The Breakfast Club

Good afternoon, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

@Crankley

Sticks and stones, Nelllyyy. Fortunately words can't harm us if we don't allow them to linger in our mind. I visualise them written on a bit of paper which I then 'throw back' at the person/poster with some force.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️😁
blossomsinmay · 13/10/2020 14:46

Afternoon all, it it time for tiffin yet?! So glad we are starting to regroup, I will try again over at the confusing place later.

MT won't ever be in favour in our house I'm afraid. DH was in the ambulance service during their pay dispute in 1989/90 - he has still not got over Ken Clarke calling them 'van drivers'.

BakedCam · 13/10/2020 14:53

Dizzy the cat has arrived! He settled on the sofa for a snooze while his mum was here - she was holding back the tears - but once she said her goodbyes, he ran and is now hiding behind the sofa. It's OK. MrL is a cat whisperer and when the time is right, will coax him out. We are just going to let him settle at his own pace

Oh poor mum, but welcome to the Clunkers, Dizzy. Very excited to meet you.

thegcatsmother · 13/10/2020 14:57

@BakedCam

Catsmother I would happily share with the Clunkers. If you want Sacher Torte, I can order for you through my brother. Buy direct from Hotel Sacher.
It's OK. I want to go on a trip to Vienna next year, so can go and eat my own body weight in cinnamon buns, and then have scrambled eggs and lemon toast at Cafe Central.
BakedCam · 13/10/2020 14:57

A man was staying at Hotel Sacher and was complaining that he had found a cockroach in his room. When he showed the receptionist, she allegedly called the porter and said “please take this gentleman’s bag, he is checking out immediately. He has brought a cockroach to Hotel Sacher”

Love this. Do you know whether it was Salzburg or Vienna Sacher?

My heart lies in the Salzburg one. Spent many a happy time there with my mother after the theatre which she took me to every week as a child until I left home. Made me speak English everywhere we went. Grateful for that now.

Yum, yum. I've rearranged my flight to SZG for January. I will try again.

Lily Hope Dizzy settles in soon. His poor Mum. Chairman Miaow says welcome to Dizzy to the roster of BC cats, and for you to remember that chicken legs are cheap, very nice plain roasted and cut into suitably sized pieces for catty mouths.

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 15:26

Welcome Dizzy, the BC's new little rascal.
Lily I hope he's out from behind the sofa by now. I'm looking forward to hearing about him. Has he been with his owner all his life?

Nelllyyy · 13/10/2020 16:37

Well I have a good few thumbs down on the colour place and a couple of followers, have no idea who or why. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have deleted my comments on there.

Not going on there again. 🤯

Staying put on here, just a shame you have to refresh every time and when you do no new comments have been added.

The police helicopter just flew over very low, making the whole house shake, joys of living in here, oh it’s back again, now circling.

LilyLangtrey · 13/10/2020 16:38

Welcome to the BC, Thefatladyscreams (got it Wink) and AgentSwift (sorry, need another clue, it's on the tip of my tongue...)

I know you are all feeling a bit despondent but chin up. The only thing we have to do in the BC at the moment is to catch our breath, try to relax, keep chatting to each other and keep the faith. Every day, a little progress. I usually have tomorrow's OTD done by now but it has been a bit of a day so I will crack on with that now.

Dizzy has come out from behind the sofa, had a little food, and is now snuggled on the sofa between me and the Cat Whisperer. I have set up an appointment with the vets for next Monday for a WellCat check and claw trim. He will appreciate the welcoming purr from Chairman Miaow.

Dizzy has been with his owner all of his life and she was distraught but I offered to send her an update and a photo later this evening to help put her mind at rest.

Oh! He has just draped a paw over my leg and gone back to snoozing. I see this as a good sign.

Nelly, stay here. It's calm here. Don't worry about anywhere else. I will do all the worrying for you. Smile

Here you all are Smile

Any chance of a heads up to wherever everyone's hanging out (and a tip off if there's any hazing to get through the pearly gates) pretty please?

The last couple of days have fried my brain and I'm a useless 'tec Hmm

Autumngoldleaf · 13/10/2020 16:51

Someone who I think is a friendly has pm me my user name on cm.
I don't know their name but I think it's someone safe.

I've alluded to who I am and those that know, know.
There is too much vitriol and stalking on the boards at the moment for me to be clearer.
All I can say is, going way back, I never got on the marrow mash the arms used to churn out, in the land girls days...

Autumngoldleaf · 13/10/2020 16:52

Sorry that wasn't clear, asked me for it.

OVienna · 13/10/2020 16:59

Has someone mentioned VIENNA? ;)

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 13/10/2020 17:04

Baked, it was the Vienna Sacher, I have never been to the Salzburg one. It sounds like a wonderful memory of times with your mother.

It sounds wonderful to have a cat draped over you Lilly. I have two bouncy little children in the flat, but I would love some calm snoozing vibes.

Is it to early for a mocktail and some crisps?

ClareBearstare21 · 13/10/2020 17:06

Hey all, hope you are ok, I went a bit quiet over at the other place after the weird scrap. Sorry about all that. Also though, some of you were really supportive to me about my Dad and his cancer diagnosis I did continue to post on the cancer thread for a short while.

Dad died on sunday morning. I’m utterly devastated.

I had de-regged from the other place on friday (I think), as I was becoming more and more concerned about all the angst between the various sites, and I was a bit emotionally fraught due to everything going on in my own life, but I wanted to log back in, to update those of you that had very kindly reached out to me. I guess I will have to do it here now instead. I hope thats ok. Sorry to barge in. xx

14 October - I wonder what that could possibly be?

Then we've got two big ones coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Clare I am so sorry for your loss - it's tough to lose a parent, even when you know it is coming.

Pippa what police report?

Thank you ❤️, we didn’t have much time in the end, he was sadly only diagnosed 2 months ago, we thought he might have a good shot with the treatment, but it wasn’t to be.

It’s a pain I can’t describe or even understand.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 13/10/2020 17:25

Claire, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent leaves such a void in your life Flowers.

realitychick67 · 13/10/2020 17:29

@ClareBearstare21so sorry for your loss. Flowers I lost my dad last year so I can relate.

ClareBearstare21 · 13/10/2020 17:32

Thanks Hippo and Reality.

I hope Divgirl, Moogle and Bitofun are doing ok, I worry that their support has been cut off, along with others.
