Hi..

Just wondered what people's views were on Ulrika / her book / her date rape allegations??

I personally am not that interested in her life but wonder why she wants to reveal all!!

OP posts:
Bobbins · 23/10/2002 15:42

Well I blimmin well hope so, and I think it should be on date rape. We need to see how he reacts.

I do hope he doesn't wimp out of doing tomorrow's show.

Meid · 23/10/2002 15:46

Is anyone surprised at all this? I am surprised about Mr Walkers Crisps. But not JL. Yes, he's a nice looking, smart man but always came across as creepy/slimey to me.

jac · 23/10/2002 15:47

He does has 1 day off a week, bloomin part timers! only joking. Don't know what day though.

I saw the end of todays programme and they interviewed that Mr Right who is the subject of a TV programme presented by UJ, guess who wasn't interviewing him??!!

bundle · 23/10/2002 16:15

I agree with Meid, I'm more upset re: JL than crispy face...yuk. bayleaf - did you see he's trying to save Leicester City fc today, by pitching in some money? I suppose it'll take his mind off things...
this thread gets better & better

Bozza · 23/10/2002 16:55

I am shocked about the crispy one - ruined my teenage illusions...(I was 13 in 1986 when he won the Golden Boot in Mexico) Are you sure?! Have less of an opinion about JL. Think Ulrika has been a bit short-sighted in all this. And can't avoid coming back to the fact that she must be attention-seeking/publicity craving (a la Edwina - as mentioned by someone else)- what else was going to happen? Can't believe she has an altruistic motive in preventing the same thing happening to someone else. Am I too cynical?

ticklebyday · 23/10/2002 17:01

I've always had a bit of a crush on the crispy one - I always thought of him as being the cute, wholesome boy next door type, mind you I always though that he had a mischevious twinkle in his eye

Bozza · 23/10/2002 17:12

Yes but ticklebyday - wasn't that part of the charm? I'm going to have to cross him off my Celeb one night stand list. Sounds like he's been there and done that already.

bundle · 23/10/2002 17:26

Bozza, can Ulrika be so naive as to believe that her leaving out his name would guarantee his anonymity? she more than most understands the power of the media, so maybe it's her way of exorcising her demons.

ScummyMummy · 23/10/2002 17:26

Good gracious... things have moved on since yesterday. Looks like mumsnet has it's finger on the rumour pulse, anyway!

karenanne · 23/10/2002 17:36

i just hope that ulrikas happy now.as for jl im sorry but i feel a little sorry for him,im sure this is the reaction ulrika wanted and did it only for her own twisted reasons.

kkgirl · 23/10/2002 17:37

I've missed all this as I had to go to work today.
I am really disappointed that it could be either of the people mentioned. I have always thought that both of them were really nice, "perfect gentlemen" types, but I suppose thats it. Its always the ones you would least expect.

Bobbins · 23/10/2002 17:46

there are no allegations of rape against the crispy one, just an affair with the Ka Ka KAAAA

Of course all of this is mere speculation at the moment.

The BBC health website today said that gossip is GOOD for you.

ellasmum · 23/10/2002 18:09

DP rang me today to tell me the 'breaking news' about JL - he was most miffed when I told him I had known for days (slight exaggeration!!).

Didn't reveal that I had found out on here, just let him think I was really well informed.

Can't wait for This Morning tomorrow - wonder how Fern will react??? Does she still co-present??

OP posts:
bundle · 23/10/2002 18:47

I think Fern does still present, Ellasmum (and is incidentally one of the nicest 'celebs' I've ever met )

Clarinet60 · 23/10/2002 18:50

I'm glad goss is good for you, because it's hard to stop revelling in this. I watched GM today and did think he looked rather 'out of sorts'. I don't think he'll go on the show tomorrow - surely nobody could stand that amount of stress, guilty or not guilty. Ooh-er!

Janus · 23/10/2002 18:54

Christ I haven't watched breakfast TV since daughter was young and it was one of the '101 things to do whilst breastfeeding', I shall have to revisit tomorrow, they are going to have the highest audience figures for years! I don't really know JL so can't comment but certainly don't feel sorry for him if he did do what Ulrika claims, he deserves his career to be ruined.
As for Salt and Vinegar, I'm shocked, as everyone says I always had him down for the nice, simple (!), gentleman type, not a womaniser. Hope his wife leaves him too.
Thank God for Mumsnet for keeping me on the pulse!!!

Willow2 · 23/10/2002 19:13

have just been sent v funny email with picture of JL standing in front of the wheel of fortune board - needless to say the board is almost spelling out a relevant phrase. Any idea how I could put a link to this - how could I find the website that produced it?

Willow2 · 23/10/2002 19:29

actually, just thought about it and if anyone wants a giggle email me at [email protected] and I'll forward it on to you. It's been through about 7000 virus checkers before it got to me so should be ok.

bayleaf · 23/10/2002 19:54

Well I'm standing by my crisp man even if he's guilty! We invited him to school to accept a cheque for leukemia after one of our pupils died of the disease ( given his son's illness) and he accepted straight away and was really nice to everyone ( not that I was important enough to meet him! )And I hope his wife doesn't leave him for the sake of the boys....

kkgirl · 23/10/2002 21:05

No

If it is GL I can't imagine what it would do to his wife after all their troubles. It can't be him surely

Willow2 · 23/10/2002 21:56

blimey - that email is obviously so funny it's posted twice.

SoupDragon · 23/10/2002 22:00

Have tried to find somewhere on the internet to post that picture but the only place I can think of that's quick is DS1s baby website and I don't think that's appropriate!

Rhubarb · 23/10/2002 22:36

You know everyone seems to have assumed that it is JL she is referring to and that he is guilty as charged (or not in this case!). What if she did overexaggerate it all? Why haven't the other 4 women come forward? Why has no-one ever notified the police? He used to go out with Catherine Zeta Jones and as far as we know, he never did anything like that to her, why would he need to anyway? Surely we are not all going to take Ulrika's side just because she is a woman, we know how damaging it can be when a woman falsely accuses a man of rape. If she really was raped, why isn't she pressing charges now? Or has she no evidence because it isn't there? Ulrika looks set to destroy every man who ever had contact with her, which is just not fair. Whatever crisp man did he still has a wife and kids to think about, or does she not care about that? She looks like a woman set for revenge and she doesn't care who she takes down in the process.

Thanks Scatterbrain for enlightening me by the way.

anais · 23/10/2002 23:28

Mmmm, difficult one this. I quite like UJ tbh, and while I'm not sure this is the best way to deal with the situation (particularly not having gone to the police in the 1st place) I agree with whoever said that it must have been a big thing in her life and she has every right to mention it in her book.

As far as the whole rape issue goes, it is a very difficult call isn't it? It generally comes down to one persons word over the others. I remember watching a film, several years ago, where a girl claimed she's been raped. It was the court case and kept having flashbacks as each party recounted the evening. In the girl's flashbacks she was a pure-as-the-driven snow, virginal saint, in the boy's version she was a rampant sex-mad whore basically, coming on to him. Of course the reality was somewhere in between. Not sure quite what I'm trying to say, just that you can't tell. He seems nice enough, what does that mean? She's had an unfortunate record with men, does that prove anything?

No answers. Feel sorry for both in a way, and yeah, I'll be watching TM tomorrow!
