Lipz · 30/08/2020 14:22

Can you call your bank for an emergency overdraft to allow you to put ten quid on?
Otherwise, just use your debit card and payment shouldn’t be taken until Tuesday. Does run the risk of a fee so only if you are desperate.

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 14:34

yes i got that on the bulb chat bot aswell. tried them all phone, email and chatbot

my debit card won’t let anything go through unless there is cash and my bank account just a basic one and doesn’t let me have a overdraft 😞

I went back into it and I asked the question ' no electricity'. It gives a detailed answer of how to activate emergency credit, there's something about a blue button and a green button. Is this any help to you?

pastabest · 30/08/2020 14:38

Have you checked your universal credit hasn't been paid early because of the bank holiday? You never know...

In the meantime just keep trying the emergency number.

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 14:38

i am desperate i just don’t know what to do, knightmare being a bank holiday weekend aswell

Do you have anyone who can ping you ten quid?

Even though account is basic it doesn’t hurt to ask bank in case they can convert or something. I’d try all angles if it were me, worst they can say is no.

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2020 14:42

Text a couple of friends

One of them must be able to send you a tenner until Tuesday

They can't all be skint.

diamondsky120280 · 30/08/2020 14:42

yeah i checked my universal credit but tuesday is normal working day so hasn’t been paid early, would of been biggest bonus if had, i don’t know i’m all out of options, you’d think bulb would have had some people working at weekend tho

Have you got anything in your account? If yes a contactless payment should go through! Hope you get it sorted

belasorela · 30/08/2020 14:45

Have you hot water??

If you do then the only thing I can suggest is to just do without the electricity till Tuesday morning?

Half the day has already gone today, give the kids anything in regards to food, as a previous poster suggested, picnic foods! Sandwiches, fruit anything... and just take them out for a long walk/park tomorrow?

I can imagine it's hard but with it only being a day & a half until Tuesday it'd probably take more time to get emergency electric sorted xx

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/08/2020 14:47

Banks don’t give easy overdrafts to people who are struggling.

“Low cost borrowing” isn’t available to those who need it most.

OP, knock at the church/rectory - they’ll know who can help and will keep the girls occupied whilst you have a sob and a biscuit. X

Sorry I have no advice, but if i were you I would look at changing supplier ASAP.

I'm with Boost. They won't disconnect you at a weekend or a bank holiday, and have an 'emergency fund' which means you can borrow up to £30. Its all done via an app so doesn't even matter if the offices are closed. They actually topped me up by £100 a few months ago when UC messed up my claim and I had no money. I can't recommend them enough !
