Not an artichoke fan myself.. And my mum always says no when she sees them taking all the leaves off and floating the fondi ..I offered to ask if she could have them but she says they need to be boiled whole ???
Franca I did not know about teh Salami I thought it was ok within Europe...Opps as I bring it over always.. Crudo , the lot .
Oh lord just pooped on to check in for flights on line and BA says I can do the first flight but will have to wait 3 hrs befoe the for the next one will be open on line so will be back on later to do the lot!
Back to the packing now

PippiLangstrump · 03/09/2007 15:45

I did not know about the salami either. i bring stuff like there's no tomorrow. a friend brings a couple of mega steaks all the times.

I'm off to make these carciofi... will let you know. ciao

francagoestohollywood · 03/09/2007 21:25

com'erano i carciofi???

PippiLangstrump · 03/09/2007 21:54

cosi cosi, we cooked them, half boiled but they were a bit tasteless, and I am sure I made some mistakes.
If I try your recipe franca, do I do the whole or do I take the outer leaves out?

I also invented some lentils thingy which was delicious, even a meat eater like DH loved it.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2007 12:26

depends on how tender is the artichoke. go for a carpaccio of artichokes, take the outer leave off, quarter it and get rid of the barba, slice it thinly and dress it with olive oil. pepper lemon salt, shavings of parmigiano and sesame seeds.

Jane4 · 04/09/2007 12:32

All this talk of carciofi is making my mouth water !

PippiLangstrump · 04/09/2007 12:40

home again today as tube strikes prevents me to reach my destination!
and tomorrow and without DD. Bliss!!!!

might go and look at some kitchens and tiles and bathroom... ahhhh

Thanks franca I'll try. I might even do the polpette as you told me to do once.
god I'm becoming such a housewify.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2007 13:05

enjoy pippi ! tomorrow ds goes back to school and dd to nursery
pity that I've got miles of hoovering (which I hate) and dusting to do and mountains of ironing...

PippiLangstrump · 04/09/2007 14:52

I am actually in bed, would you believe it?? I did go out but had to turn back as i was almost falling asleep at the wheel. will go for a powernap before picking up DD.
I hate hoovering too... the blody thing always gets stuck in doorway or under a chair and the cable is everywhere.

can you suggest where to get a nice kitchen?

PippiLangstrump · 04/09/2007 15:03

did you see my thread about salmonella? I've just found out DD got it when we were in italy in june (results now!!! ) - hence the prolonged diaorrhea (sp?) then.

obviously she's fine now but is this reasonable?

also can you catch it so mildy so that one does not know (but still affect the baby?)

you won't miss the NHS franca. DH is having is hernia done in italyt next months as he's being waiting two years and has not heard yet.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2007 15:40

oh, your poor dd!
I don't think salmonella is dangerous for baby in itself. the danger is that diarrea and vomit can cause contractions.
but I'm not a 100% sure.
kitchens... don't have a clue. what's your budget?

PippiLangstrump · 04/09/2007 15:53

ah okay.

kitchens... don't know really we thought we get an expensive worktop which I've seen and a cheap and straight forward cabinets. went to ikea but was not convinced. the kitchen we've got at the moment if from B&Q and not bad actually. as worktop is really expensive I do not want to be carried away with the units as well e.g. going to get ideas from an expensive shop and then not been happy with anything else, IFSWIM. or is it maybe best to get everything from the same price range?
we are doing the whole house up so no need to overspend, to say the least!

how did you do it?

sorry for you and the ironing!

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2007 17:58

we've been lucky with the kithcen... basically I think we bought the house because of the kitchen! it's, white with thick solid wood worktop. we love it. don't think we'd have spent as much as the previous owners did tbh.
I like the ikea ones, agree with cheapishh unites and nice worktops.

PippiLangstrump · 04/09/2007 21:34

ah that's a question for you then, is solid wood good as a worktop? doesn't it get ruined with all the water, cutting etc? does it look nice after all these years?

i want white units as well with either wood or a glazed material that looks a bit like glass.

thanks for help.

I am already in bed - that's all I seem to do these days.

francagoestohollywood · 04/09/2007 21:44

I love solid wood. ours is really thick. I won't lie to you, it does get ruined, but nothing major, and I like that look un po' rovinato...

hotmed · 05/09/2007 09:28

ciao a tutte! i also have solid wood in the kitchen, absolutely lovely. we need it to oil it regualarly though which is a pain.

francagoestohollywood · 06/09/2007 12:26

so, I was wondering, shall we organize a meet up to compare bodily hair, or should we just hang on to our virtual mistery?

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 12:34

Lol, we could webcam hairy bits. The problem is where do I start? I could be on there for hours! I'll also have to wait for regrowth for the full impact which means I won't be able to leave the house for a few days/weeks.

Ciao a tutte, what a lot of posts and news. I've been trying to keep off here as I'm supposed to be working, but I just end up posting on other threads anyway. Pippi congrats on your pg, I'm so . Your little girl was born the same month as mine IIRC (July 2005). How brave of you to go for your second with a two year old, mine is very whiny and clingy atm and I shudder with horror at the thought of morning sickness and her whining at the same time.

francagoestohollywood · 06/09/2007 12:37

There are 22 months between my dc, and somehow I've managed to remove all the memories of dealing with morning sickness and constant tiredness and a very lively toddler...
Brangelina, we could meet at the estetista...

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 12:39

Yes we could - but not in Monza.

francagoestohollywood · 06/09/2007 12:45

It'll be my mission to find a suitable one in Milan, we can go for coktails afterwards

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 12:48

You're on. We could of course always go for cocktails beforehand too, to deaden the pain of the bikini wax....

francagoestohollywood · 06/09/2007 12:51

yes, sounds sensible enough...

Rosa · 06/09/2007 13:01

mmm No2 something We are also thinking about dd will be 2 in March anyway we must sort out a house first cannot do 2 in this one..
LOL about web camming hairy bits...I would not know where to start.
Brangelina did you get away ?

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 13:10

Franca - it's a deal, give me a couple of weeks warning before you come so I can organise suitable regrowth. If you need me to test any estetiste before you come over just let me know....

ROSA - No I didn't, ended up working, long story relating to DP neglecting to mention that his DS had chosen to go elsewhere. I had work to do anyway so decided not to waste holiday time. Glad to hear you had a good time. I'm in total agreement about missing gardens and running about, I hate the fact that DD to have contact with any type of green space involves me getting dressed and cycling somewhere, as opposed to just letting her out of my back door.
