Stop seeing yourself as a failure. You got out of an abusive relationship, you can get through this.

Do you have a camping stove?

We don’t tend to have gas in rural Scotland.

OP - if you’re anywhere near Auchterarder I could arrange help tonight.

For tomorrow, if you left via WA give them a call. Alternatively there’s a fb page called “one parent families Scotland” who will help. Their HQ is Edinburgh but I think they’ve got regional offices too.

Is it a benefit payment you’re expecting? Because if so, then yes you’ll get it tomorrow if you’re in Scotland as it’s not a bank holiday. You can top up the electric even if it’s a bank holiday, you won’t need to speak to a customer service advisor. If you so call them today on 0300 30 30 635 then you will be able to speak to somebody. I just checked on their website.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/08/2020 19:12

Also if you’re in council/ha give them a ring tonight as they might help.

Running out of electricity is an emergency if you have children!

Nanasueathome · 30/08/2020 19:29

I’ve re read all of the op’s posts
Lots of useful advice has been given but no luck by the op with anything further To resolve the situation
What exactly are you asking for or expecting from MN, Op?

I know when I've rung my supplier in tears because I can't afford to top up they've told me it's classed as an emergency.

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 19:35

i was looking for advise on what to do, they said to ring my provider which i tried emailing, phoning but no luck as not in today, i asked about churches helping but not happening with covid, just suggestions on what i could do, as ive said a number of times thanks for advise and there’s nothing i can do as tried suggestions. you get some right nasty minded people. ive only asked for advise nothing else. if your mind wants to work in that way that’s your call.

again thanks to nice people with helpful suggestions, i’ll try again tomorrow

At least your phone battery is holding out. Whenever my electricity goes off (often, but for different reasons) I only ever seem to have 4% left on my phone!

@Butterer

But not out of hours.

Bulb just transfer to to Seimens at this time of night, who do metering support in emergencies, but aren't the supplier.

I've just rung to ask if they can help in this situation - they said they can't do anything related to meter credit, definitely can't add any remotely, and that people would need to speak to Bulb tomorrow. They also said that even if they could help, they wouldn't be able to get an engineer out tonight. Even though OP has kids.

That's shocking tbh :(

That's why they have friendly credit, so they aren't having to deal with credit issues on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

It's anyone's guess why this doesn't seem to have kicked in for the OP.

My emergency credit doesn't run out at all on Sundays. Even though I've got a smart meter that I top up with an app so the shops don't even need to be open.

I’m quite cross with those poo-pooing the situation. Not everyone lives in a great metropolis. I’m rural - but not shockingly so -
Nonetheless I’m 20+ miles to Tesco/cash converters (?). If I was skint not sure how I’d get there.

OP - another suggestion. When you’ve got your breath back, look at switching to SSE. I think because they’re based in Perth rather than just some random call-centre, they know we can start banging on the door. 😂 also HA/council tend to have a good relationship with them.
