Do you wear strong perfume? Because you make my ruddy head ache and I wish you would stop. Everyone else thinks so too but they are too polite to tell you that you stink.

What, not wanting to get suffocated by someone else's smell is up its own arse now, is it?

That is what a discussion is LittleSarah - lots of different opinions.

So which one of the aforementioned perfumes do you wear then?

ScottishMummy · 27/03/2007 08:48

MoonDog GoodMorning its your layering Nutter MN aromatherapy mate here.

this morning i showered with clinique happy body wash, applied clinique happy moisturising lotion, followed by a liberal spray of u guessed it....Happy

So by your definition i am one of em weirdies and loving-it-weirdie-and-proud-but-smelling-nice-and-feeling-happy

quanglewangle · 27/03/2007 09:06

My son bought me 212 by Carolina Herrera - so am I allowed to wear it?

I would ban perfumes on public transport, though I suppose it could be useful for getting a carriage to yourself. The trouble is I would have to chop my arm off otherwise I couldn't be in the same carriage as myself.

Youth Dew smells of fly spray
No 5 is ok but too bloody strong.

Don't like lily-of-the-valley or any perfumes that smell of them. Pungent and fumey.

Also hate strong detergents and fabric conditioners. I can smell my neighbours washing from 3 gardens away.

mumto3girls · 27/03/2007 09:26

I love skin that smells of soap....dove soap is nice and clean smelling..

I also love the smell of fab cond on my bedding...lovely!!!

I like a subtle scent of perfume too....but only a light spray on clean, non smokey skin.

Guess I must be cheap and nasty....

bozza · 27/03/2007 09:28

While I am anti fabric conditioner, plug in air fresheners, scented babywipes etc I do like a nice perfume. I nearly always were one. At least it is not clashing with countless other smells on me.

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 09:29

not read all of these but is Stella McCartney ok?

I am wearing it now and I think it lovely

bozza · 27/03/2007 09:29

I only put perfume on my wrists these days though because I have trouble with excema on my neck. Another reason not to bother with fabric conditioner.

ScottishMummy · 27/03/2007 09:36

Oliveoil another stella-Fan here

multitasker · 27/03/2007 09:49

I think in an age when we are all so careful about what we eat and the environment we live in its quite ironic that some people willingly drench themselves with chemicals on a daily basis - and its not just perfume - take a look at what we apply to ourselves in the name of "beauty" for many years of our lives.

ScottishMummy · 27/03/2007 09:55

with that thought in mind boots are doing Clinique bonus time when you buy 2 or more products so more chemical goodies for me i think...

hoppybird · 27/03/2007 09:57

I can really relate to some of the views on this thread. When I was pregnant this time round, the smells which made me feel truly nauseous were perfume (including my own), aftershave, freshly laundered clothes in the tumble dryer (!) and above all fabric conditioner. My objection to certain perfumes and fabric conditioner have stayed with me.

When my dd was born, and I had visitors in hospital, I was a mean mummy and didn't let ANYONE hold her because I didn't want her lovely new baby smell to be stinked out by perfume, particularly from my MIL who wears Angel (and is known to use Giorgio, and has plug in so-called 'fresheners' in her home). I have noticed that dd also objects to over-perfumed ladies (including my MIL, LOL!) I wear Nahema, and have done for years, but only the tiniest squirt on the back of my neck.

I like the smell of 'nice' perfumes and aftershaves, but that's so hard to define - I know what I don't like, and that's clouds of Angel and even worse, Organza (sorry Angel and Organza wearers).

eemie · 27/03/2007 10:04

People who wear scent to choir rehearsals make me furious. They give me a headache, sore throat, cough and runny nose, and ruin my evening.

Worse still, they all do it for the concert as well.

We have asked to move tables in a restaurant to get away from a woman wearing Obsession. Not so much wearing it as assaulting everyone within six feet of her. Put us right off our pizza.

BarbieLovesKen · 27/03/2007 10:08

Ok ? so far on this thread I am a $20 hooker, insecure and a nutter, oh and have a BO problem that im merely trying to cover up. Many people apparantly feel physically sick when they stand near me. sniff! pack of b**ches.... sniff..

( I love angel, Jean Paul, Dolce & Gabanna and Poision, never leave house with some in my bag so I can give myself a few extra sprays throughout the day - just incase there is someone about that I dont particulary want to talk to - instant repellant........... love the smell of fabric softener on clothes...yum!! I usually put an extra cap above the recommended dosage - just for good luck ) Pack of Hippys...

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 10:11

Angel is the most repugnant scent known to man. It makes me feel physically nauseous.

The others, dunno, really. But I'd rather smell fag smoke than Angel (and for anyone who knows how I feel about fag smoke, that's saying something...). Actually, I'd rather smell dead bodies than Angel.

Carmenere · 27/03/2007 10:19

I think some balance is needed here. Air 'fresheners', fabric conditioners, scented candles ect are mildly unpleasant but bearable. They don't generally cause great upset to others.

Obsession and Poison and heavy, pungent, musky perfumes of their nature are actually offensive if you use more than a small spray.

To those of you that use heavy scents please, please go easy on them.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 27/03/2007 10:22

Carmenere, you forgot 'Youth Dew' by Estee Lauder which smells like coca cola which has been left out in the sun - sweet, sticky and cloying. Add to that the fact that it is frequently worn by those with a 40-a-day habit and you have an aroma straight from Satan.

expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 10:28

I would rather smell perfume than arse, armpit, or feet, however.

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 10:29

Not Angel, I wouldn't, EIS.

expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 10:30

I'd rather smell Angel than BO.

I've smelt BO so bad my eyes have watered and vomit has crept into my throat.

Can't say I've ever had that reaction from perfume.

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 10:31

I've had that from Angel. I really, really loathe it.

expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 10:31

I'm not really sure what Angel smells like.

But arse is pretty minging.

Carmenere · 27/03/2007 10:31

My mum wore Youth Dew for a few years in the 70's and I will forever associate it as mingled with the smell of petrol and causing me to be car-sick- bleaugh.

beckybrastraps · 27/03/2007 10:33

Apparently my perfume makes me smell like custard, or so one of my pupils told me. (He did follow it up by saying he liked custard). Vanilla tones...
