private banker - love it most of the time.

yurt1 · 12/11/2007 23:11

I'm dong a 2nd funded PhD - this time in autism- love it (hated/loathed/detested the first one!)

TequilaMockinBird · 12/11/2007 23:14

I work in a very male dominated industry (telecoms engineering) and I absolutely love it!

drosophila · 12/11/2007 23:20

I work in Civil Service is a pretty demanding role at the moment. Don't believe that all civil servants are paid to sit on their bums all day. I have ben underemployed in the civil service but mostly been very busy.

Miaou · 12/11/2007 23:20

Part time library assistant - love it too.

This thread makes very interesting reading!

drosophila · 12/11/2007 23:21

Oh forgot to say that at times I have hated it (last job) am quite enjoying it atm but feel overwhelmed and in the past I have had a great time and a shit time in equal measures.

smurfgirl · 12/11/2007 23:22

Head of Marketing & Business Development for a decent sized firm of Architects, Surveyors and Planners. I really like the job, but wish it was something that could be done part time.

arfishy · 12/11/2007 23:59

Hey Tequila, so do I. Which bit do you engineer?

twinsetandpearls · 13/11/2007 00:44

secondary school teacher - love it.

LuckyUnderpants · 13/11/2007 00:47

EricL · 13/11/2007 00:52

I fart about with/write about music all day.

Couldn't think of anything else i would rather do to be honest.

ClassAct · 13/11/2007 01:10

I am a gymnastic schools assistant.

I am the one that holds the men's quivering thighs steady prior to the rope exercise.

Pay is rubbish but it has it's benefits.

EricL · 13/11/2007 01:13

'School' and 'men' in the same sentence?

What kind of school is that?

fortyplus · 13/11/2007 01:18

Spent 14 years being dynamic in sales & marketing
12 years full time sahm
Now 2 years as Resident Involvement Officer for local council - get to meet/support loads of lovely people trying to make a difference to the area in which they live. So, yes, I enjoy it.

quickdrawmcgraw · 13/11/2007 09:46

I'm a sahm and also work from home as an illustrator (mainly school books and other educational stuff),
a 3d modeller (computer models of houses from plans for print)
a children's portrait photographer.
Love it!

tiredemma · 13/11/2007 09:52

I used to be a Holiday Rep- Then a Travel Agent.

Now I'm in the second year of a nursing degree (mental health branch). I LOVE it- best thing I have ever done in my life.

( There are lots of mature students on my course also!)

nailpolish · 13/11/2007 09:55

i am a nurse (have been qualified 12 years) and i HATE it. not the work - the politics, the bitching, the arguing, the low morale, the lack of support. i could go on.

SuzieSweep · 13/11/2007 10:04

nailpolish you have totally put me off nursing - I know what you mean though.

A friend of mine ia an adult nurse and has been qualified for about 5 years now - she is always on the sick from work and hates her job (for all the reasons you have mentioned).

She was a care assistant in a nursing home for 14 years prior to nursing. She is thinking of doing something different.

I love my job as a childminder, I love looking after little ones and guiding them through their early years. I love 2 year olds who don't stop asking questions and I love babies because they're just so damn cute!

However, I hate the rules and regulations that come from OFSTED!

frostythesnowmum · 13/11/2007 10:16

Nurse - love it and hate it.
It's so stressful , theres never enough time nor resources and quite often the general public treat you like shit. A number of my colleagues have been attacked and I always feel like I am only half doing my job as I always have about 6 things to do and the time to do 2 iykwim.
That said my department is a great team and we have lots of fun and there is always something to make you smile on every shift.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/11/2007 10:18

I am currently working for DH as his secretary (in a specialised industry).

Can't stand it.

I have spent 18 years building up a reputation in this industry, and have held some excellent positions.

Now, I work alone in a dark, freezing office, whilst DH's boss' wife tells me when her staff toilets/kitchen etc need cleaning and I do jobs no more challenging than your average office junior. I came by the job by default, as DH was offered his position and I was told that I could be his assistant (I also had to start work the day after moving up here, so the house still looks like we only just moved in - 14 months later). We live on-site, so I am frequently called upon to do work at any time - could be 8am Sunday morning, or 10pm Wednesday night. The consolation is that DH is doing fantastically well, and I am happy for him.

RGPargy · 13/11/2007 10:23

Legal Secretary in London. Currently on ML. Cant say i enjoy it as such, but it's all i've done for the past 20 odd years and it's good money.

I love the place i'm working at the mo because everyone is just soooooo friendly and totally unstuffy - something that you dont normally find in a law firm!

3andnomore · 13/11/2007 16:42

nappyaddict, how funny, I was torn about wanting to become either a Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, but have now decided that what I really want to do is OT.Whilst tehre are most certainly parts of Social Work that would really interest me, I felt that OT is more me
