As a relatively new Mumsnetter and Mum I am hooked on this website..I have posted twice on here about certain difficulties I was having and the advice given has been great. I am intrigued to know what you all do other than being Mums...what are your paid employments?

I have just started back to work 3 mornings as an accounts assistant for Volkswagen...anyone else...?

Hi Lilly nice to have you on board.
I'm a SAHM mostly but I do occasional supply teaching days locally (secondary Geog teacher), do some holiday releif dispensing in the pharmacy at my husbands GP practice (was a Boots dispenser in my hols from Uni years ago!!), run two self catering holiday properties and make cards/bespoke social stationery (as a hobby!!)
Did I say I was a SAHM? ROFL doesn't sound much like it!

SoupDragon · 15/10/2002 21:54

I'm a SAHM with a broadband connection. I MUST get a life...

Clarinet60 · 15/10/2002 21:55

Hi Lilly. I'm a biologist, currently working at home as a health researcher 3 days a week. (Well, that's the number they pay me for, heh heh heh).

MandyD · 15/10/2002 21:59

I'm a SAHM with broadband too! Am thinking of getting a job over the Christmas period tho' - maybe Woolworths Winter Wonderland!!

WideWebWitch · 15/10/2002 22:04

I used to have a serious corporate bollocks job with lots of money and then I had a baby and then I became a SAHM for 4 years and now I work part time in a poxy job well below my capabilities but hey, it's school hours! So I'm suddenly slightly better off but more knackered and stressed...I'm also trying to be a writer (with some small sucesss) But I need some more time from somewhere! Sorry, you only asked what we did, went on a bit there

janh · 15/10/2002 22:07

When you say sucesss, WWW????

emsiewill · 15/10/2002 22:11

I work for an actuarial consultancy (no, not an "actual aerial consultancy" as someone once thought.) Supposedly part time, but 30 hours per week doesn't feel like it.

anais · 15/10/2002 22:23

Another SAHM, but unfortunately without broadband...

SofiaAmes · 15/10/2002 22:24

I'm an architect.

WideWebWitch · 15/10/2002 22:25

Janh, been commissioned by a national mag to answer your question. Just got to find the time to research and write the damn piece now!

Ailsa · 15/10/2002 22:28

I'm an Accounting Technician (full time - on the look out for a term time only job) in my LEA's Educational Finance Section. The job title sounds better than it is.

WideWebWitch · 15/10/2002 22:31

I see Janh, just realised you were taking the p* out of my typoooo

lilibet · 15/10/2002 22:43

I audition men to appear in GAP adverts!

lilibet · 15/10/2002 22:44

Damn! Just woke up! I work 30 hrs per week for the NHS in the payroll dept. But in my other life..........!!

helenmc · 15/10/2002 23:03

I'm a techno-phobic Senior database administrative consultant...supporting payroll for companies who don't have their own IT depts (just haven't figgered how to work these figures in my favour)..he he

tracyhay · 15/10/2002 23:06

I am a SAHM wishing for broadband (not available where i live!). Used to be an accounts assistant, realised it was better at home as i missed my son way too much! In fact my experience as a working mum completely put me off that career path and now i don't know what i want to be once the boys are at school f/t. Dillon is only 7 weeks so i've got time to think about it. Might finish my physics degree in the mean time (Tyler's arrival put an end to that), or maybe do a different degree!

Tracy

WideWebWitch · 15/10/2002 23:08

robinw, how funny but sad too about the pharmacist...

Clarinet60 · 15/10/2002 23:12

Physics Tracy, wow!
I love the Stephen Hawking stuff, but I'm a dunce at basic physics. You must be really clever.

LiamsMum · 16/10/2002 02:56

I'm a SAHM but am doing a degree in Tourism. Boy is it fun trying to study, do assignments, get all the household work done, and try to entertain a two year old at the same time... not to mention trying to have a life myself. Guess we all have the same problem.

Azzie · 16/10/2002 05:57

I'm a medical writer/project manager working 4 days a week for a communications agency.

Tillysmummy · 16/10/2002 08:16

I run Marketing for a small IT Consultancy company.

grommit · 16/10/2002 09:21

I am an IT Manager for a large corporate (for my sins) - tried to be a SAHM but found going to work much easier
