have gone further and transferred it to somewhere like Paraguay so they'd stop fiddling in Italian politics. Grrr

Brangelina · 22/01/2008 11:17

Here they do the toxoplasmosis at every blood test, also because it is actually statistically much more probable that you get it from eating salami or prosciutto crudo than from keeping cats. I know that none of my cat keeping friends got a positive (inc the local vet), it was usually the pet haters with a salumi habit.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 11:23

every italian che si rispetti is addicted to Mulino Bianco !

pammy, I wish! Hhell have you not seen any old old versone movies? this is sora lella! enjoy! how do you feel?

I agree with the church not meddling with the state and let's not talk about fat pig giuliano pls.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 11:24

verdone I meant. I should get up and do things...

gio71 · 22/01/2008 12:09

lol at sora lella. She had a restaurant here in Rome (still there), on isola tiberina where ds was born. When I was mid labour and it got to 1-ish DP suggested he meet FIL for lunch there!!!!!!!! . Needless to say didn't happen
Love Carlo Verdone (even though he always plays the same character.)
Yes Rosa, ds likes biscuits, as do I. Wasn't happy when biscuits went over the floor but it meant I felt justified eating crostata for breakfast as were no biscuits

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 12:41

crostata... yummi!!!

yes I did hear about the restaurant but wasn't sure whether it was real or an urban myth! Must go once. Talking of nice rest in Rome, next time we go to PG I'll def take DH to Rome (as he's never been) and I'll be asking for your tips gio!
