Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

gemmamc · 27/02/2008 09:06

gio 71 - well that's better than being pregnant in London, definitely. At the end of the pregnancy I was huge and on crutches as I had something called SPD which affects the pelvis. Do you think people gave up their seat on buses? No! Very often I had to go up to people and ask, or just go on a rant like an old lady when I caught people deliberately looking the other way to pretend they hadn't seen me - until someone got up!

Having said that, I don't want to sound like someone who complains about the UK all the time - there are lots of other things I like!

hotHELL · 27/02/2008 09:42

hello everybody, it's sunny here in london, what a relief.
havent' watched sanremo for a very long time indeed, feel too old and cynical for it.
ds is doing very well at school, most importantly he loves going.
have you had any viewings on your house franca?
the fatebenefratelli sounds like a wonderful hospital.....

francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 12:36

rosa what is radio 80?

Hhell, glad to hear everything is well, and that ds is enjoying his school. Ds has lovely memories of his school in Exeter, he's always talking about it and his friends there, I feel . It was really a great experience for him.

Gemma SPD sounds horrible! and by the way, there aren't many in Milan who are ready to offer their seat to pg women or women with small children. IME it's usually women in their 50s and old fashioned men (often not italian) who are helpful. What I missed in Exeter was people coming to coo on your baby... I even wondered whether the dc were that ugly

francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 12:37

my babies, not your baby...

Rosa · 27/02/2008 12:42

Radio 80 is exactly that music from the 80s I think it could be semi local but its my era !!!!
DD going downhill fast She has cold and when I change her nappy she cries when I clean her 'patatina' . It doesn't look that red but she is sure not happy....

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 12:55

It's my era too .
Has she got a temperature?

TantiK · 27/02/2008 13:24

Ciao tutti - thanks for the welcomes and advice already given! I have already heard good things about the fatebenefratelli, so will aim for that once i get that BFP.

Hi Rosa - good to meet you again! The device for English TV sounded good, but I succumbed to Sky, so I can change all the Italian dubbed programmes back into English. I have now got into House (Dr. House here!) and the new series of Desperate Housewives - which I love. My ds can even watch Cbeebies first thing in the morning. Although I am starting to think he will never pick up Italian at this rate! (although when he starts asilo he will be fine!

We are in the Appio Latino area of Rome (south of San Giovanni), I don't work atm (but am starting to feel that i need to do something else!) so it gives me a chance to mix with the other English speaking mums at playgroup (I have yet to find an Italian playgroup to help improve my terrible Italian!)

I was pg in London and agree it is absolutely terrible in terms of people offering seats etc. Am now quite excited about getting pg here. I thought that the Italians may go overboard with tests, but I guess when it is your unborn child at risk all the tests possible are welcome.

It sounds like better weather in London than here where it is drizzling. grrr. Hope everyone is feeling better today.

Rosa · 27/02/2008 13:34

Yes she has - She is blocked up so have given her Baby Rinolo . She is asleep at the moment - she diddn't even want a story. She is not complaining when she wees so I don't think a urine infection but she was not happy earlier Just when I went to clean her she screamed Gave her a bidet ( see they are useful for something!). Will see at next nappy change.
Tantik don't worry your ds will pick up Italian so fast when he meets other children. Keep on with the English as well as you don't want him to loose that . Channel 611 is another good one. 502 and 603 do the odd British thing ( Bob teh builder ) but you can only put JIm Jam into English Raisat yoyo no !!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 14:10

Oh poor little thing! Not an expert in urine infections (Brangelina is, I think, where is she??? brangelinaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) I'm afraid. Maybe it's just a bit sore? Boh, as I said don't know much and tend to panic... I spoke to paed today and she said the virus gives temperature (anche 39 -40) for a few days...
Ds had still mild temp yesterday night so he's home today. again. he is lovely, but he chats for Italy. and wants to play cards the whole time...
I should get sky as well, to keep up their english and to save me from general boredom of Italian tv.
TantiK don't know if there's an Italian version of English playgroups. But you might join things like swimming classes for toddlers or music thingys (lots in Milan at the moment). Actually here it seems to be more on offer for small children, even soft play areas!!!

francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 14:12

("more" compared to what was on offer 8 yrs ago before I moved to the UK. I didn't even have children then, so didn't really take notice of what was going on... and all my friends with children were at work, so I had a long list of good asili nido...)

Rosa · 27/02/2008 14:15

Thats it moving to Milan . I want soft play ares for dd she adores them. I am tempted to take her to Ikea just so she can play in the ball pool!
Franca get Sky it is worth it...DIsney for the little ones, BBC Prime for you they do some good dramas as well.We have stopped skymovies as it was not worth it. We tend to watch either discovery , mondo / cutura/or the general ones.
DD febbre was just over 38 but it had been up and down a bit since yesterday.
How is your cold ? I guess Brangelina must be under the weather as well.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 27/02/2008 14:25

Yes, come here, there's plenty on offer (even really poncey stuff, a bit too much for me... have many friends who are inflicting music lessons with the suzuki method to 4 yrs old...)...
do you need to ask permission to the landlord to install the dish??
yes, ds's temperature went up and down but never higher than 38.4 (on the first day)

Rosa · 27/02/2008 20:57

We had to check that it was ok - It was more access to the roof really. As long as we did not damage the roof etc . I think that somebody else has tapped into ours as well!
DD went up to 39 ( well 39.5 on the mercury one and 39 on the infrared ear one) so we are monitoring . She is not happy though ...Will see in the morning

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 28/02/2008 08:27

How is dd today rosa? did she manage a good night sleep? Mine slept more than 12 hrs this morning... and they are both home, as ds is still coughing and dd vomited yesterday just after dinner....

Rosa · 28/02/2008 09:22

Restless night- she has a nasty cough and her temp was 38 at 7am . We ended up giving Nuroflex as well last night as after 3 hrs of TacchiP she was still 39. She is more in voglia after Tacchip and has eaten a bit of breakfast. She is a battuta though. SOunds as if our dc have the same thing - I hope she doesn't throw up as she gets so upset !
So another day for you playing cards and TV ???

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 28/02/2008 09:34

Oh dear . Paracetamol doesn't work that much with my dd as well and we usually give her nurofen.
They are in a great mood and have been playing together nicely, while I tidy up/clean/mn... don't know how long it'll last but my aunt is coming in an hour, I'll have a break!!
Hope she'll feel better today, piccolina.

hotHELL · 28/02/2008 09:39

Poor you with sick children, always a worry. I am myself about to go back to bed as i have flu, so no fun in our household, luckily ds is in school.

francagoestohollywood · 28/02/2008 16:11

oh no hhell!
I made the big mistake to show ds the first episodes of "Lady Oscar" and now he's been asking me a 1000 about kings queens maria antonietta, france, revolution etc.
heeelp!!!!!!!

gemmamc · 28/02/2008 17:29

watch it! Mio nephew became obsessed about la gigliottina after hearing about it in some story about the French revolution...and constantly asked his parents to explain what it was to him...!

francagoestohollywood · 28/02/2008 17:33

lol! ds seems obsessed with different shapes of swords...

gio71 · 28/02/2008 19:01

How are your DCs Franca and Rosa? Hows the flu Hhell? Pants day at work today so about to open the red wine, and maybe steal kinder chocolate...
Do you go to a playgroup already TantiK? Which one? Don't know your area well-is it Re di Roma way- thats where dp works and is only place I know past San Giovanni.
Franca you should def get sky, worth it for BBC Prime, my mornings generally consist off putting back the moment of starting work til got my fill of No Going Back, Location Location etc etc. Maybe thats not selling it. Hate the fact only got sky news though not BBC 24. Had a rant on MN the other day re sky news, CAN'T BEAR IT.

TantiK · 28/02/2008 19:53

Hi Gio71 - we are just a bit further south than Re di Roma, although we can often be found frequenting the park that is in the middle of the roundabout there! The playgroup I go to is in the centre, there is an English group who meet pretty regularly - which is really nice. Do you know of any others? Would love to try out a non-english one. (although I would struggle to keep up with the language - am getting there though).
Franca and Rosa
Hope the kids are now sleeping soundly and not too unwell. My ds has taken a big shine to a toy Fiat500 (new style) and won't sleep without it. I would so love to get one of the real ones - but not an ideal family car I think. They are so retro and I love them!

Now I am off to watch something on sky. Buona Notte

hotHELL · 28/02/2008 20:03

sky news is very sensationalistic, pity you cannot get bbc24 gio.
franca poor you, i go mad with ds asking questions over questions, what age will they stop? my flu is better, ds is getting it, if he gets ill it means he is at home with me tomorrow, and i so much wanted some time to myself!!!! hellppppppp!

Rosa · 28/02/2008 20:03

Thanks guys she is still running a high temp and we are alternating with Nurofen and Paracetamol. Cough is not much better , runny nose and she slept at 12.00 for an hour then another 30 mins in braccio so as a result I am shattered as I was up most of last night so I am placing bets that I will get the bug seeing as I have been sneezed , coughed , snotted on !
Off to bed after Top gear as I like a good laugh GET SKY !!!!!!
As for Sky news dont watch it I watch Fox when something happens or CNN or BBC World when Again I want something indepth that has happened in the UK . Gotta go its started and dh has it in Italian and wont change til I move ...The best bits are Hammond and Clarksons comments stuff the cars !

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 28/02/2008 20:27

Hi everybody. The children are in bed, they seem fine, I'm going to send them to asilo tomorrow, they are going to the theatre.
Yes, I should get sky I know, but dread to ask the permission to our landlord, actually his nephew who is possibly the rudest person I have ever met.
Tantik, a friend of mine gave me a lift on her new fiat 500, it's fab! (and normally I don't care much about cars). In the late 80s there were still lots of people driving the old 500. I miss them.
