Oh dear, Haylstone, looks like you're stuck, then! Apparently the M5 is OK from Cheltenham to Bristol. The trains were back on this morning as well.

Never mind, your MIL can help with the water collection and toilet flushing dramas, I am sure you will all have a lovely time!!

silkcushion · 23/07/2007 16:30

M5 is filling up again so be careful.

Bowsers all went to Glos first cos we had our water cut off first. Severn trent's website gives details of locations of bowsers and mini tankers. They also say that thanks to emergency supplies from other parts of the uk cheltenham has kept its water on for longer than expected ie should last until tomorrow am.

What I am unable to find out about is when the power is going off. news doesn't have anything specific about it. I work for a bank and we (head office) were told that central cheltenham will lose power this afternoon sometime.

Good luck everyone. If the water is back on tomorrow night I'm off to Swindon to check in to a trravel lodge for a few days.

Good idea silkcushion. I'm not sure it's a certainty that we'll lose power. I met some people in Glos this morning who had lost power and were panic buying batteries but so far we're ok (touch wood). I can feel a Travelodge calling me too.

Sorry to hear you're about to lose yr water. We lost ours last night. I'm 6 months pg with my first and I keep thinking how much harder it would be if I'd got a baby already.

Are you local to Chlt/Glos?

I'm hearing varying reports of how long it will be off for.

Originally they said 72 hours now they are saying 7-10 days. Think we should all escape and go and visit some other part of the country if that happens.

There is a bowser outside my house and people have panic emptied it!!!!!

actually I get through 6 pints of milk in two days but agree with the principle
My mum and s/dad are coming to stay as they are in Cheltenham.
Never had this problem before as I grew up in the cotswolds but used to go to Tewkesbury for swimming lessons with school and always saw the floods each year. They actually built on the very fields I saw covered in water the knobs.

silkcushion · 23/07/2007 21:15

I don't know how they can limit the bowser water though.
They sneaked in into place outside our house at 2am this morning. But when people spotted it during daylight it just got emptied. There is only a little trickle coming out now and people are trying to turn it upside down. I am fighting the urge to tell them off!!!

I feel like the bowser police

thebigSea · 23/07/2007 21:18

but does he have protection against the masses of panic stricken bowser bandits?

Furball · 23/07/2007 21:23

I've been scouring the outside area for swimming pools figured ds and i could go swimming every other day trouble is all the pools within a 20 mile radius are either in flooded places themselves or the roads to them are flooded.

RubeusDuck · 23/07/2007 21:23

"has everyone got electricity?"

Erm, if they haven't they're hardly likely to be able to reply on here, are they

Advice if yr water is about to go off - think about water for flushing the toilets.

Starting to collect rainwater now as it has been p*ing down intermittently all day.

The bowsers are really only meant for drinking water etc not to flush down yr loo.

I'm going to check severn trent's website re how long the water will be off for

ZisforZebra · 23/07/2007 21:28

Our water went over night. We'd filled up loads of containers and have put buckets out for rainwater for flushing the loo. I think our plan is to just go to my mums in stroud for washing clothes (not that she knows that yet!!) if it's off any longer than 3 days. We'll also refill our containers from there.

Sweeties, we didn't have any electricity this morning but it is back on now. I think they have the army in, trying to pump out a power station. If it goes under then most of the county will be cut off. The bowsers seems to be unmaned so i don't know how they can limit it per person. Of course, it's only a matter of time before you see some tosser selling water at over inflated prices!

silkcushion · 23/07/2007 21:30

Think the water selling thing is already happening.

Loads of new bowsers in and around Cheltenham since I checked the website a few hours ago.

My power was off this morning but back on this evening.
