another contempory- same year as you hatwoman.

I had totally fogotten about Jacoob Rees Mog (he was odd looking wasn't he?). Am off to remind dh.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 29/08/2007 23:04

I went to school with Chris dean, of torville and dean (ice scating) - though he was somewhat older than me..... Never met him

gess · 29/08/2007 23:05

I met a Japanese at Sheffield guy in Japan (on his 3rd year iirc, so it must have been yr 1 Sheffield, yr 2 Oxford, yr 3 Japan yr 4 Oxford or something), and he hated Oxford and wished he'd done the whole thing at Sheffield!

Clary · 29/08/2007 23:09

Great thread

I was at uni with lembit Opik, Lib-dem MP of more note of late (affianced to weather girl and then linked to Cheeky Girl)

We both did Philosophy and I did know him a bit...

Oooh lisalisa snap then! did you know him (or just know of him...)

rachel Cusk wrote that hideous book didn't she and called her daughter Albertina so no wonder she disliked her (the daughter disliked the mum, or so the book suggests...

lucykate · 29/08/2007 23:16

i went to the same high school as kate sanderson she is a newsreporter/tv presenter.

am a bit puzzled as to why that biog i linked to says she was born in 1971, i was born in 1970, and she was 2 years older than me at school .

frogs · 29/08/2007 23:19

Lucykate, they all lie about their ages -- Rosie Millard is getting younger by the year, doncha know. Soon she'll be a whole decade younger than me, rather than the 2/3 years older that she actually is.

MrsJohnCusack · 29/08/2007 23:20

who the hell is Victoria Derbyshire?

elkiedee · 29/08/2007 23:27

Re Kate Sanderson, this link describes her as being 36 three years ago....

MrsJC - my post was meant for MuffinMclay as we discovered we were at same school. People I mentioned not so famous, just telling her who was (mildly) famous from our school. Victoria Derbyshire is a presenter on Radio 5.

DixiePixie · 30/08/2007 00:33

hotcrossbunny and botbot - I was going to say the same person too - I was on the same course as him at uni, but we never really spoke much

elfinblast · 30/08/2007 01:00

I've been trying to grab some glory by association, but can only muster

  1. A girl who did a bit of porn. (it was in the paper...thats the only reason I know)

  2. A bloke who did something technical on the harry potter films and

  3. A vacuous tart who craved fame and managed a very short stint on an unheard of satellite channel.

sigh

MrsJohnCusack · 30/08/2007 02:45

oh thanks Annain Nz - wasn't really aimed at you, it was because I'd seen her name a few times on this thread and as I usually know every fifth rate sleb (from an unfortunate addiction to crap mags) I was confused I didn't know her! But I looked a bit rude there - sorry!

I was at uni with and vaguely knew:
Tim Henman's wife
Will Greenwood (rugby world cup winning team)
someone from the first big brother (name escapes me)
Anthony Andrews' son
NIna HOssain (newsreader)

actually I knew loads of people who are now newsreaders/on telly from school/youth orchestra and uni.

AnnainNZ · 30/08/2007 02:49

I didn't realise she'd been mentioned by other people till I'd posted...mental note: must read threads through properly...

mamama · 30/08/2007 03:16

No-one. Although I think someone from Hollyoaks went to my school. And apparently Chris Tarrant taught there but long before I went there.

Earlybird · 30/08/2007 04:54

One of the main female characters from the telly show 'Friends' went to my school, and lived walking distance from our house.

Not a contemporary of mine, but one of 'Charlie's Angels' went to my school (anyone remember that telly show?).

Amy Grant (very successful American contemporary Christian Music artist) was a year below me at university.

And - not a school contemporary, but still of some note - we've recently relocated to America. I can stand at the end of my drive and see the house where Reese Witherspoon's parents live....do you think dd should trick or treat there on Halloween night?

Egypt · 30/08/2007 05:20

who hat woman?

seeker · 30/08/2007 06:40

I went to a ball with Alex Salmond

popsycal · 30/08/2007 06:54

There are a few soap/actors that were friends of mine in childhood (not uni though)

However, there is a premiership footballer, just been called up to the England squad, who I was at school with.....but I was his teacher when he was 10
Lovely lad!

KTeePee · 30/08/2007 07:44

Graham Norton

ghosty · 30/08/2007 08:00

First year at uni Santa Palmer Tompkinson (Tara's sister) lived on the same floor as me in Halls. I didn't know who she was or her connections until later but she was awful - all horsey and loud ...
I went to school with the guy to designed some giant barometer on the Holland Park roundabout in London this one here - he was in the year above me and I had a huge crush on him

hatwoman · 30/08/2007 09:05

egypt - what do you mean?
gess - do I know you? do you know me?

OP posts:
lucykate · 30/08/2007 09:07

at college, dh shared a house with this guy he's now the lead singer in the band, unless you are into rock/grunge type music you won't have heard of them. can tell you a fair few stories about him though

seeker · 30/08/2007 09:09

And I was on the other side in a 6th form debate - Is Chivalry Dead -from Julian Clary. He wiped the floor with me.

seeker · 30/08/2007 09:11

And I shared a house for a while with the dottiest (bar none) Conservative MP currently in the House! He introduced me to garlic bread.

hatwoman · 30/08/2007 09:16

that's a good one seeker. who was arguing what? I can imagine Julian Clary arguing either to be honest - either all blokes these days are hefty philistines therefore it's dead, or I'm chivalrous therefore it's not...
