long and delicate hair. no. I wish. it's frizzy. in fact, there's more franca than the esca in me.

PippiBloodyStump · 03/10/2007 21:41

or L?

no not yet - 3 months to go for that. we have a boy name (maybe), nothing for girls.

no DD's name is not italian, nor english, maybe scandinavian. I can give you a clue, Jane's got a daughter with same name and it will cause a great confusion to poor DD in italy! [horrible mum emoticon]

hotHELL · 03/10/2007 21:42

Come la martini?

Ellbell · 03/10/2007 21:42

Wasn't Selvaggia the woman loved by Cino da Pistoia? [boring emoticon] Surely no-one is called it in RL?

hotHELL · 03/10/2007 21:43

A me piace il nome Gina per una bambina.

Jane4 · 03/10/2007 21:44

You haven't been paying attention ladies

hotHELL · 03/10/2007 21:44

i am so hairy, i feel very selvaggia.

francagoestohollywood · 03/10/2007 21:45

lol ellbell! si si, it's an interclass name. can be very posh or tamarro at the same time.
pippi, your dd'\s name is becoming popular in Italy. dh's friends just named their dd.

OP posts:
PippiBloodyStump · 03/10/2007 21:45

eh si, brava!

don't know that ellbell but if you say so. I bet you there are loads.

francagoestohollywood · 03/10/2007 21:45

I like piero and luisa!

OP posts:
PippiBloodyStump · 03/10/2007 21:48

no way??? imagine the poor child at school.
'di chi e' questa penna?'

dd is so confused when I say 'this is mine' and she replies ' no mamma questo (name)!!!!'

Ellbell · 03/10/2007 21:49

When I was expecting dd1 I couldn't get the names Beatrice and Florence out of my head. Can you imagine it? A dantista with two dds called Beatrice and Florence!

Needless to say, I resisted that particular impulse.

Brangelina · 03/10/2007 21:50

Gina noooo! I know someone called that who's a suocera before her time. She wears leopard print tops but the kind that are "wrong", like old ladies wear IYSWIM.

Pippi, I also know someone who called their baby your DD's name , so it is becoming popular here (if it's the Martini one, that is). It was one of the ones on my shortlist too.

francagoestohollywood · 03/10/2007 21:54

si si pippi getting popular (unless me and brange know the same couple!)
Florence is a beautiful name though.

Brangelina · 03/10/2007 21:55

Pippi - does your DD speak more English than Italian, or both equally well?

francagoestohollywood · 03/10/2007 21:55

so for this meet up, Jane4 and Ellbell are you coming?

OP posts:
PippiBloodyStump · 03/10/2007 21:55

none of my family liked it at first. my brother said 'are you joking?' my mum and dad did not dare to say anything but were silent for those important few seconds. still for me when I looked at her it couldn't be any other name. I am sure now they all like it.

PippiBloodyStump · 03/10/2007 21:58

DH wanted florence I think after his nan. I like but I see the city before the baby IFNWIM. I like FLO' (like the robinson girl).

(talking of cartoons, I'm replying to an earlier question franca, I've never heard of those you mentioned??? how can it be????)

yes jane, ellbell you must come. brang, you as well arrange for a minibreak weekend.

Brangelina · 03/10/2007 21:59

None of my Italian relatives like my DD's either, they said it was fascista (it isn't, she's not called Benita or Luce!). I wanted to call her Phoebe when I saw her, but Febe isn't so nice, so we settled on my second choice. I also had to find a name my English rellies could actually pronouce, so Giuseppina was out!

Brangelina · 03/10/2007 22:01

Ooh, I'd love to come. would have to get rid of DP though, a bit of a problem as he doesn't speak much English so clings to me like a limpet.

Ellbell · 03/10/2007 22:03

LOL @ Giuseppina! It would be the spelling too (I am thinking Juicy-Pina? ). Mind you, no-one can spell my dd1's name either. She gets called by the abbreviated version to save people having to look up how to spell it. Oh, and I have an Argentinian friend whose mum is Italian but emigrated to Argentina when she was about 16 and got married over there. She had a ds and called him Jorge... except that she didn't take into account that she could not pronounce the 'j/g' sound at all. So, having given him this name, she ended up calling him Giorgio!

Tell me about the meet-up. Where? When?

Jane4 · 03/10/2007 22:04
