Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
hotHELL · 22/01/2008 15:26

yep, have seen verdone's movies, the early ones, i am relieved that i am feeling more like Pammy than Sora Lella, lol.
Feeling fine actually, a bit surprised at feeling well though, hoping not to get serious morning sickness this time round. When should i go and see the gp? is it too early around 5 weeks?

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 15:32

I went straight away which was around 5 weeks. as you know they still managed to be late on all tests etc, so I'll go as soon as you can. at least you'll be on the list.
I am glad you are feeling well, I feel quite okay too this week, not as tired as last one. I do believe there might be growth spurs (sp) at times which totally knacker you. These days I even forget I am pg at times while last week I was reminded every second of the way.

My DD is so excited about DD2, talks to her all the time, has allocated a teddy for her and part of her toys. It is very sweet. I do not think for a minute it will last but it's good to dream.

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 16:18

Hello everyone.
Rosa ... I thought my mother woke up early, but at 3, you win ! I hope you all have a lovely holiday, coming back all tanned and relaxed .
Hothell glad you are feeling better, I'd book the appoijntment with gp asap.
Pippi, come vanno i lavori???
I knew about sora lella's restaurant and I also like Verdone , especially the old movies (un sacco bello being my favourite, or borotalco? I don't know). Have to say that at some stage his movies became quite disappointing, but the other day there was one of his latest on canale 5, the one where he gets divorced from Elsa Morante, and he was really good.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 16:28

Franca I went today to choose tiles for kitchen and bathroom and yesterday got all the bathroom china and the wood for the floor etc. Quite pleased as it starts to seem real and was all on the sales !
nothing has started yet. loft def starting on 11th of feb though - everything else will follow - hopefully.
I am under no illusion that we'll be done by the time DD2 arrives, so I am preparing myself for a very stressful time (in which undoubtedly I will complain no end about DH, who by the way is abs wonderful these days and does eveything like I thought he should and I have no idea what I was going on about that day! Hormones are the scariest thing!!!!)

DD split her lip yesterday because she is so precious not wanting to dirty her hands that she does not put her in front of her when she falls (inciampa)!! I hope she learned the lesson. when we got to childminder she looked like Cujo as I, typically, didn't have anything to wipe her with!

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 16:34

Lol Pippi, it's good to know I'm not the only one who never carries wipes. My mother despairs at my disorganization. When the dc were babies she used to point out to other mother pushing tidy prams with super accessorized bags with 3 changes, 10 dummies etc etc, while I carried a nappy tutto rovinato in my backpack.
at you choosing tiles! how exciting!

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 16:40

LOL at nappie tutto rovinato. Same here. I used to go to the west-end for a brain-saving stroll with almost nothing when she was a baby. How many times did I have to run and buy a new bottle and those single pack of formula (when stopped breastfeeding) or wet wipes nappies etc. when she was a bit older we'd come home and her nappy was about to explode. she never ever complained once. (never left her with poo though).
I remember once we went to a park and it was a super hot day. they had paddling pool (which I didn't know) so DD, 1.2, went in and got absolutely soaked. I had to borrow a nappy, let her dry in the sun (all other mums with towels) and re-dress her with one of my t-shirts (luckily had two on). we were quite a picture on the tube I tell ya.

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 16:44

I'm exactly the same. Lets just say I like a bit of "improvvisazione", it's my harmless way of "rebelling" against motherhood .

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 16:49

YES THAT IS IT!!!!!! Rebellion against motherhood! That's exactly how I see it, although I must admit that at times being organised makes motherhood much easier A case of catch 22 it seems!

Have you descided where you are gloing on holiday? any suggestion for us in sept? any tips on sicily maybe?

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 16:52

England is quite more prepared on improvvisazione as you can find almost anything (bottle-formula-jar of baby food, nappies, wetwipes etc at any newsagent). we tried doing it in italy and DD almost perished !

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 17:00

yes, possibly, however there are more and more shops open on a sunday for instance now! (at least here in Milan. I still wonder whether this is good or bad ).
we are exploring the possibility of going to Peloponneso...
Sicily: I've heard lots of good things about San Vito Lo Capo (nr la riserva dello zingaro).

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 17:08

I forget you are in a 'proper' city !

I agree with being quite nice that things are closed on sunday etc, problem is one gets soon used to it.

I'll look it up. When's DH due back?

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 17:11

hopefully he'll be back on saturday (he is driving, catching the ferry on thurs). then I'm off on holiday alone for at least a week . yes, dream on!

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 17:13

(actually I really like shops open on sundays and until late, but you know, globalization, smalll shops disapppearing)

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 17:17

It does look great San Vito Lo Capo. any accomodation to recommend? I'll really look into it. at greece!

francagoestohollywood · 22/01/2008 17:23

I can actually ask a friend who went there 2 or 3 summers ago. the sea at la riserva dello zingaro is amazing. also I think san vitpo has an area pedonale for strolling with prams and pushchair. excellent local food.and probably not too busy in sept (but still v hot)
have to go now a dopo!

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 17:27

yes please do ask, it sounds the perfect place. also close to lots of things to see as well. thanks a million! got to go too, pick up DD, quick tidy up and quick dinner.

gio71 · 22/01/2008 18:29

OOh can I jump on the holiday recommendation bandwagon? We are thinking about a mountain holiday in August and would love to go North. Neither of us have a clue except we like the look of Sud Tirol. Anyone recommend anywhere? We want a small apartment (thinking agriturismo), swimming pool, warmth but fresh air not like hideous Roma in August

hotHELL · 22/01/2008 21:11

oh, lovely talk of holidays, so cold here today, been complaining all day.
your dd sounds very sweet pippi, cannot wait to tell ds of arrival of sibling. he asked me today if it is very scary to watch when babies come out of women's botties, i said 'no, no, amore, i bebe' scivolano giu' dolcemente dalle farfalline delle loro mamme'. what a lie! lol.

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2008 21:19

gio I've been to Ortisei quite a few time in winter and it is a lovely lovely place. No idea about agriturismo etc, we stayed at a lovely smallish hotel called Hotel Hell. The village is very charming. I wanted to go this summer but pointless with 3 month old baby as I won;t be able to do the walks etc (I mean I would but what if I fall on her???).

hhell sometimes dd thinks the baby is inside her belly too.

gio71 · 23/01/2008 08:39

mmmm Ortisei looks lovely Pippi. I've never been on a proper summer mountain holiday, always been a beach person. What is the weather like in August generally?
Your pg talk is making me broody pippi and hhell and very . would love a ds2 or dd, especially for ds but dp not convinced. He is a figlio unico and doesn't see whats wrong with that. I have tried to make him remember times of tremendous boredom with no brothers or sisters to play with but so far he chooses to remember the undivided attention and being spoilt rotten....

PippiCalzelunghe · 23/01/2008 09:03

I know the problem of figlio unico gio, a friend is the same, he won't budge. DH is one of two so till we found out the sex he would not even have considered three. now that we are having another girl he is changing his mind. I am one of three so 3 sounds good, but not sure I feel like being pg again etc. all depends on whether DD2 is evil or not !

august should be good in terms of heath. I've been told however that the best time to go on a mountain holiday is july as there's the best chance of great sunny weather. august could be rainy. (always a gamble though). we thought september would be too risky.

gio71 · 23/01/2008 10:16

sure dd2 will be lovely and sleep through from the start
was a bit worried about the risk of rain, problem is dp can only take holidays in aug. I know the chances are it'll be fine but it would be v dull stuck on a mountain with rain!
other thing we have thought about is the northern lakes (Garda, Como etc). Again no idea about weather, places etc so any info welcome

francagoestohollywood · 23/01/2008 10:23

Gio, we went to San Candido in Val Pusteria a few yrs ago (in winter).. I can recommend Piccolo Hotel Tempele (it has a website, but my pc's been playing upa dn can't link), it's small and lovely and has also a few mini appartamenti.
Try also google familien hotel it's a family friendly catena in sud tirolo.
August is less reliable than july in terms of sunny days, but the area has plenty of indoor spas with pools etc... ( I'm told that the spa in bressasone are great)

francagoestohollywood · 23/01/2008 10:24

bressanone

Brangelina · 23/01/2008 13:33

Ooh, I went to Val Pusteria, though nearer Dobbiaco, but again in the winter. I did go mountain walking in Austria one summer, but we stayed in this campiste that had a covered barn thing where you just picked a bunk and shared with others, so not ideal for a small child.

If you don't mind lakes, I'd suggest Valtellina/Lake Como. We go windsurfing at Colico and Gera which are right at the most northerly tip of lago di Lecco and there are loads of appartments and cottages to rent out, as well as loads of campsites. August is packed, though, and prices will probably be quite high as a lot of Germans go there. A friend of DP's stayed there with his family last summer, but it was a 3 bed villa with swimming pool and he is a dentist so it was bound to be expensive. There are some lovely lakeside (tiny) cottages at Gera with are really cute and I'm sure there are similar in less frequented areas.. From there you can either stay by the lake or do walking excursions in the nearby mountains. Things are quite well equipped for children too as it is a family holiday destination.
