me and the dh and dd will be arriving at about miday and the wedding isn't until 3... so we were wondering what carshalton is like... the high street... has it got lots of shops? are there many eateries and if so are they baby friendly? etc etc...

Just to let you know I've passed on a message to you (sb34,Mo2 and Soupdragon) via Mumsnet, so hopefully when everyone is back from hols we can set a date.

Is there anyone else in the area who would like to meet up (don't want to exclude anyone!)?

Monnie · 04/09/2002 10:01

Jodee

I would like to meet up(although trying to get the confidence up to actually do it!!!).

I live in Wallington (Sutton).

Not sure if the ball pit at Ikea would be good for my DS (he's only 13 months), but as long as no-one minds him tagging along, I would enjoy a get together.

I will be in Wales from the 14th Sep for a week, so anytime after that should be ok.

peanut · 04/09/2002 10:32

Ooh me to im near addiscombe and am always up for a bit of socialising with my dd. im about from the 15th september !!!

SoupDragon · 04/09/2002 10:51

Monnie - my DS2 is only 18 months, too little for the actual Ikea ballpit, so he'll be tagging along too (loudly and reluctantly I'd imagine ). He's been to the Gypsy Moth one since birth though and liked the little baby bit there! Jungle Jims near Ikea is fairly similar I'm told.

Peanut - we moved from Addiscombe/Shirley Park in January!

The good thing about somewhere like Ikea is that if you turn up & decide the others all look like 3 headed monsters from Mars you can just run and pretend you're just a shopper! I have to confess that I have a head start since I already know sb34 (I don't think she's got 3 heads... never noticed any extras anyway ). Not sure I'd be brave enough otherwise!

I have only just got back from holiday but would love to meet up, if you haven't already done so. I cannot make Wednesdsays or Thursdays as I work those days, but any other day/time would be good for me.

jodee · 05/09/2002 22:05

Great to see some more names!

Monnie, I went to a Mumsnet lunch back in May and was really nervous, almost to the point of backing out, but I'm really glad I did, and I had a great time.

I was thinking this time of something more informal, including the kids, so looks like it's either the Gypsy Moth or Jungle Jims at the mo - any real preferences? Or any other suggestions?

Would people prefer a weekday or Sat?

Hi Bumblelion, I thought you had been on holiday - I hope you had a great time, you certainly deserved it.

Soupdragon, I may not be a three-headed monster, but my ds quite possibly could be!

SoupDragon · 06/09/2002 15:01

I'm certain DS2 is some sort of a monster, even if he does only have one head Hides it well behind angelic looks and a cheeky grin though.

I'd prefer mid week sometime. DS1 is in nursery Monday/Tuesday (which is no bad thing!) and I can't actually do Mondays or Fridays at all.

Monnie · 06/09/2002 17:08

Can't do Wednesdays (Homestart Training) and Mondays afternoons(collect nephew from nursery and look after him).

But should be ok any other day - weekday is pref, but can do a weekend if better.

Allowing for people (ie Soupdragon - lucky so and so!) to get back from sunning themselves, I was thinking about either of the weeks commencing Mon 30 Sept or Mon 14 October. I couldn't do the week in between as I am working all week.

Looking at the days people have mentioned, it looks like there's a slight problem in that there's not one midweek day that everyone can make - what we could do is have 2 meets midweek instead. What about Wed 2 Oct and also Fri 4 Oct - that way everyone can get to at least one if they want to?

What does everyone think?

PS, Monnie, Peanut, Dizzymummy and Bumblelion, I have also passed my email address onto you via Mumsnet, in case you want to get in touch that way.

jodee · 11/09/2002 21:33

Hi all, well I went to try out the Playbarn at the Gipsy Moth yesterday (thank you sb34 and Soupdragon for suggesting!) and ds had a great time. They have toddler sessions during school term from 9.30-11am or 1.30-3pm and costs £2.50 per child. Complimentary tea, coffee, juice and biscuits provided as well (I think only one cup of tea though!). I didn't get there until 10.30 and stayed an hour (they only ask you to leave at 11am if it gets busy).

Is everyone happy with the Playbarn as the venue then, and going to the morning session?

What about the dates suggested - Wed 2 Oct and Fri 4 Oct - do they suit, and who would go to which dates (just so I'm not there on my own!)?

I can't make Wednesday 2nd October as I work Wednesdays, but can definitely make Friday 4th October.

Let me know what time to meet and I shall be there.

How will we know each other - have we got to red carnations in our lapels?

Dizzymummy · 18/09/2002 13:47

I'd love to come (I also work Mon - Wed's) but would like to come on Fri 4th

jodee · 18/09/2002 21:55

Dizzymummy and Bumblelion - great! I've got nothing planned for either day so I will get to both.

Aiming to get there 10/10.15 ish.

Just in case people don't know the location, the address is:

The Gipsy Moth, The Colonnades, 619 Purley Way, Croydon CR0 4RJ. If you know the Purley Way, it's on the opposite side of the road to TGI Fridays.

Bumblelion, the seating area is fairly small so we should be able to find each other, but I was going to try and sit near the window, if that helps, and wear something distinctive, but I've no idea what at the moment!

sb34, see you (and Soupdragon) on the Weds, then!

Apologies for the late reply. Have just returned from my holiday to Wales.

I'll be able to make it on Friday 4th (sod Tumbletots!).

I should be easy to spot - short, black, look about 12!!!

See you then, Bumblelion, Dizzymummy and Jodee (if I don't get lost)

peanut · 19/09/2002 19:35

2 years now although have been talking about getting married since dd was born and she will be one on the 28th. So i have been sat on tenterhooks this whole year (cause he said he wanted to wait for the perfect moment) I don't know if i should be offended that it took a year to find a perfect moment

jodee · 19/09/2002 21:55

Congratulations Peanut - I hope you will have a nice rock to show off!

So:
Wed 2 Oct: Peanut, sb34, Soupdragon, me

Fri 4 Oct: Monnie, Bumblelion, Dizzymummy, me (so pleased I get to meet all of you!)

sb34, I'll go along with your suggestion of sitting on the right, by the windows, and will try and get there just before 10am.

Probably just me being dim, but when I went to the Playbarn for the first time the other week, I followed the signs alongside the GipsyMoth pub and tried the door and it was locked. This is the door to the pub itself - there is another door to the right which looks like a fire escape door, which takes you into the Playbarn. There are stairs to the right or go straight ahead if you want to use the lift.

Mo2, how are you, can you still make it?

SoupDragon · 25/09/2002 21:13

I'm back from sunning myself and if you're feeling jealous, simply imagine 8 hours in an enclosed space with an 18 month old on your lap... shudders at the memory{} Having said that, it was 32 degrees and sunny out there shudders at the temperature we arrived home to{} Anyway, I digress...

I can probably make the Wednesday but 9:30am?? You've got to be kidding!!

I'll probably also be there on the Friday since it's my regular Friday am haunt with friends from my 1st lot of antenatal classes.

Jetlagged and off to bed...

SoupDragon · 28/09/2002 01:16

Unfortunately, I'm no longer able to make either of the days next week

SB34, you're on your own I'm afraid.
