hi all!

going to a wedding this sat... church service is in Carshalton - south london...

me and the dh and dd will be arriving at about miday and the wedding isn't until 3... so we were wondering what carshalton is like... the high street... has it got lots of shops? are there many eateries and if so are they baby friendly? etc etc...

thanks in advance!!

Carshalton itself is between Sutton and Croydon, both places with tons of eateries. I actually live in Croydon, so can't help with eateries, but there is a great park with ponds with swans and ducks as well as a children's playground, so you should be able to kill time there. Someone else may manage to tell you about eateries, though I should warn you that Carshalton isn't that big, so you may not have much choice.

Hope you have a good day.

mirriamW - thanks for the reply... how far away is croyden from carshalton? how long would it take in the car?

thanks!

It wouldn't take long in the car maybe 15 minutes but as croydon is a major shopping center the traffic can be quite horrific and might not be worth the stress.

bea · 30/05/2002 08:31

oh dear any other suggestions for the surrounding area... maybe 15 - 20 mins away from carshalton, which is a good place to bide our time whilst waitin for the nuptials to take place... child friendly eateris has to be incl.

not much to ask for i know!!!

Another Croydon gal here - as peanut said, Croydon can be a nightmare on Saturdays, and if you don't know your way around driving isn't to be recommended (one way system owing to the trams). It might be better to head to Sutton beforehand - I've not been there in a while but I remember there being lots of places to eat. Have fun at the wedding!

MiriamW, you're not an ex-Woodside junior school girl perchance???

Monnie · 30/05/2002 11:12

Fantastic.

Sometimes it's kinda hard to believe that there are other people from the same area as you on a website. Don't know why that is...

I'm from Croydon, born and bred, but now live in Sutton. Used to live in Carshalton Beeches, though.

Can't remember many restaurants, etc, so I would also say head for Sutton town centre - lots of cafes, eatries. All seem to be child friendly, as I've taken DS to most of them!

Don't ask for any names off the top of my head, though. Useless at remembering that sort of important info!!

MiriamW · 30/05/2002 12:23

Jodee,

Fraid that I'm not Croydon-bred, but moved here for the transport links 12 years ago. Just about to move to Purley all being well with our house move.

jodee · 31/05/2002 08:45

Miriam, I thought it was too much of a coincidence - good luck with the house move though.

Bumblelion · 05/06/2002 16:27

I live in Carshalton. Think I might have missed the wedding you were going to so can't be of much help now.

We got my dd christened in the church by the ponds which is a lovely church but the parking is horrendous. Luckily I live about 5 minutes from the ponds so could walk.

peanut · 05/06/2002 16:35

Its don't know why but i always thought that there wasn't any one from this neck of the woods on here.

Stupid of me really.

Bumblelion · 05/06/2002 16:39

Peanut, I always thought no-one lived in my neck of the woods either, although why I thought that I had no idea.

bea · 05/06/2002 19:56

bumblelion - that's where she got marries the church next to the duck ponds... absolutely lovely setting... wished we'd gone into carshalton for lunch as it was a lovely summer day and we thought we'd best stop in sutton... had lunch at a safeways cafe... hmmm... somehow sitting by the ponds in the sunshine would have been a much better and nicer experience!

lovely place to live though! - you're very lucky!

thanks forr all the advice!!! everyone!

Just spotted this thread... I'm in Croydon too! Born in Carshalton, grew up in Worcester Park, moved to Croydon for work and now in Sanderstead for primary schools

Still inwardly giggling at the thought of Carshalton's high street...

Biting the bullet here - do any of you Croydon/Carshalton lot fancy getting together at all? Not a big Mumsnet lunch type of thing, just a coffee somewhere or meatballs in Ikea?

sb34, I'm in Addiscombe; ds is almost 2 and a half. The only reason I thought of Ikea was because of the ball pit, never used it yet so thought it was worth a try!
Where exactly are you? It would be great to meet up when you are back (and anyone else?)

Um - without giving too much away -- I'm in Redhill/Reigate area which is definitely within striking distance ....
With a one-month old I'm looking for every opportunity to fill my days outside the house, so count me in...

SoupDragon · 30/08/2002 15:45

There's Jungle Jims ball pit at the Megabowl up by Ikea once we've spent all our money there.

jodee · 30/08/2002 18:28

Hi Soupdragon and MO2!
I know someone else who always goes to Jungle Jims and has recommended it to me, so perhaps there or the Playbarn then?
Maybe we could 'talk' more indepth offline - I will all Mumsnet to send you all my email address and maybe we can arrange something when sb34 is back.

M02, how's it going with your new arrival?

SoupDragon · 30/08/2002 18:40

Just to be awkward, I'm away from the 10th - 25th Sept... just when sb34 is back I believe! Still, I'll be tanned and rested after then (yeah, right. Rested? Oh holiday with 2 under 4s?? Who am I kidding!)

janh · 31/08/2002 10:35

Hi, Mo2, how's it all going?
