Do you wear strong perfume? Because you make my ruddy head ache and I wish you would stop. Everyone else thinks so too but they are too polite to tell you that you stink.

I think that more or less covers it.

Oh yes,those are fine Expat.
It's just that cheap shit.
Most heinous crime of all is....scented nappy bags.

wtf

newmummy01 · 26/03/2007 21:55

I work with someone who drowns herself in Chance after every fag break (which is about 10 times a day) - she stinks! I also used to carshare with an Angel wearer - this just gives me a migraine - yuk

norkmaiden · 26/03/2007 21:55

I thought a perfume you couldn't smell on yourself was one that suited you??
urban myth...?

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2007 22:00

this was kind of meant to be an argument, as well as a rant, you know

when is someone going to come on and say it is their right to wear stinky shite perfume and the rest of us are just jealous because our husbands are out chasing over-perfumed women, or something>

norkmaiden · 26/03/2007 22:03

well yeah I defended my perfumed mum...it really suits her, it's another dimension of her (snigger if you like). It's a classy sophisticated kind of smell, imo.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2007 22:04

Ah franny. It's an obvious mistake. You started this in the wrong topic.

You shouldve started it in AIBU

norkmaiden · 26/03/2007 22:05

point being that these attriubtes somehow reflect onto her, in my mind, and she seems less sophisticated (? is that the right word), less finished, than without her perfume. I think this might work for others I know, too.

scatterbrain · 26/03/2007 22:06

Well - I used to get fed up with Poison, Paris and Opium and another one which escapes me now - very sweet and cloying - but this was in the eighties !! I hadn't smelt too many strong ones lately.

So tell me - is Jo Malone's Orange Blossom or Issey Miyake's Issey counted as strong and horrible ???

LowFatMilkshake · 26/03/2007 22:06

My fav perfume comes from Caesers Palace in Las Vegas (so cheap shite - go on say it) well it's not, it's about equal to a bottle of Nina Ricci over here and I love it. Yes its strong, but I love it so there!

choosyfloosy · 26/03/2007 22:09

Many years ago I worked as a physiotherapy assistant and helped one woman who'd just arrived at the hospital and wasn't very mobile. She smelled strongly and not pleasantly and I assumed that the smell was rotting bedsores (quite common in people who'd recently arrived in the hospital, not after staying there btw). I felt very sorry for her. Turned out it was her perfume. It remains the only perfume I can recognise and name on anybody. Even the name sounds like a vomit.

After that I almost ceased to wear perfume.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 22:10

I saw a poster in Semi-Chem the other day offering 'L'Air du Temps'!

Oh, the horror! The horror!

AitchYouBerk · 26/03/2007 22:10

i LOATHE issey and all those vile oceanics. [headache]

Nikki76 · 26/03/2007 22:12

I have lots of perfume and pre DS I was rather liberal with it

In my defence though, I had a workmate with seriously cheesy feet and a fanjo that smelt like something had crawled up it and died...not that I got close enough to smell it mind you, just had misfortune to go to loo directly after her and couldn't run back out heaving as she would have been drying her hands and seen me, so in those instances was a blessing to be able to hold my cuff under my nose and escape the stench!!

Carmenere · 26/03/2007 22:13

I quite like lots of Chanel No 5 but that is the only one really and it is quite headache inducing.

Hate, hate, hate cheap air freshener and fabric conditioner.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 22:13

'Cool Water' smells like the Gulf of Mexico after yet another oil spill.

ash6605 · 26/03/2007 22:15

well guess i'm a $20 hooker then-i LOVE angel, and jean paul gaultier and like my clothes to smell of fabric conditioner.
oh and ambi pur/glade circulair-lush.
obviously you girls prefer the smell of SHIT to scented nappy bags-wierd!
and as for incense sticks-WTF?!

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 22:16

Nah, I prefer the smell of landfill choked with shitty disposable nappies.

Ahhhhhhh.

norkmaiden · 26/03/2007 22:17

Expat I thought you were a Chanel no 5 girl??

AitchYouBerk · 26/03/2007 22:17

ash, seriously, you must honk.

fortyplus · 26/03/2007 22:18

Hassled - Anais Anais is Granny perfume - I'm 46 on Sat and stopped wearing it ages ago because it's far too dated for me!

ash6605 · 26/03/2007 22:18

yeah and i love it!!!!!!!!

especially when all your hubbys tell me i smell divine-much better than their sweaty fangoed wives!

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 22:19

Yes, nork, but no perfume is ever strong on me. .

Or lasts very long.

Some people, though, do take it to extremes.

I had to invigilate this exam last week, and I could identify some of the students by their waft, their perfumes are that strong.

'Let's see, I smell Flower by Kenzo, that would be Sophie.'

'Someone smells like Paris. That would be Rachel.'

Rumpel · 26/03/2007 22:19

Essential oils make good air freshners.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 22:19

Jennifer Aniston wears Anais Anais.
