I went to see some new childminders... how do you bloody choose???

hotmed · 28/09/2007 08:49

Choose the most loving one Pippi, the happiest looking one.
I imagine your mum dressed all in black, bosomy, and with a big mum.
Franca how did you translate pelle effetto tessuto?

PippiLangstrump · 28/09/2007 08:55

lol at hotmed image of pippi's mum!

I think i've got to go to horrible brent cross today... I hate shopping centres. going to the west-end in this weather does not sound so appealing either though.

hotmed · 28/09/2007 08:58

Do you have a shopping area near your place? What is your neares tube station?

PippiLangstrump · 28/09/2007 09:19

i'm between high barnet and southgate. not the shops I need. I need H&M for DD's clothes and something maternity for me for winter.

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2007 09:26

i was thinking to try a nursery rather than a childminder as dd is 2 now and she might enjoy it. around here they are all montessori though, or full or just do morning. what can a working esaurita mother do???

the childminder I went to see gave me a really good impression. lots of experience, lots of planning and teaching and organised day. good food. close to home.

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2007 11:04

pippi seems you got good feeling from childminder. go for it! the montessori school here is - I heard- quite "competitive".
when we decided to choose childcare I went straight to nursery because I had a very milanese mentality: nido = very good. wasn't aware of the controversy here in England. I've always been quite happy of the one we chose. at least the dc seem not to have been scarred by the experience

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2007 11:04

the only montessori school here in exeter i mean

see I did not have any preconceptions as I have not a clue of life with kids in PG. none of my friend had kids before me (they were all shocked I was the first as I never looked the type! even to myself.) so really I am just starting afresh and have got very little to compare with italy (except for what to feed your children and wht time they go to bed and when they have a bath ).

I liked childminder when she was 11m because I liked thew homey atmosphere and felt less guilty thinking that DD could think she was at some relative's house!

Now she's older though, l'm sure she'll be happy anywhere. I'm going to see childmindr again to ask more question. this time I am not going to be a pushover!!!

DD's best friend is here and it is absolutely bliss for me. I did so much work... maybe twins is not such a bad idea..

hotmed · 28/09/2007 14:41

Quick question, does Nan Goldin have kids, I didn't think she did....

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2007 14:51

Yes, go and have another look. Why don't you go see 1 or 2 nurseries, just to have clear idea of what's around you? so you can make a more informed choice iykwim... it is important that the nursery staff look warm and cuddly as well...
no idea whether those are nan goldin's children as well hotmed...

OP posts:
hotmed · 28/09/2007 15:04

i am pretty much sure she doesn't have kids of her own....
