Oh, dear, now you all think i am a shouty totally controlling pain in the arse mum, i am not, rrrrealllly! It is difficult with this parenting business. I don't want to parent like my parents AT ALL, and dp comes from a screwed up family as well. As we had no idea how to parent when ds was born we watched lots of programmes by the British psychologist woman, beautfil woman, not that horrible nanny who has the intellect of a toad, what were they called, not on anymore anyway. Anway I thougth she was really reasonable, lots of common sense type of stuff. She is my guru, but her name escapes.
Talking of names I like Elena, Clotilde (lol, i know, but i like it) and will try to think of others. Anche Natalia. ( come Ginzburg). Dp is saying Messalina (hopefully he is joking )

What do you mean that Berlusconi built Milano 2? How does it look?

ernest · 26/11/2007 20:16

brange, don't tell me how shit it is - I've never been there but dh viewed somwhere last week and he's taken it, so we're committed

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 20:52

Hothell, yes, one of Berlusconi's first ventures was to build Milano 2 (and later Milano 3) in the seventies.
It is a very green area (I think) and on route of the school bus . I think it is a good choice given that you have a big family, need easy access to green spaces and probably you'll find some other English expats in the neighbourhood. oh gosh we'll never get to see each other ...

Does it have palazzi o ville? He must have made pots of money, no Mr B? As a simple southerner, I had no idea about this.
It sounds nice for an expat family. Very difficult to find green spaces in Italian cities. Not like our beautiful London.

Brangelina · 26/11/2007 21:01

Will you be living in Milano 2/Villagio Ambrosiano or in Segrate itself? It is a bit of a dormitory but as Franca says there are lots of green spaces, so it may be exactly what you're looking for. I hate it myself, but then I'm more of a chaotic town girlie and no longer drive so would feel very trapped. I actually work near Segrate but only ever go to the office and back.

A friend of mine bought a place in the Villaggio Ambrosiano ages ago and told me that a few years ago residents had to compensate the farmer whose land it was (I think it was uso capione, so someone appropriated land that wasn't his.....sound familiar?).

Brangelina · 26/11/2007 21:03

Hothell, there's a bit of both. In the Ambrosiano it's mainly ville. Yes, he made lots of dosh, and apparently he was helped by Craxi although I can't remember the story. Says it all really.

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:06

Hothell, I think I went to Milano 2 once in 28 yrs of life in Milano. To someone's party. It seemed like lots of palazzine with nice big balconies within a green area. Not my cup of tea as well, I like the city centre . But I think it'll be perfect for the Ernests, especially with a tiny new baby

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:07

Craxi, craxi, may he rest in peace.

Isn't there a movie about him? Franca did you tell me that?

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:07

Mr B is one of the richest men in Europe. Amongst the first 50 (or a hundred) richest men in the world. If you want to read things about him I can give you a list of books. or I can send you old copies of Diario

I always imagine parties in Milan to be full of powder...don't know why...
Pippi seems to have cured her mumsnet addiction.

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:10

I think it would depress me to read about such a sdnfvaklsv;snfv;ask horrible man. How closely is he linked to the Mafia?

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:10

Do you think he could sue Mumsnet over this?

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:12

nah. I spent the first 26 yrs of my life without ever seeing anyone doing more than the ubiquitous joint. But as I said earlier we were a group of gini di sinistra. then I met people who had a different lifestyle, but nothing incredibly decadent.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:13

no, I don't think he would. I also think he certainly doesn't speak any English. At least Prodi studied at lse

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:14

he's sue you . Anyway, I'm not up to date with every processo but he's been cleared, I guess

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:15

Can you imagine Mr B on Mumsnet? How weird would that be.

PippiCalzelunghe · 26/11/2007 21:16

no I haven't cured it. I was looking at names on websites [sad emoticon].

I remember seeing pubblicita' about milano 2 when I was young. Thanks for the info re Mr B's riches, DH just asked me that the other day. Is he the richest man in italy?

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:18

Do you have other names? Persefone? Very prentioous, innit? The problem iwth Arianna would be the pronunciation in English. Everybody is the south of Italy seems to be Chiara e Alessia.

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:19

I think he is. him, del vecchio (the owner of luxottica), the benetton, qualche agnelli, dunno really.
maybe his wife would go to mn. she's a fan of rudolph steiner. and maybe his dd, barbara. she must have given birth rith now. out of wedlock

francagoestohollywood · 26/11/2007 21:21

? esther: I really like esther, but maybe a bit pretentious in English?

OP posts:
hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:21

Che puttana.

Doesn't Mrs B have a lover called Cacciari? Or did i dream about that?

My parenting guru is Tania Byron, had to google to remember. I think she is great.

Brangelina · 26/11/2007 21:22

Well, I do wonder. The guy I bought my house from was a Europarlamentare, but had a very dodgy threatening air about him. He arrived with his portaborse who was if possible even more sinister (came out veiled threats during the rogito because we were trying to get them to pay for the sgombero). Both me and DP immediately thought mafia, probably Camorra (they were napoletani and had travelled up for the day). And guess which party he represented? Yup, that's the one, Forza **ing Italia. Needless to say we never pursued the spese condominiali they hadn't paid. Actually, I was up for hassling them about it but DP told me not to be so English, they knew where we lived and he didn't want to keep looking over his shoulder. WTF??!!

My sicilian ex neighbour told me that the ex sindaco of her paese was known to be in collusion with the Mafia for decades and he joined Forza Italia as soon as it was formed, as did most of his political allies. They now enjoy parliamentary immunity....

Brangelina · 26/11/2007 21:25

Esther is a lovely name. That was on my list too. I love old Hebrew names. How about Athene? I think that's how you spell it. I once met a girl on holiday called Xanthe or Panthe which I thought was unusual and quite nice.

hotHELL · 26/11/2007 21:26

ahhhhh, la Bella Italia, now i remember why i could not live in Italy.
