Cacciari is the sindaco of Venezia. there was this rumour, yes. who knows. Personally I don't really care what the Berlusconis do in their personal private sphere.
Sicilian mafia has historically colluded with any party in power, so it is reasonable to suppose that it backed DC for many yrs and did so with FI. But it is not that straightforward as it probably backed some correnti of DC and not all. Gosh Italy is a complicated country . I watched a fantastic documentary on mafia in Italy. it was on raisat, had been made by rai3, as typical.

Actually Pippi i really like the name of franca's dd. I would nick it for a potential dd of mine.

PippiCalzelunghe · 26/11/2007 21:33

ahhh si. me neither. explain to me why is he creating a new party. what about the old one?

no luck with greek names DH does not like any I suggested.

Brangelina · 26/11/2007 21:37

No, it's not clear cut. There was this documentary a while back about political influences and the Sicilian Mafia, based mainly on the DC period (with Andreotti et al.) and that was quite interesting. There was some reference to FI but they didn't go into it too much, oddly enough. That was Rai tre too.

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:54

you need to read Marco Travaglio . who I find weirdly attractive and once I got irritated because simona ventura flirted with him

I'd say Esther would not work in UK. Everyone will automatically think of big-toothed slightly scary/bonkers TV presenter Esther Ranzen.

Just seen that the general concensus is that I'm moving to a total toilet next year. hmmmm, can't wait.

Dh hasn't even managed 1 photo, so I have no idea at all what he's rented for us, other than it's a 4 bedroomed house with a smallish garden. In a shit area by the sounds of it. super duper.

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2007 09:56

Nononono Ernest, no, it is not a shit area, far from being so. Sorry if I made it sound bad. It is not. It's a green, residential, middle class, safe area. It is sought after. It is lovely with young children. And the headteacher of the English school your boys are going to attend told me that many English expats live in the area.
Milanese people are divided into 2 categories: those who like leafy residential areas with new houses and those who prefer old houses in a more central area. I tend to be in the second group, also because I hate driving. But once again, no, it's not a shit area, it's very sought after

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2007 09:57

Now guys thats 3 pages in a day !!! Love the comments about Mr B he cannot even be nominated in this house nor can Prodi for that matter DH says he will never vote again ! Cos they are all a bunch of Fill in as you please.
Like Arianna - English will have no problems with that at all or even Adrianna ( but wasn't that Rockys wife???) Ernest you are brave letting your dh choose your house for you I guess its easy as he is here and you are there with the dcs but at least a few pics before agreeing !!! DD full of cold again ! Off to pallestra dont know why I bother have not lost a single kilo and my ciccia is still in tyres round my middle.

Brangelina · 27/11/2007 12:34

Could this be your house?

It's not that bad, it's probably exactly what you're looking for and as Franca says it is a sought after area. Only not by me, I'm so not a fan of residential areas, like Franca I'm a real townie. I even complain about Monza as I don't consider it to be a real town, there's no one out after 9pm and there aren't enough good shops.

I think if you're used to Zurich you'll find Segrate/Milano2 wherever OK. You will need a car to get about though, as public transport in these areas is not good. Which is another reason I don't like it, as I'm diametrically opposed to places that force you to buy a car to congest the roads and pollute the air even further, but that's just me.

Brangelina · 27/11/2007 12:39

Rosa, my ciccia round the middle refuses to shift too. I've just started kickboxing again but the teacher doesn't do enough aerobic training so I'm not getting sweaty, ergo my ciccia stays put. The first lesson he made us do lots of addominali and I hadn't done an addominale since the day I found out I was pg, so you can imagine how stiff I was afterwards. For the first 2 days I couldn't even stand straight, I was walking around all hunched up because I couldn't stretch my tummy muscles.

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2007 12:42

Ciccia seems to accumulate round my tummy, fianchi as well. I'm tall and lean, so I can't complain really, but the way I put on weight has changed since the children. I dream of being able to go to the gym and exercise, but the reality is that I'm lazy and I've always hated exercising ...

Ernest, come back!!!!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 27/11/2007 12:44

I get shoved out the door by DP, it's the only time he'll babysit willingly. And I don't do proper gym anymore (weights, cardio etc.), I do classes where I have to be somewhere on a certain day at a certain time, otherwise I'd keep putting off going.
