Good afternoon, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

@Pippacroux

Pr took screen shots of MC and went to the police with them as a hate crime.
I thought the site was based in the US (from the spell checker) so how could a police report filed in the UK have any effect?
TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 18:02

So sorry Clare. Flowers That's very sad to read.
There'll always be an epic welcome for you in here.

I second what TracysShoulder says.

And I’ll welcome you with one of my big cheesy smiles when you come back. 🍰💐

Oh Clare, you poor thing. I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't disappear as we need you on here - Lily's going to try and find us some new digs and we'll be needed to scrub and polish until we all feel comfy again. Sending you a big hug 🤗

I'm sorry for your loss Clare.

There is a lot of lies flying around, I have been accused of saying its not fair some children are not allowed to call other children the n word. Which is complete nonsense, I never said that. But how can you prove a negative ?

ZombieFan · 13/10/2020 18:17

What exactly is a 'hate crime' in this context? Is it a hate crime to say something privately in a room but be arrested because someone was spying on you from a distance and found something to be offended at.

Isn't that a thought crime? I cant keep up, maybe its a non crime hate incident?

Lostatsea10 · 13/10/2020 18:18

Ah, I’ve found some of you. I wasn’t in the original BC club, mainly on the HaM threads. I can’t work out how to message the mod of the coloured place and reluctant to say my name here. I would say that I regularly laud other posters however.

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 18:19

Zombie, I saw that. Sad
The other site is still accessible for looking at past posts if that's any help?

AgentSwift · 13/10/2020 18:25

@Pippacroux

That was another clarebear?Hmm
It was a poster called ClairesOnAir actually.
BakedCam · 13/10/2020 18:36

@ClareBearstare21

Thanks Hippo and Reality.

I hope Divgirl, Moogle and Bitofun are doing ok, I worry that their support has been cut off, along with others.

Sorry for your loss, Claire. Devastating for you.

They're all fine. We have them on another platform. A couple are in here too.

Well, yes. I'm not entirely sure how that would work at all.

I also saw that awful reference to you, Zombie. Which didn't happen at all. Despairing, isn't it?

ZombieFan · 13/10/2020 18:54

BakedCam Thanks I have advanced search and cant find anything close to me saying that, but I knew that. I mostly posted on BC and Lily would never have allowed that.

It is just not your method or way.
TeflonTits · 13/10/2020 19:06

@ClareBearstare21 I am so so sorry about your dad. I can entirely relate, having lost my mum at the end of august.

All the hugs for you.

TeflonTits · 13/10/2020 19:07

@Pippacroux

I'm sorry for your loss Clare.

But I really think you need to issue an apology for that comment you made about Carrie symptoms and a punched lasagna after giving birth that won't please BJ anymoreAngry

That was someone with a similar name, NOT clarebearstare.

The one you are thinking of, is on a certain Not nice thread on here, moaning about her "friend" getting hell for making that joke.

FionaMumsnet · 13/10/2020 19:40

Evening,

Can we just avoid making this thread a taat/about posters on other threads please? It's just not in the spirit, and we'd rather not take the thread down.

Thanks all Wine

ZombieFan · 13/10/2020 19:57

Just watched Sir Static call for another full national lockdown, like we had in March. Why? Once we start that again we will be shut down until winter is over. And bankrupt.

TeflonTits · 13/10/2020 20:00

ZombieFan I saw that earlier. Just why on earth would anyone want that sort of turmoil for the country or the economy ever again.

Sometimes I think I'm living in an alternative Universe.

thegcatsmother · 13/10/2020 20:04

I think asking the vulnerable to shield outside their bubble is fine, but another shutdown would finish some off (my Mum amongst them). We cannot eradicate the virus, and have to learn to live with it.

Whatcouldgowrong · 13/10/2020 20:09

Confused now.

There are references to a 'red site' which I've now seen a link to elsewhere but which appears to be private and now apparently 'other platforms' with ex-MC users yet other posts reference a new home yet to be built.

It's all starting to feel a bit members club. How do the unpopular girls I join?

yellowspanner · 13/10/2020 20:11

Good evening Clunkers.
I was a young woman when MT became PM and I found it inspiring that we had a woman running the country. It certainly had an effect on my self esteem. And I admired the way she was firm with the then EEC (or whatever they were called back then).
I admired her strength, resilience and determination.
I worked in Liverpool at the time and the Council under Militant Tendency called all of its workers out on strike in support of the miners. There was no choice. All Council premises, including schools had their gates/doors superglued shut.
Bad experiences and bad memories.
We were more against the Council than against the Government.
And they really did deliver our redundancy notices by taxi.
I have voted Tory ever since.

yellowspanner · 13/10/2020 20:17

Gcat, I think you are right about the virus.
People will die. I heard an MP on the radio whilst I was driving today saying exactly that. People will die.
He said very old people will die anyway, so why disadvantage the living.
I now feel concerned, but if I am honest, I am more concerned about the economy.
I am lucky, so in a way it is easy for me.
I am retired and my DCs and their spouses all have good, safe jobs.
I do know people whose jobs have disappeared and they are facing a bleak future.
I am just glad I am not the decision maker in the Govt..
