buonasera!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 06/09/2007 13:11

Oops, sorry Rosa, didn't mean to shout your name!

are you back in Venice then?

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 13:54

One more thing - what's this pinata? I keep reading about it here on mn but can't for the life of me figure out what it is. I didn't want to ask on an English thread as felt embarrassed about my crap knowledge of the English language.

Every year there is something new/new slang and I feel so behind. Mind you, it's just as bad for my mum, someone once mentioned that a relative was "in gamba" and she replied in a baffled tone "ma se non cammina più...?"

Jane4 · 06/09/2007 14:50

Bran - A pinata is something you have at a childrens party, you fill it with treats then hang it up and the children bash it with pinata sticks until all the contents drop to the floor, then the kids scramble to get as much of the contents as possible, they come in lots of shapes ie: Donkey, Pirate chest.
Hi I'm Jane BTW

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 14:55

Right what are pinata sticks? Why are they pinata sticks as opposed to ordinary sticks? I don't know why I'm worried, DD is unlikely to be going to bday parties in the UK and AFAIK this custom hasn't reached these shores yet.

Hi Jane

francagoestohollywood · 06/09/2007 16:11

oh brangelina, pinata might not have reached Monaza's shores, but it's quite fashionable in Milano (I'm making this up, just been to a friend's son birthday party last year and there were no pinatas in sight, but plenty of pane e salame).
Anyway, it's a Mexican tradition alle fiestas, I think. You don't really need a pinata stick, we used a common one...
Hi Jane, how's it going? what does your italian dh do, if you don't mind me asking... just out of pure nosiness.

PippiLangstrump · 06/09/2007 17:01

Ciao. I remember pinata when I was little. At some 'sagra' I think. lots of fun.

Actually brangelina is not too bad, DD is an angel (no terrible twos here yet) and I think this time is easier than first. But I'd never ever wanted one before this time. I could not have coped one bit if the gap was smaller. (I am not a big fan of pregnancy so I need my body back) for a while (my boobs/breast/bosoms/whatever are massive already )!

re hairy bits... I am afraid I won't have much to show you [ashamed emoticon]...

hi Jane, Hi Rosa.

(my dog stinks! yuk!)

Jane4 · 06/09/2007 17:06

Hi Franca, Of course I don't mind you asking. Ezio does web design and other computer related things, he's just made me a website actually, but I haven't put any information yet, I will hopefully have more time now Dylan is back at school. We used to have an Italian Restaurant in Battersea from 1994/1995 - 2000 (thats why we have a big age gap between the 1st 2 children and the other 2 children) it was good fun but very hard work with a family, Ezio was the chef, I was front of house, we had to sell it as Ezio developed chronic psoriasis.

PippiLangstrump · 06/09/2007 17:09

sorry girls I have to go DD got stroppy as I wasn't paying attention and started writing on the wall (not that I care as house to be redone - still the principle). she's in time out!!! bless.

later...

ciao caliiiii how are you?

Jane: wow a restaurant! that must be a very, very hard work. But quite exciting, I'm sorry you had to sell .

hotmed · 06/09/2007 20:27

ehi, pippi, ds spent of the pm in time out. he is such a sweetie, but for the last two days very very naughty!!!!

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 06:57

yea hotmed she was naughty, but in fairness to her she was very tired and hungry and dinner was late etc. still sometimes she really tries to try me. How old is your LO again?
(PS yesterday DD pooed on the decking!!! a big one as well. I cannot believe it, she was without knockers for a minute!)

francagoestohollywood · 07/09/2007 09:10

they are always trying. dd at the moment is being angelic and washing her puffi (they belonged to my brother) in the bathroom. prevedo allagamenti.

hotmed · 07/09/2007 13:01

ds is 4, he is fairly well behaved, but i guess amongst our friends we are the ones who are stricter (you know set bedtime, etc).

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 17:35

Icannot believe I wrote 'knockers' instead of knockers... .

i am not sure if I am strickt with routine, I do not think so (her bedtime is somewhere between 7.30 and 8.30 at the moment) but I am very strict re 'buone maniere e educazione' like the way she eats and says her thank yous etc. Mainly because I want to be able to take her with me everywhere and not to be a nuisance.

we had a lovely day out today in the west-end. not one sign of nausea today which is meraviglioso (it can either be a great sign, i.e. the worse is over or a really bad sign, will see.) bought DD a lovely pair of red shoes in ECCO and Makka Pakka.

I love puffi!!!

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 17:36

ups I've done it again... freudian slip maybe???

knickers, knickers, knickers!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 07/09/2007 17:58

glad you had a good day pippi , I'm sure you are jjust abandoning the evil first trimester...
I've just made melanzana di parmigiana, but it's going to be a debacle, I don't think I've fried the melanzane well, it's just not in my dna (yes, I'm having a domestic goddess moment, yesterday I bought big tomatoes at the farmer market and made a gorgeous salsa...)
bedtime is at 8 (8.30 on weekends) here. any earlier than that makes me a bit uncomfortable...

francagoestohollywood · 07/09/2007 17:59

parmigiana di melanzane,obviously

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 18:05

ummmm buona!!!
I never attempted at frying anything at home yet. I have become very domesticated recently as well. I might to lasagne soon actually. I should do salsa as well as I bought a whole box of tomatoes. DH laughs as there's been tomatoes everyday for a week. yesterday I did pomodori ripieni... I must have eaten a million!!
how do you 'passi i pomodori'?

francagoestohollywood · 07/09/2007 18:09

con il passaverdura,
like this one

Jane4 · 07/09/2007 18:41

Yum! melanzane alla parmigiana, Ezio makes this sometimes, it's one if my favorites, after he fries the melanzane he soaks up all the oil with kitchen towel so it's not too greasy, my mouth is watering again!
I bought my Passaverdura from LIDL I think it was only about £6, they don't have them all the time though, they change products every week, but it's worth looking out for one or buying in Italy as they are so expensive over here.

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 20:01

I thought so! I've got the same. E' imbattibile!! Got it from italy Jane. all this basic simple things are so expensive here.

PippiLangstrump · 07/09/2007 20:58

com'era la parmigiana?

francagoestohollywood · 07/09/2007 21:17

La parmigiana was really good (did the kitchen towel trick)and the salsa I made yesterday really great! [domestic goddess emoticon]
Jane, I think we should force Ezio to cook a 4 course dinner...
