Swagger Inn thread 165 - wenches get --locked-- down with the HBFs (ylt)

Lockdown rolls on, so we're staying in and isolating with the FAF. Grin
The bar is stocked, the floor has been mopped, the tables have been wiped, and the HBFs are however you want them Grin

(We're also doing lots of washing and gardening.)

Afternoon.

My culinary disasters continue. I put two eggs on to boil and asked DH to remind me in 10 minutes as he was playing on his phone in the kitchen. An hour later there was an explosion. Shock I can't really blame him as I forgot too.

Wildlife Corner: Not me, DD has got a fledgling crow on her garden furniture. He's been there for more than 2 days. He calls out occasionally and the mother, I presume, goes down to him, they touch beaks and then she flies off again. She hasn't been seen feeding him. DD has taken some seed out to him twice and each time he's fallen off the back of the chair in fright, while the parents go mad in the trees above. She phoned the wildlife centre and they said he could be there for a week. Shock She told them her DH wants to cut the lawn. I have visions of it being like a scene out of The Birds.

I know what you mean about bones and joints LetUs. I can't walk when I get out of bed. I just stagger to the kettle.

Oh, new potatoes and salmon sounds lovely WW.

ApricotCrush · 19/06/2020 17:06

Ouch LetUs. Sad

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 19/06/2020 17:19

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhh

You need DrAramis, or any other HBF to help.

I put a load of washing on this morning. It's still in the machine. FFS...

I really want salmon and new potatoes too now.

Sad Letus

LetUsPrey · 19/06/2020 19:17

Thanks for the sympathy wenches. It’s my own stupid fault but I will obviously accept all and any HBF assistance

Shock at the exploding eggs Apricot! Hope BabyCrow is okay.

FancyFancy · 19/06/2020 20:25

Ouch letus, hope it's not too painful now?

Hmm, not bothered about salmon but new potatoes are divine when swimming in butter & pepper

Re the victoria sandwich - were the tins too big? I've had this before, didn't scale the recipe up enough & the cake didn't rise at all. I'm sure there must be some physics behind it.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 19/06/2020 20:36

How was the sponge Apricot - I'm guessing tasty, but not quite the fluffiness that you were thinking of? Did I tell you about DS' birthday cake? It was meant to be a dome, but the recipe I used couldn't support the shape, so it just looked like roadkill! It was still tasty though Grin

Hopefully nothing eats the fledgling before it figures out the flying thing.

LetUsPrey · 19/06/2020 22:13

at roadkillesque cake

Ohhhh Fancy yes! Butter and black pepper mmmmm

In my head I’m celebrating Aidan’s birthday with him.

In RL it’s Friday night and it’s the earliest I’ve been in bed by some margin all week. DH and the DC are watching the football. I got fed up of the bickering and shouting (mostly the DC) so came upstairs before halftime.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 19/06/2020 22:19

New potatoes and butter and a pinch of salt

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 19/06/2020 22:59

Urgh. I was going to have an early night... FFS.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 19/06/2020 23:11

Definitely yes to the butter and salt with the potatoes too

Helen! Hayloft now!

Night all

LetUsPrey · 20/06/2020 09:46

Morning wenches.

It’s actually not raining! This means I have no excuse not to go out and exercise.

Another roofer didn’t turn up yesterday. DH sent him a polite text to ask what time he’d be coming (after he was already late) and he got a message back saying his van wasn’t working. No apology, no previous notice that he couldn’t make it, no offer to rearrange. So that’s that firm sacked off. At least when the first chap was late, he was very apologetic.

After the roof’s done, we’re going to redecorate the kitchen. If we start looking at paint colours now, we might reach an agreement by the time we’re ready to decorate Grin

Right, I’d better shift my backside or it’ll be raining before I can get out.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 20/06/2020 10:57

Morning. Urgh. Tired and my back hurts. WhyTF does my back hurt? I didn't do anything yesterday that involved my back doing anything. FFS ad all that. Suppose I should get the washing in - I left it out last night an it seems nice and dry now (though possibly housing a colony of money spiders).

Eeek at paint choosing LetUs I think our usual method is to argue for months and then I give up and don't care any more. Or we agree on a few colours and then I lose interest and tell DH to just pick one becuse I've lost the will to live.

LetUsPrey · 20/06/2020 12:09

Athos will give you a thorough rub down Helen, several times if necessary.

Any colour will need to at least match the tiles and worktop so that’ll narrow things down a bit —hopefully—

Exercise done. It started raining when I was about two minutes from home. I think the expression is “piss wet through”. I’m sure I saw some towels earlier Grin

ApricotCrush · 20/06/2020 17:54

Afternoon. Nice day here. I went to get the cushions and pillows for the loungers out of the box on the terrace, and they were dripping wet. Shock I never thought to check on them when we had the storms last week. Fortunately I have some new cushions that I've been 'saving for best' for the last 30 years so I dragged them out and they were much more comfortable. I'll probably chuck the old ones.

The recipe and tins I used for the cake are the same as I've always used Fancy, although I did think that next time I'll increase the ingredients. I tasted fine though, if a little on the stodgy side, but we like that.

Oh, paint colour choosing is always a nightmare. It never looks the same on the wall as on the tin and those little testers are ridiculously expensive for what they are.

Update on the crow: He's gone. No sign of any trauma so he's probably sitting in a tree laughing at us for being so concerned. Hmm

LetUsPrey · 20/06/2020 20:09

Boo at soggy cushions but hurrah for lovely comfy “new” ones!

Agree about paint colours. Although it helps if you buy the right colour and don’t do two coats of paint thinking it’ll dry lighter before realising it’s the wrong colour. That’d be stupid Blush

I’m sure the baby crow has fledged successfully and is perfectly safe

Not done much today. Some washing, watched tv. Bit tired now.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 20/06/2020 20:30

Evening.

Oh no apricot - soggy cushions? You'll have to get a HBF to help you break in the new ones Grin Make sure they're properly bedded in - that sort of thing Grin

Did washing today, did shed painting, did planting and weeding and general gardening stuff. And now I'm unaccountably grumpy. I should probably have a bath and avoid DS/DH until I'm less likely to snarl at either of them. Pfft. Athos can join me in the bath and cheer me up

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 20/06/2020 21:27

Evening. Just finished watching The Visit by M Night Shyamalan. I really miked The Village by him but this was a bit too weird Confused

LetUsPrey · 20/06/2020 23:04

Hope the grumpiness has subsided Helen, preferably with Athos’s assistance.

Not heard of that film Wicked. Heard of him.

I’ve mostly been doing my jigsaw and now I’m going to the hayloft.

LetUsPrey · 21/06/2020 09:48

Morning wenches.

Having a quite chilled Sunday morning watching gardening programmes on BBC2. Very relaxing.

Off to socially distance visit dad in a bit, then not sure what plans we have. There’s rain forecast for most of the day so I won’t be outside, although I might go for a walk. Also want to do a PE with Joe.

For now I’m rooted to the settee.

FancyFancy · 21/06/2020 11:45

Morning
Am doing lots of lazing around so far today - FancyMan should be arriving later so I will have to get moving at some point Grin

Well, next time I have wenches staying I shall just provide a huge bowl of new potatoes and a pack of butter - sorted!

That is a mystery about the cake apricot, still, a stodgy cake is fine.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 21/06/2020 12:28

Brilliant Fancy Grin

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 21/06/2020 15:52

Afternoon. Woke up at 4am-ish with a small person being grumpy because he couldn't sleep, then at 8am - did all the chores and then baked a father's day cake for Dad - fruit cake then back to bed, and then resurfaced at about 11:30 Shock

Just back from supermarket. Haven't really done anything, but I'm wearing too many clothes (it's hotter outside than it looks), so will ask for Athos' assistance in removing some Grin

How odd about your cake Apricot Confused

Fancy - don't forget the salmon though (I got new potatoes on offer today - hurrah!)

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 21/06/2020 17:20

That would suit me Fancy Grin Hope lazing and moving went well.

Look Helen! An eagle!

I bet Athos is quite cross that you’ve got so many clothes on. He’ll probably rip them off.

Have done visiting. Have done PE and watched another Miss Marple, which is the equivalent of a comfort blanket. Now jigsawing but taking my time as I don’t want to finish it too quickly.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 21/06/2020 17:30

Next week it's supposed to be up to 31-32° Confused
