Speak to your energy provider, they will be able to help.

Who is your energy provider?

Since you have gone to the trouble of making a MN account just to ask this question I'm sure we can all help you find out how your energy provider deals with this if you haven't been able to manage it yourself.

It's August so you aren't going to freeze in the meantime and it's not mandatory to have hot food everyday. Make it fun and have a few picnic dinners and early nights.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 30/08/2020 12:54

Their phone lines will be open. If you can't find a number then let us know what provider you're with and someone will work it out for you.

CarolineMumsnet · 30/08/2020 13:00

Hello everyone

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. We strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon. In the meantime, you might find some useful information on our guide for dealing with financial difficulty

Citizens advice suggests your energy provider will probably offer a 'friendly credit' service meaning you shouldn't be disconnected over a bank holiday even if you do run out of emergency credit

'Friendly Credit means that the meter will not disconnect the supply during periods when it would be difficult or impossible to purchase more credit, such as evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

I've checked most of the main suppliers and they all seem to have this policy in place coveting bank holidays

Seems a bit odd you have been disconnected in that case...

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 13:06

i’m with bulb, i have emailed but no response or anything from them to say they’ve received email. i saw customer service open monday to friday

OP posts:
diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 13:10

the friendly credit is only activated if your electric goes off between i think 8pm at 8am and only activated if electric goes off at these times! i came on here for genuine HELP but i seem to be getting called a liar. i’m really saddened at this. ill know not to as for any advise here again

OP posts:
diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 13:12

If you run out of emergency credit between the hours of 8pm-8am, most electricity meters will supply 'friendly credit' automatically. This is to make sure that your supply stays on overnight, and gives you time to top up in the morning. Remember: friendly credit is only activated if you go off supply between 8pm-8am.

This page from bulb suggests you should be getting friendly credit from bulb and shouldn't have been disconnected

help.bulb.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/360045978271-About-Smart-Pay-As-You-Go

They also have an online chat facility which is open and active

ShellsAndSunrises · 30/08/2020 13:14

*Get in touch if you have any other kind of emergency

You can:

call us on 0300 30 30 635
request an emergency callback
email [email protected]

Getting in touch outside of working hours

If you call us outside of working hours, including weekends and bank holidays, our phone lines will go through to our metering partners, who can help you in case of emergency.

If you email us:

during the week after 6pm, we'll reply by 10am the next working day
on weekends or bank holidays, we'll reply to your message within 4 hours if it’s sent between 9am and 6pm, otherwise we’ll reply the following day*

I wouldn’t rely on them getting back to your email today. Usually they will, but they also have notices that coronavirus has extended email reply times.

Call the number above.

If you look at the link I posted it also says weekends and bank holidays. Have you used the online chat facility rather than emailing them?

People are reporting you because this kind of thread are often later found to be just a front for getting people to send money.

LovingLola · 30/08/2020 13:48

Could you call into a neighbour and ask to use their cooker to cook some of the defrosting food?

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 13:54

i haven’t stayed here long so have never spoke to any of my neighbours, everybody keeps to themselves ☹️ would a church help with electric or have you to be going to church? i’m mabey wrong saying this?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 30/08/2020 14:03

Some councils will help with electric in an emergency as will some food banks if you can get hold of your local one

peachgreen · 30/08/2020 14:03

Have you tried the online chat facility? It was working for me.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 30/08/2020 14:06

You can find your local food bank here www.trusselltrust.org/

pastabest · 30/08/2020 14:07

Have you tried their online chat facility yet? That is active.

Your supplier will help you, you just have to keep trying them. Keep the fridge and freezer shut as much as possible and everything should be fine until you get in touch with them.

Kids will be fine, it's August so just stick another jumper on them if you think they are a bit chilly. Sandwiches, cereals etc for meals.

pastabest · 30/08/2020 14:09

What money is due to be coming in on Tuesday?
