Everyone's welcome

I don't know!!! (they don't talk to me much). Ok, actually they are a bit stereotypical, this is why I really didn't want to elaborate . Also who knows whether ds has understood well, if they really own it or just would like to have it... I do notice that they seem molto piu' svegli di ds. They know more re "popular culture" . Yes, I think that it is impossible nowadays to schematizzare. It's a mixture of class, education, political views, age, traditions whatever. I don't know!!!

They don't talk to me much, becasue I'm not very good at small talk in English (I'm the queen of small talk in italian), they are in fact very nice.

hotmed · 26/09/2007 21:22

It can be quite useful for kids to know pop culture stuff in order to make friends. Ds freely talks about star wars and spiderman even though he has never seen the movies, but being aware of them is I guess good currency in the playground.

hotmed · 26/09/2007 21:23

I cannot do small talk in Italian...in English I can go on for hours and hours. I love it!

francagoestohollywood · 26/09/2007 21:32

Yes, I absolutely agree. Ds was the same, has been happy to play power rangers/spiderman etc without ever having watched an episode until erm now. But he's now catching up. I'm ok with all that. But it;s early for playstation. we'll see.
No, I'm crap at small talk in English. I panic and don't understand what I'm told. Or I say the wrong thing. They must think I'm a bit mad! (I'm not helped by wearing the hat almost all the time )

it might be late but I've got great recipe for pasta e ceci. if you want it still l'll write it down.

I wasn't good at small talk till I met DH. Once I 'practiced' with him I can now do it brilliantly. at times better than italian as words fail me [shame]!!

I am worried today as been vomiting (sorry tmi) and tummy feels funny, more like a food poisoning or upset stomach than normal nausea... the listeria thing worries me so. franca you said you had food poison and midwife dismissed isn't it?

going for a scan on the 8th, can't wait. I don't remember being this paranoid first time. sorry to bore you with this all the time...

I don't want DD to have tv in her room...

hotmed · 27/09/2007 09:51

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 09:59

here it is "pasta e ceci della mamma di pippi" it takes 15 min and it is loved by all, DD 2 especially.

soften garlic and a rosemary stick in a pan with olive oil (chopped backon if you want it to be moorish). add 3 chichpeas cans and leave it to get the flavours for 5 minutes. add salt and pepper to taste. (I put a few halved cherry tomatoes in it and the hard bit of the parmesan to give it flavour, sometimes even pancetta bits nel soffritto). add vegetable stock: two inches over the chickpeas. leave to simmer for ten minutes. take 1/3 of the chickpeas out and blen the remaining in the pan with the minipimer/moulinex thingy. then add the saved ones and some egg pasta (the best is broken up egg lasagna sheets) and cook till the pasta is ready. leave it to rest for a couple of minutes and serve. the next day is even thicker and nicer IMO.

you can do the same with fagioli, only differenc is, no egg pasta. don't ask me why!!

best the day after even

buon appetito

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 10:02

you can freeze it but without the pasta.

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 11:39

you are prob right hotmed, I've got a bit of 'runny po' (tmi again I guess) and feel like throwing up all the time. this cold does not help either. misa che la faccio anch'io la pasta e ceci... yummi

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 12:16

OP posts:

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 12:42

hotmed have you done the pasta a ceci?

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 12:48

Stomach bugs usually last only a few days.
I'm OK thanks. A bit tired (ho le mestruazioni) and cold. Stuck at home, as we have scaffolders (we have to fix a damp patch on the roof). while I wanted to go out at lunch time (today it's my child-free day).

OP posts:
hotmed · 27/09/2007 13:14

Grazie Pippi, la faccio stasera, sembra deliziosa.
Io sto bene oggi, tanta voglia di fare tante cose, ma non sto combinando molto.
Franca, ma i Power rangers sono dei cartoni animati o dei film?

hotmed · 27/09/2007 13:22

Franca, cosa fate con la casa? La vendete o affittate?

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 13:53

We put the house on the market. If nothing happens in the next 3 months we are renting it.
Power rangers are 30 mins episodes with real actors. Though I think these are new episodes. (I remember when they came out first time round, late 80s/earlyu 90s?). Really silly. Really "camp". Perfect for a postmodern child .

Pippi how are you feeling ? Hope it has sorted itself out ok ..
Soffiggere I would say lightly fry. DD had vaccination this morning all ok I think now do we take her swimming if no febbre domani mattina o no?
Cavolo temp has gone down here as well will have to go and put on a maglione I think. BOught a jacket in Oviesse today a media stagione one - only one I could find to fit With all the bad weather have not made it to gym so I am hoping domani as I so want to loose weight !!

Maybe it was playstaion 2 I bought I dont really know its the little portable one so that could actully be PSP..I dont know it was expensive IMO and no way would I spend that money on a 5 yr old. TV in room nope from me wither but we have kept a portable for dd when older so she can watch her dvds / videos but agreed no atenna!!!

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 14:26

Yes, I think you can take her swimming if no febbre and not in a bad mood (her, not you ).

ps: my brother, 5 yrs younger than me, had an antenna in his bedroom. So - at some stage in the late 70s - they put a tiny spare tv set (with bottoni not even a telecomando) there. I was soooo . There weren't many channels to watch though. I remember trying to position the cavo dell'antenna in order to get some weird canale locale in order to watch candy candy.

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 18:32

heeeeelp: how would you translate "al centro una donna consapevole" (al centro meaning protagonista). It's a bloody press release for a fashion show

OP posts:
hotmed · 27/09/2007 19:38

It depends on the rest of the sentence, but "centre stage a self-assured woman" cannot think of anything else for "consapevole" - lots of bullshit I say.

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 20:18

hotmed was it good?

hotmed · 27/09/2007 20:40

Buonissima, grazie mille! I think you should call yourself Nigella from now on...

PippiLangstrump · 27/09/2007 21:15

it's not me, it's my mum. I bet you all have this picture of pippi's mum looking like a real 'italian mama'!!
